Maybe some people have never been in an actual poolroom before that day. Not everyone has instant knowledge by just looking at a pool room.
I've been playing for about 3 years now. When I can I try to help others who have less knowledge. Believe me I still have plenty to learn. I'm not shy and if I can't seem to accompolish a particluar shot I go and ask some of the better players for their input. Other times I'll be playing or practicing and they notice something I'm doing wrong they will offer some advice, much appreciated by me.
Maybe I'm lucky b/c I've never heard anyone say something smart or ridicule me just b/c I didn't know what to do in a particular situation. Afterwards I hope and expect someone to correct whatever error I had made.
blah blah said:I played a bar league last year and tried to bring my teammates into the world of poolrooms, 9ft table, 9ball and tournaments on our non- league nights. One night I pointed out one of the best players in Sac to a teammate and told her to keep an eye on him because he was really good.
On the way home she asked how good that guy was, and I said pretty sporty. She asked if he could beat the local bar owner. I chuckled a little and said I thought I'd have my money on the shortstop- but I left it at that.
Three weeks later on league night some dude I don't even know walks up to me and says, 'So, you think Shortstop can beat Bar Owner, huh?' I kind of looked at him and finally said, 'well, if we're betting money, I do think I have to go with Shortstop.'
I got a total lecture on how good Bar Owner was, and did I know that before he bought "hokey little bar", he used to rake in a $100,000 a month just gambling on pool alone? That he gambles so good he could be making millions on pool right now, especially if he played on his own table and didn't drink so much. I mean, did I even know how good Bar Owner was, and who the hell was this shortstop anyways?
I just stared at him and carefully said, "Wow. I did not know that."
