Quinten Hann to win Reno

I saw the thread about the best all round player and no one mentioned Quinten Hann when I believe on paper he is the best all round player bar none, and has been for the last decade although people probably don’t know this cause he does not play in many tourmanents. When you talk about who is the best on an American table and a snooker table and a British/Australian pool table and who has accomplished as much at different games as him or can do what he does swapping cues and games certainly no other top snooker or pool player can come close Osullivan and reyes included And he has only played part time for the last 7-8 years I spoke to him after the north American open and he has said that he is practising again and enjoying playing for the first time since he was a teenager he enjoys playing in America he thinks that this is his perfect game, he thought he could have won in Vegas except for a few weaknesses in his game, which he said wont take to long to fix and that he had to see to learn from the top boys. He also said that although the very top players are good he sees the standard as being low and believes he is favourite to win Reno

Just some info people might not know he went to Las Vegas and had only played on a american pool table a few times plus he quit playing 18 months ago he used a snooker cue the first day and then bought a z shaft and a butt off another player and borrowed someone elses break cue, he still made the round of 7th to 18th

he was
World under21 snooker champion
Ranked 14 in snooker for a few seasons and always in the top 20 while not playing in many tournaments
World 8 ball champion English and Australian version he only played a few times
Won the multi cuesport event twice when it was held American 8/9 ball plus snooker/billiards beat steve davis in one final and Oliver Ortmann in the other there were other emerican and asian players in this

Iv known him for years and he never practises and always says he hates playing and only played in the tournaments thay paid him to turn up too. Well since the north American open all he says now is how good the tournament was, how much he likes this game and how much fun he had their with the players compared to when he played snooker in England and when he is not working he is playing every day now, and even talking of moving overseas next year to play all the ipt tournaments. he is not playing the one in London this year though.
He has always been a wasted talent but i think this is his turning point in his life so watch out i always thought he was the most talented player alive cause iv seen how he has prepared himself for tournaments the last 10 years it was a disgrace which iv told him lots of times but it seems now he is changing his old habits his odds last time were 150-1 i think he is a great bet this time round im having a few dollars on him

I think stating that the standard of play in Vegas was "low" and that he is the favorite to win in Reno may perhaps be a sign of overconfidence on Quinten's part. He is certainly capable of winning the event...don't get me wrong, but to consider him the outright favorite would be a little ludacris IMO.

maybe but he came close the first comp and due to his circumstances, changing cues lack of time on american tables you have to assume he will be better this time round maybe 5%. that would put him up there with a handful of favourites he also beat manola and hoeman sorry about spelling. and he has won world titles and played on telly probably a hundred times its just my opinion that he could eventually dominant this tour one day

I havent seen any other firm cover pool since the WPC. Who might do you think? I think SJ will cover the event and put up odds after the week-end.

All the super long run on sentences made my teensy weensy brain hurt.. So I quit reading it about half way through.

I had a run in with Quinten Hann about three or four years ago at a midnight tournament in a dive bar in Asia. He saw that I had a nice custom cue so he started woofin at me about playing $2K sets. I had finished ahead of him in the tournament, and I won a ring game he was in, but I could see he had the stroke of a world class player, even though he was playing with a junk house cue. He was calling himself "Mr. Q."

The main reason I declined was because he was the most unlikeable and self destructive person I've ever met (strong words from someone who hangs around pool players in pool halls.)

He was both drunk and stoned, and he was a fight waiting to happen. I don't know if he is bisexual, but he made sexual advances towards two of my male friends, both times resulting in altercations. He ended up having sex with a girl in the restroom of the pool hall.

When I left, he was stoned into oblivion. I'm surprised he's still alive.

I was also surprised to see that he got an IPT Card (I understand he's banned from international snooker.)

I was actually rooting for him in Vegas (this is one of my most colorful and true road stories.)

I understand why he isn't going to London (English cue sport fans hate him.)

I do wish him the best of luck, and hope he straightens out his life and his game. He is capable of beating anyone.

Next time I see him I'll ask him if he remembers that night?

quinton is most impressive and yes in the top 15 greatest players alive, true, however, if your gonna tell me that the finals hoemann vs. manalo was a little low standard, then well i dunno what to say, and keep it polite, it so turns out, that was the finest 8-ball in the history of the game!, quinton will have his work cut out, to win reno, can he,~~yes, will he~~~~~~~~who really knows,p.s. efren reyes, will, errrr i mean can.

not a nice story there i do know he is not bisexual and i doubt he would be playing in a midnight comp in asia either but he does have a reputation for being a bad drunk maybe you should ask him when you see him rather than questioning his sexuality like that here

i heard he was banned for a rape or sexual molestation. I heard it from some european pros.

