Ronnie used real inlays. One thing though is that he used a lot of layers when applying his finish, fantastic finish with a lot of work, between 15-20 layers Is a good guess (he didn´t have the setup that is common among other CM´s, I visited him for 2 weeks so I saw everything) that actually adds a bit of weight to the cue, he even used it to get the exact balance point desired - he is a perfectionist.
With that said I think it would be wise to measure everything up before refinishing so the result can match the original, if it´s important to you of course.
Great cues and fantastic players, still have some left if anyone is interested.
