Public Apology

Good to have you back, Grady. Hope to hear more of your great stories soon. Sounds like you have some great events lined up that I'll have to come down for.

Thanks.

Grady appreciates all the kind, positive comments but there seems to be a misunderstanding. Nowhere does he mention that he will be a regular poster. He's a busy man with a business to run.

Due to his posting of an apology, I sent Grady a PM asking him if I could respond to him on here. I have not heard back from him as yet.

Like you all, I am glad to see Grady come back on here. His knowledge is indeed quite valuable, and his pool stories are the best. I hope that he can continue on here in the same vein, and not get too upset if someone disagrees with him, or questions him. If he is sincere, then that is a good thing, more for him than for us.

It will never be a level playing surface on any forum. There is always the possibility of getting a bad roll, or a bad response or two. When he is tested once or twice, we will see how sincere he is.

Grady - no apology needed, I think. So you went-off a few times - everyone has on here, that's for sure. I love reading your posts and insight on many subjects... starting with women (the toughest action of all). hahahahaha

Seriously though... the sooner you realize everyone on here knows everything, the better off you'll be :)

I think everyone is hoping

It isn't so much an assumption, more most of us hoping he can find time to post here some. Hopefully knowing how much he is respected and missed will encourage him to find a little time now and then. :) :)

What the hell?

What happened? Did you run across a liberal who made you feel guilty about being attracted to women or the fact that you enjoy gambling and cursing? F those people. I'm the guy that put a styrofoam cup that you drank out of up on the wall at Shoreline billiards in Mtn. View, CA. I wrote on the cup with a felt tip pen "Grady Mathews drank from this cup" and you laughed and said that that was a first and you would always remember this incident. Many famous athletes and celebrities have come into Shoreline and their cups go straight in the trash. F em. You're one of the greats. bumpypickle

Welcome back Grady!

From this point forward, I'm going to try my hardest to do better.

Thank you.

Good man Charlie Brown! It's good to see you post again and welcome back! Don't change too much we need more players like you, someone that will humble himself on occasion and make peace with the players. Some of the old timers like you are quite a character, Rusty Jones who I believe you know from San Francisco CA was quite a character as well, I loved to listen to his pool stories
as well.

Grady, did you know Rusty Jones, and how did you play him one pocket? Could you give him 2 balls. Did you ever play Oakland Blackie, he spotted Rusty a couple of balls in one pocket, that is my uncle and it took a great player coming through Bay Area to beat him? In fact, he beat Minnisota Fats for money. I have heard that Fats played pretty good from some but I have also heard that he didn't play that well. Grady could you beat Fats and did you ever play him for money?

LOL... talking with Grady is like waiting to hear from Harry Houdini from 'the other side'.

Grady had something to say and he said it. If he EVER has something else to say, he will surely stop by and say it.

Waiting to carry on a lengthy convesation online with Grady reading and responding is FRAUGHT WITH PERIL...... :)

I always felt Grady expected more respect than he got from the pool world in general. Whether that expectation was justified or not, I'll let others judge. That said however, I always thought because of that attitude there was a small cadre of people here who waited like hyenas to pounce on everything he said.
I do hope he comes back as an active poster, and I further hope people will accept him for what he is and what he isn't and glean the valuable experience and knowledge he has to offer from his posts.
IMO.

This thread really surprises me. I haven't followed this forum long enough to know what happened in the past, but I do know that it is easy to misinterpret printed words and folks can be misunderstood easily here.. And I really don't understand the apology from Grady, there really is no need to apologize for being yourself. I am one that welcomes Grady and hope to learn from him if he desires to post here.

Don't change a hair.

Just ignore those who find you offensive (for reasons real or imagined) since they don't have the good sense to ignore you. The only people you upset are people who like to be upset:D :D :D

where's my cup?

Bucktooth and many other players post on AZ, they may use alias names but they are active on AZ Billiards. How many times has Grady posted on AZ, less than 10 times or more than 10? Anyone know?

Will we not see Grady back?

Grady's post count stands at 549 at the moment for this handle. I don't know if he has ever used other handles in the past but that post count indicates that he loves talking about pool to pool players just like most of us here.

My bet is that he will be back as a semi-regular poster if he doesn't become embroiled in controversy every time he posts. He doesn't need that aggravation and some people seem to take special pleasure in sticking pins in the greats and the legends that come on here. No question that Grady in his time was a great, he is still a respectable player and definitely a legend.

I wish you all the best!

Grady, from the posts I have read in this thread, I guess I am practically alone in the view that this apology is appropriate. You have, at times, attacked both the character and integrity of people, events, and organizations within pool in a tasteless, malicious and occasionally profane way. That you recognize this and regret it impresses me, and that you have offered this apology is admirable.

Grady, your strong communication skills along with your vast experience and excellence as a a) competitor, b) promoter, c) event organizer, d) poolroom proprietor, and e) road player, give you the potential to be among the most valued posters on the AZB forum. Given your commitment to communicating in a manner that is more tactful, I think we are all in for a treat.

Welcome back to the AZB forum and wishing you everything good.
Grady,

I, too, appreciate your insight and the fact that you share your knowledge and experiences. I also like you very much as a person. I just hope that you can find it in yourself to be a little more tolerant and understanding of other people's opinions that differ from yours so we can enjoy your posts and learn from your experiences.

Mike

O.B., I played in that tournament and it was one of the best if not the best tournament I have ever played in. Naples was BEAUTIFUL. The tournament was well run. I even came in the money. I would play in another if you and Grady got it rolling.

Thank you (and the Seminole Indian Tribe) for everything you all do for pool.

The Seminole Tribe ROCKS!
