Race to 350 Straight Pool - Live & Free Now - Morris vs Frost

Bar music is sooo distracting...probably even more so for players with $$ on the libe. Not expecting silence; it is a bar. But it's soooo loud.

Morris over Frost 350-185.

Rodney had four pretty good runs -- 57, 51, 40, and 39 while Scott had a 49 and a 30. Rodney's super ball pocketing showed up quite a few times.

Some stats, with information given first for Morris and then for Frost (separated by a comma):

Rodney Morris defeated Scott Frost 350-185
High Run: 57, 49
Total Innings: 31, 31
Points per Inning: 11.3, 6.0
Attempted Scoring Innings: 21, 19

Thanks again goes to On The Rail TV. Lenny you have a way with these events and I hope these matches at Bull Shooters are a success. Thanks also to the Rodney and Scott.

I've almost never heard of either of these guys playing 14.1 until today

At the close of the match tonight, I think I heard Frost telling someone he hadn't played any of the 3 games in the Bull Pen event in the past 10 years. Whether he was exaggerating, I don't know.

Morris, however, has played some 14.1. Two instances:
• 2011 -- 5th-8th in the World 14.1 event, going undefeated in the round-robin portion and then winning 2 matches in the single-elimination portion;
• 2015 -- 9th-12th in the American 14.1 Championship.
And on the stream tonight, I think it may have been dmgwalsh who commented that Rodney has entered one or more of the recent straight-pool challenge events.

I was at the American 14.1 and I heard Johnny Archer say that Rodney's high run was 108.

That proves he hasn't played straight pool many times. A player of his caliber would be a 250+ runner if he played it regularly.

While the highest runs in this match aren't very impressive for players of their
caliber, an 11.3 ppi is right up there with all but a very select few elite players.

Anything over 10 is strong with a capital S. Only guys like Thorsten, Darren, John
can score significantly higher over long periods.

Interesting. May I ask where did you get those numbers, not saying they are incorrect, just curious.

A great way to look at

For this Morris/Frost match, the numbers are in post # 7 of this thread.

For comparison, points per inning and points per attempted scoring inning can be found for many pro matches in the following threads:

Hard to compare it to the days of yesteryear, when standard pockets for televised were 5"+.

The points per attemped scoring inning is a much more realistic average, since safety battles can vary widely in a match.

AtLarge, great stats but I scored the match with detailed notes and the inning total was not 31 but 40 + or - 2. Rodney had runs of 40,39,59. Scott 49 and 30.

Unless I really slept a lot during the match, I believe your numbers are incorrect.

Rodney's top runs were 57, 51, 40, 39. I agree with your 49 and 30 for Scott.

As to the number of innings, I'll just list all 31 for Rodney, with his end-of-inning game score in brackets (M = missed shot, F = foul, S = safety):

1. 5, M [5]
2. M
3. 14, M [19]
4. 40, M [59]
5. S
6. M
7. 18, M [77]
8. 16, S [93]
9. S
10. S (I initially thought this was an intentional foul. But Scott's body was blocking the shot and it may well have been a good safe.)
11. S
12. F (I initially thought this was a successful safe. But Scott spoke after the shot saying Rodney had fouled. I'm not sure whether Scott was referring to this shot or Rodney's inning #10) [92]
13. 15, S [107]
14. S
15. 20, M [127]
16. 18, S [145]
17. S or a miss (he hung the 14-ball); I called it a safe.
18. 12, M [157]
19. 12, M [169]
20. M

31. 6 out (ran 4 and was conceded last 2) [350]

thebark -- the match has now been posted by Lenny. If you do view it again and find that my scoring is significantly in error, please let me know. I may then give up this hobby.

[P.S. Yes, Morris' high run was announced on stream, and posted on the video, as 59. I think if you review the video you'll find it was 57, going from 287 to 344.]
