I just love how he calls them 4" pockets. Like no one would notice that they are actually 4 1/2".![]()
Can anyone else here post a video of themselves running 29 balls into one pocket of any size like this?
I could post a video running 2.9![]()
EDIT: Meant to quote Johns post "Like the story in Buddy's book about him and Grady playing one hole and Grady whining that Buddy didn't know how to play one pocket and kept taking the wrong shots and running 8 and out."
In 98 or so, me and Alex Pagulayan were walking into the Camel pro tourney here in town and ran into Grady as we were walking to the tourney arena. Grady stops us and tells Alex how he plays so good and he's heard that Alex was wanting to learn one pocket. So Grady offers to play Alex some one pocket, "you know.... Cheap, like $200-300 a game", to help him learn (Grady was thinking free money).... I tell Grady that we were just leaving and we would meet him at the poolroom... LOL.
Long story short, Alex wins 4 games at $300/game in less than 20 minutes.... IIRC, 3 of the games Alex ran 8 and out. One game Grady broke bad and left a tough back cut that Alex drilled, went to the rail and slammed the pack and ran out and the other two Alex found a dead one in the stack, fired, and ran out. Grady was LIVID!!! "This is no way to learn the game!!!" Alex was just like "You leave me a shot and I run out???" and something about don't be mad at me, you left me something to shoot at....

That's right, One Pocket is more exciting when played like that....unfortunately many players want to take no chances and bore you out of your money. I'd say about 50% of all shots playing one pocket (when not running out) are pretty simple to execute and even most intermediate players could accomplish the task.....not so in "2 Shot" 9 Ball.
Many of the great "old time" one pocket players shot as many ball away from their pocket and towards their pocket. Then they'd run 4 or 5 balls and freeze you to the stack.....the hardest part of playing that game is staying awake.![]()
I'll agree to the bolded. It's one of the reasons one pocket is one of the easiest game to hide your true speed. The hard part is knowing what shot to shoot. Sometimes it's obvious, and sometimes it's not so obvious.
Pretty much all of the top rotation players these days have a very strong aggressive game. A threat to run 8 and out anytime you leave them an opening. But I'd say only a handful of them are actually great one pocket players. Players that can be a threat, but also move extremely well. Those are the type of players that get the cash.
Sir, with all due respect, you added nothing, zero, zilch, nada, to this debate, other than to show you know absolutely nothing about pool !...Maybe you are on the wrong forum ???
My apologies. I was trying to address CJ's comments when John came flying in out of the blue (again) to take some shots at me and I got sucked in.

OK folks...looks like CJ can't get a match with Bartram, so how about CJ playing Dennis Hatch the same game?
Dennis has been around a long time and probably has played a few games of two-shot push 9-ball.
Anybody think he has a greater or lesser chance of beating CJ than Bartram?
I don't know how CJ is playing these days, but I got confidence he can rise to the occasion if he puts his mind to it and puts in the practice time.
Dennis and I have played on many occasions and like I said "anyone can come to Ft. Worth and play for $20 to $100 a game....I like to play and will probably start out loser, but over time they will know why "I'm the one their backers warned them about".![]()
Dennis, in my opinion, (and JA's) is one of the best money players on the planet (Rodney Morris is too)....he just doesn't play as much as many of the others because he has another job most of the time.....Shane's even the underdog playing 'Two Shot Shoot Out' 9 Ball against Dennis. imho
Its real tough to explain the beauty of two foul. The one thing that was cool about it,is you was'nt always playing the table. You could take advantage of your opponents weaker shots, and roll out to them.
You just took the words out of my mouth...I was debating myself whether to propose Dennis Hatch or Rodney Morris.
I think either of them have an equal or better chance playing today's "Top Guns" if they are playing two-shot push out.
They both play a ball better than Chris I would guess. I'm sure Chris is a very good player, but there's something about playing Rodney or Dennis that's different....I can't put my finger on it, but I don't feel the same thing from many other players.
I've played Rodney for a lot of money before and was extremely fortunate to get out with the "W" (I ran 17 racks in 3 or four innings on tough gold crowns)......I know who to respect in my "area of expertise" and Rodney, Dennis and Johnny all have my respect.
Your sure Chris is a very good player
Not sure why but that's a funny line
