Max Eberly (USA)
Frank Alvarez (USA

These are the two players who are going to represent the United States in the World 8-Ball championships.

Any idea how this came about? I don't know, no one else wanted to go??? No one cares about playing for a trophy in another country? No one plays 8-ball?

Regardless, Frank Alvarez has NO BETTER qualification to represent the United States as a pool player in any discipline than I do. Wait, I take it back, he is a "pro" player. Kevin was right, you can take any player and dress him up in a "pro" costume and the public will buy it. Ilike Frank, I like his enthusiasm for pool, but he is no more talented for it than I am.

Max Eberle - funny that they can't even spell his name right, is certainly qualified when it comes to pool ability. I wonder how he was chosen though? Was there some qualifier somewhere? Some national tournament to determine who the best 8 player in America is?

The WPA is a joke, the UPA and the BCA are also bad jokes.

Remember, these organizations are supposed to be making sure that the very best players make it to the world stage. But, in the end, it's disorganization ad good 'ole boy politics which decide.

ive never heard of either one of them or you either.they should send karen and allison.

Not everybody is a pro or wants to be a pro. I play in the BCA and the APA to have fun and play on a team. So do they suck for that purpose. I don't think so. You pretty much know what you're getting into when you expect to play about 7 games of 8 ball, one night a week, on a bar table.

I think I read somewhere that the IPT expressed a desire for the male players to wear sports jackets, while they're at the tournament venue site due to the presence of media and spectators and picture-taking opportunities.

I remember Buddy Hall saying one time that seeing a pool player in a tuxedo is like a hot dog topped with whipped cream. :D

At last year's Glass City Open, the media desired the players to wear light-colored shirts because of the lighting in the tournament room. When they wore dark-colored clothing, it was difficult to capture a good shot.

At the recent Skins Billiards Tournament, the TV table lights were so bright in the Super Star Theater that the staff requested the players to not wear white-colored shirts and preferred that they wear colored clothing.

Karen and Allison are already going. And, unless they've somehow become USA citizens, they couldn't be sent as USA representatives.

ummmm..... They are both known pros, but not "current champions" is probably a bad way to put it, but I can't think of a different way to phrase it.

Onepocketchump's post had nothing to do with BCA league pool or APA league pool.

Maybe not the APA but I believe his title says BCA sucks.

The BCA Leagues are a different entity than the BCA Trade Organization. I assure you that John wasn't talking about the BCA pool leagues.

You didn't hurt my feelings one bit. That is my whole point. No one knows how or why these two players ended up being the ONLY male representatives to the "World 8-Ball Championships".

On ability, Max defnitely deserves to be there. There are, however dozens of master-level league players in this country that would have been more fitting players to send than Frank Alvarez. Sorry Frank, if you are reading this, you know I will say the same thing to you as well.

Here is a partial list of relatively "unknown" players who would be well qualified,

Jessie Bowman
Jeff Sargeant
Julio Aquino
Scott Tollefson

And I just don't have time to think of the dozens more.

Eberle's a great 8-ball player, so I think he's a decent pick to represent the US. As a kid (under 18) he won several Junior National 8-ball titles; and in a conversation I had with him the other day he prefers 8-ball to 9-ball and thinks he'll do better on the 8-ball (IPT) tour than the 9-ball (UPA, etc.) tours.

Alvarez on the other hand, I agree with you.

Frank Alvarez continues to get invited to EVERYTHING and I just don't get it. I'm aware that he's a super nice guy, really dedicated to the sport, a great ambassador, etc.. However, he just doesn't play at that level. Maybe some day he will. Who knows? But, as of today, he doesn't.

Why? Coz he is the UPAs charge: the UPA exists to send it's favored few to events, under the guise that it is bettering men's pool. It is enviable that the have been so successful in getting others to fund their playing.

Here is the link to the official player list: Player List

Mike Massey also got the nod to represent the USA as a WPA wildcard, Ronnie O' Sullivan will be playing as will Wu.

Maybe they're the only one's willing to go to Fujairah, which looks to me to be a hellhole, hot and dusty. Not to mention that to be an American in a Arab country isn't the best of moves at this particular point in history.

Though the website is colorful and fun to navigate, there is not one mention of the date of the event, a big oversight. It would be helpful to know the date of when it occurs, IMHO.

Can I bet my 25 vbucks that noone from the UPA or WPA responds to this to answer the concerns of the fans?

Kevin Trudoe has already proven himself to be a FAR better person to lead this sport into the future based on the simple fact that when the fans asked the questions why certain people were picked and certain people were passed on he did not hide in his glass house and refuse to answer, he actually wrote an epic length FAQ on all the questions we had and put it right on the IPT website. That gets my respect, address the fans when they have concerns and justify your actions. Dont do what the WPA and UPA do and make idiotic moves and then offer NO explanations to the fans or fellow players.
