Generally, I would suggest alcohol in situations you describe.
WTF man..... I quit drinking about 6 weeks ago (to help with my weight loss efforts) and since then my pool game has gone to shit. Zero control, missing shots, second guessing, frustrated. If something doesn’t change it might be time to hang it up....
Also add in the fact that I starting working out and my entire body seems whacked.
You talk about it like you had an alcohol problem. If that's the case, you are doing the right thing. But having a couple of drinks once a week can do more good then harm. Moderation folks.
I just started drinking after reading this thread.
It's not the booze , or lack thereof. It's the working out/exercise that's messing with you. Muscle memory specifically. Your brain says do this...but your body is stronger ,(weaker right after a workout), then before. There will be improvement in a few more weeks. Hang in there. Matt D.
I quit drinking several years ago due to it raises my blood pressure too much. Every player that knew me before I quit drinking swears I played better then than now.....
Alcohol does not really make me play better. What it does it takes away all the negativity going on in my head . I guess what a friend said one time is an apt description. I am fearless on a table when I drink lol.
You are doing things to you body it's not used to in the way of working out and not drinking. It will take some time would be my vote. When I stopped drinking a good while back, it took some time.
The thought that enters my mind is not to over think things. When I used to drink a lot, I didn't think about much when half bombed. I would get up there and fire em in without a thought. Even now days if I over think things too much, I screw myself. When I relax and have fun, and realize I won't make every ball I shoot at, and will make some mistakes, I actually play a lot better by not putting undue pressure on myself.
Hope you get a few rolls going your way soon.
I was talking to someone at work today...been a loooong time since I had a hangover.
Fukc that! Not worth it.
Is that what kids do to you?
Exactly, i have been told my game is not the same now... LOL. I just refuse to give it at this point in time. If drinking lead to better pool the pro's would be doing it during their matches. I don't think Shane and the rest of the guys drink during events to quiet their minds during play. I need to find a way to do that without the booze.
Matt,
You might be on to something. I have already seen changes in my upper body strength. I'm also starting to see that lifting on pool days is hard on my game, for now. I'm starting to feel great and have no plans on giving up the gym. I hope the body adjust itself soon and my game comes back.
I think Ronnie Allen would sip a little now and then too!McCready certainly drinks while playing. In his best playing times and now.
