What does a purpleheart shaft do to the hit of a cue other than add weight and move the balance forward?

It seems like people usually have break cues or masse cues made with purpleheart.

They give a very stiff break. I use one and would never use anything else.

I had one and i liked it well enough. it's extremely stiff and seemed to harden the hit up a lot. great wood for a break shaft imo. i'm just too tuned into my gilbert.

me being me i'm sure i'll break down and buy another down the road.

i recommend them if you're looking to try something new. of course there's nothing in the world wrong with just picking up a j&j

wood pin, no ferrule ph shaft

photos of a player i made using purple heart. its 57 inches, moori, no ferrule,
wood pin. veneers on one side only, ph shaft, ph handle, curly forearm and buttcap.
i love the stiffness, and density of ph.

PurpleHeart is one of the hardest and most dense woods. It pretty difficult to work with compared to some softer wood, you'll go through a lot more saw blades cutting purple heart!

Since it is so hard & dense it reflects much of the energy from a break to the ball instead of being absorbed/dissapated by the shaft.

It gives a stiffer flatter feeling hit and produces less cue ball action.

i thought the shaft might be a little too heavy to play with. how do you manage?

It's only 4.5oz and I kinda like a stick on the heavy side. The total weight is 19.75oz and that is without adding or subtracting any weight. Perfect for me!
