who has won the qualifiers for the World Pool Championship

Qualifiers are held around the world by the respective recognized Pool Federations. This is how some of the players are selected for the Championships. In addition, the last 5 year Champs and Runner-ups get selected.

After all this is done with, they hold the last qualifiers the week before the World Championships for anyone who has not made the cut at the previous ones; therefore, this weekend there will be several players arriving in Taipei (Kaoshiung) to try to make it to the WPC.

Darn, that's one big field for just the qualifier compared to last year. 39 and still counting. I see about 5 pretty tough players: Max Eberle, Shane VB, Antonio Gabica, Antonio Lining and Ramil Gallego. Some more pinoys surely will be coming in, plus I don't see a single Taiwanese on that list.

And The One, your name is not yet on it. :)

Quals started today, Van B was struggling in his first and almost lost but he did well to come back from 5:2 down to win 7:5. I got a bye in my first and then won my second 7:6 from 6:4 down to a taiwanese player. I then sadly lost my next 7:4 (to another taiwanese player), I got a few bad rolls but didn't play well enough to win. Shame because that was for the points and cash so have to start all over again tomorrow. My friend John wimms lost his first match as did Eberle.

Van B apparently beat corteza from the philipines in his next match adn then played well to beat my mate chenman from the UK. After that I left but its a retty strong comp. The hardest thing about it is that there's a heap of Asians that can play pretty good who nobody knows. About 50ish runners total so its going to be a tough week. I will try and find out who did well later.

Me too... I have never doubted Lining capabilities.. hope he does well in WPC 2005

I also would like to see Antonio "Gaga" Gabica earning a slot in WPC 2005...

I would be very surprised if every Philipino in the qualifiers does not get a spot. Looking at their list of people they sent to qualify it is a pretty top pro level well known sort of bunch.

There's three more Filipino trying their luck in the qualifiers: Bebeng Gallego, Vanvan Corteza and Gaga Gabica. I think Gallego and Gabica will go through eventually but I really doubt Corteza's form as of late. He's not in top form lately.

I heard that something came up and Gabica may not be participating in the Phil Open and WPC...

Another update from the tough qualifiers!

Shane Van B and Corteza lost first round I think today. Eberle was still in last 8 when I left with almost all Taiwanes locals! I won my first match against a taiwanese 7:6 (coming back from 6:4 down for the second time in two days). I played one of the best players in Thailand next and went 6:2 down! Somehow after a few controversal incidents with the tournament ref I pulled it back and won 7:6!! Sadly I lost my next match to another bloody local lol! So missed out on a place in the last 8 twice in a row. The good news is Gabica isn't actually here and in theory it should be getting easier?!@? Most get a bye first rounf and if you do it means 5 wins to the WPC - I'm going to do it tomorrow ;-)

But the best news is I managed to get a hair cut today even though nobody here speaks a word of English - it was almost exactly what I was hoping for too :o

Hey Craig ! Just keep shooting 'em straight ! Those locals are super-tough but not too tough for you  Let us know what happens there, ok ?

Keeping my thumbs up for TheOne !

Btw, I've had a haircut as well using sign language to describe what I want, that was in Czech Republic. A good way to seek excitement from a simple thing such as a haircut ;) Mine turned out ok as well, lol !

Good Luck

Good luck Craig. Next time you see Max, tell him Steve and everyone Hard Times says good luck. Morro is leaving in a few days to go over there.

Steve
