Hello Mike,
I hope your headaches with the forum issues are getting better...
Several questions arise with all these ups and downs of the forum...
Is there anything the AZ community can do to help you?
  • What are the issues? Software? Bandwidth? Storage? Money?
  • Software... We are using vBulletin Version 3.5.3 and the current version is 3.81 and the message is we are upgrading
  • Storage... Do you need more storage space for all the data being added on a daily basis to the forum?
  • Bandwidth not good? Is the server farm where you have the dedicated boxes not delivering quality bandwidth?
  • Is AZ being down because is being attacked by hackers?
  • Why don't you have a way to tell on the main page of AZ what is going on?
  • Also, a lot of AZ'ers like myself are tech geeks and I am sure if you needed a ton of help would come up in a split second.
  • Is it a money issue? When I was trying to access the forum yesterday I saw a not on the website that there was a serious billing issue... Do you need $$$$$$$$? I mean we all do.......

We all love the forum and I am sure we all would love some answers if all possible :)

The upgrade was a move from one hosting company to another. The old hosting was less than prompt at communicating with me when I had forum issues. (The issues we had about a month ago when we were down the better part of the day) That being said, we will try to upgrade to the newest version of the forums very soon.

I think we are good with storage space and bandwidth at the new host. At least I hope so.

It is not a money issue. The old host saw what was happening towards the end of the move and posted that message. Needless to say, I was not amused.

We are all moved over to the new host. I am trying to keep an eye on any problems that are reported and trying to get those to the new host to look into immediately.

How to help

Mike,

You make mention of addressing issues users are reporting. How can we help?

Simply list our issues on a thread? Here?

What I have noticed so far this morning:

1) inconsistent - slow, then moves ok, then "this link appears broken"
2) Avatars: many not showing, instead get the "red x" box and "KoolKat9Lives avatar" text
3) I saw no reply or forward "buttons" on my PM. Next PM, it was there.

Good luck, may the force be with you.

Matt

Confirmed that the forums are running very slowly (slow to load).

The performance problem is probably more urgent than the following suggestion, but I'd say that upgrading to vBulletin 3.8.1 should help performance in general as there have been many improvements since 3.5.4 (not just features, but performance / optimization as well). I realize this site has a number of mods on it (e.g., vBookie) which might make a smooth upgrade difficult, but it is probably a worthwhile project.

I would like to reccomend Hostgator - they have been THE BEST host in all my years of doing websites. Absolutely fantastic and ALWAYS available 24/7

Truly an outstanding company.

I can't add pics to my posts.

Thats one of the strings that were attached to the AZB bailout.

No pictures for you!! 2 YEARS!!!:D :D :D

It is still slow.

Yep, very slow here too. It's a lot of latency even just pinging the site. I think a big part of the problem is that your new colo is in the UK. It's hard to get reliable bandwidth cheap, but even harder overseas.

SLOWWWWWW, It took me 25 seconds to open this page with high speed internet access. WOW it is like the upgrades have had a downgrade effect! NO offense Mike I am sure you are aware and working it out!

Yep, Mike did is good homework as always and even our forum is running the latest version 3.8.1. now. That might have been an additional reason for the delay in having the forum back up.

Working good

I think the last adjustment did it seeme to be back up to speed now. :woot:
Good job Mike. Thanks for all you do:clapping:

Hello.

My Name is Tim and I work with for the new ISP. We've been making changes over the last 48 hours and I think we've finally made some improvement with the speed.

We'll be updating the skin next and then hopefully we'll be fixing some of these upload issues.

Thanks

Tim

I noticed that the drop down menu to give me moderator powers is gone now :)