Seems quinton's biggest opponent is and has always been himself. Just becausen tuesday a player decides to dedicate himself, it doesn't mean he will follow through on friday.......

I think he was so stoned on "X" that he was willing to shag anyone. I assumed he probably wasn't into men, but he was crossing the boundaries of what is appropriate contact.

I don't think he showed up for the tourney, I think he was looking for action. A Canadian brought him in from another bar where he was gambling.

Again, I wish him the best of luck. I do admire his talent.

HAHAHA Best all around player, LMAO. Shouldn't he have to win a major event before he gets this title??? Thats ridiculous

Quinten can play, no doubt about that. I first saw him at the WPC in Cardiff in 1999 and 2000. He had a big game and made many easy run outs. I wondered why he wasn't playing much pool, but he was into Snooker at the time. You could see he had talent, and I told him that if he worked at it, he could be a top player. But he was a bit opinionated even then, demeaning Earl and his game. Of course, Earl was the whipping boy in the media, for his outbursts against British fans, so he was an easy target.

To now state that he is the favorite in Reno is a bit of a stretch, even for Quinten. If he practices, he may go far, but to win I give him little, if any chance. The top players today are way to dedicated and hard working, for any casual/indifferent player to have a chance against them. If he makes the fourth round, it will be an amazing accomplishment. For Quinten Hann to have a real chance in a field like the IPT, he must totally rededicate himself to a work ethic, that he has never ascribed to in the past.

It wouldn't surprise me if Quinten won Reno. I wouldn't have been surprised if he had won in Las Vegas. He was break and running as good as anyone after the 2nd round, but he just ran out of steam towards the end, perhaps due to a lack of playing. But he has the perfect skill sets for this game, just needing to brush up on few areas and to get more familiar with the tables.

His work ethic has always been a struggle, but he is the most naturally talented player I've ever seen.

And despite his continual controversial statements and actions, he's actually a very personable guy.

Although there were unproven rape allegations made against him they were not the reasons given by the authorities for his ban.He is currently serving an 8 year ban for accepting cash to fix the result of certain of his snooker matches. He was recorded on video film by an undercover reporter agreeing to fix the results and accepting the cash, which was part of the evidence used during an inquiry to establish his guilt or innocence.A cynic might say that the other posters in this forum who were looking for where to place their bets for Reno might therefore be well advised to find out who Quinten is putting his money on in his group and to follow that lead:p

Of course none of the above necessarily makes him either unpersonable or lacking the talent to win in Reno.If his match fixing tendencies are 'reformed' (funny coincidence that concerning the screen name of his fan in this forum;) ) then the best of luck to him.

This is not correct, he was banned because he was accused of accepting a bribe to dump a match and never bothered flying back to England for his hearing so was found guilty. He has been accused several times of Rape, never found guilty but this was not why he was banned from Snooker.

He does have a case for one of the best all round players, not many players have done as well in as many disciplines, world 8 ball title and top 16 snooker player not to mention his world junior title certainly seperates him from many. Not to mention playing in the WPC in Cardif, and his reasonable IPT result.

From what I have heard the standard wasn't super strong, and I think what most people mean by this is the whole field/the first few rounds. Of course I'm sure there was 50 players atleast playing lights out!

He might not be the only one.......... seeing as there is still apparently no contracted venue for the London event:)

I don't see how you can say he won a World 8-ball tourny, when the game is only played in the UK. So he has won a tourny against kids, and a UK 8-ball title, and was top 16 in snooker. I don't see where this gets him anywhere close to best overall player, he wouldn't even be on my short list.

heres what i think

he looks like a hell of a player.from what ive seen he has quite an attitude of im better than you.now i cant play him on anything but a pool table but if he wants to play 8ball,9ball,10ball,rotation,onehole,14.1,banks,then he can bet as high as he wants with me.as a matter of a fact that goes for the rest of the uk guys.people talk about how great they play, but theres more than just 8ball and 9ball out there.again im not disrespecting them im just saying ill play an all around on a pool table with anybody from the uk.
