I think you have answered your own question in an indirect way. Just shoot with the shaft you feel better about.

Maniac

If you shoot better with the McD then shoot with the McD.

Am I missing something?

Edit:

Of course you could always pound away with the other shaft.....

I agree with Maniac and the Doc. Use what feels right to you.

Would you wear uncomfortable shoes hoping that one day they would stretch out and feel good?

waisting your time

I like solid maple.

The Ld laminated shafts I have used in my opinion were sub standard compaired to solid maple.

I am not fond of the g core shafts either....

If you're a level three that tells me you probably have a lot more flaws in your game than the shaft.

New shafts and cues do take some time to get used to. Really you should be sticking with one shaft instead of switching between two all of the time. Consistency is something every athlete strives for, and unless you're Earl The Pearl Strickland, getting better is going to be tough when you constantly change equipment.

It might just be that you don't like the feel of the shaft..if you don't like it store it away for a rainy day or sell it and try another LD shaft.

shafts

I have tried the G-Core, 314-2 and Black Dot. The Black Dot was my favorite of the low deflection shafts I tried. For the last 2 weeks I have been using a Pat Diveney Lakesalvage shaft on his Custom Ebony Hustler. It worked great for me from the beginning and he is making me another one and also putting a Lakesalvage shaft on the Ebony jump break cue he is making me. Any way, I believe my shaft search is over. The shaft choice is really an individual choice.

Pick a cue

I say just pick a cue cuz at a three level, the cue don't matter anyway,...I mean that seriously...it barely matters to a high level player.

It's about comfort and what you are used to. You can't get used to anything while you are waffling.

Use what you like and stick to it.

Is the OB shaft 3/8x10 threads? I've got a G-Core shaft, (very light useage, didn't like it) if you want to make a deal for the OB shaft.

Both are good shafts, so don't worry about which you think is better or cost more. Play with the shaft that you shoot better with. Cue feel, like and dislike are very subjective things. Don't let anyone tell you that one is. Ether than the other. If you play better with one shaft, then that is the shaft for you.

It may be different if they weren't both of shafts, and you were dealing with an adjustment period, but these are shafts with the same basic principles but slight differences. Just use the one you play better with.

How long did you spend with the OB?
It took me maybe 2 months before I stopped missing balls I normally wouldn't.

It's absolutely true you should use the shaft that feels good. But "what feels good" is almost always the one you've used the most. Before the mcdermott, what were you using? Just house cues? If so, then you've spent more time with high deflection cues (house cues + g-core) vs low deflection (ob shaft).

---

If you haven't given the OB at least a solid month or two, you should. MANY times I have wished that early in my pool career (back when I was a 3), someone made me learn on the low deflection shaft.

Right now, the kind of shots it helps the most are shots you may not even know or try. But down the road when you start using these shots, you'll find that LD shaft is arguably more "beginner friendly". The cue ball will go more or less where you're pointing, instead of deflecting several inches off to the side of that line. You have a choice... you can spend most of your pool life sending the cue ball where your eyes tell it it should be going... or you can keep practicing with higher deflection shafts until you've learned to ignore what your eyes are telling you and aim several inches off the actual line you want.
