Racist Cue Case

Someone call Robert Langdon.

You really want the opinion of somebody that drives a Saab? Come on now. At least it's not an Audi, due to the nature of this thread.

Kill Nazis.. those that think this case is that of a Nazi(or "close enough") should just be smacked upside the head.

I beg to differ. It is the perception of the audience that really matters

Actually this is where it is important for the audience not to be a bunch of reactionary idiots who take a que from a symbol or some words someone spouts and go off on a tangent. You get some people being ignorant reactionary little sheep like that who don't use their heads for more then a hat rack and guess what you get? Nazi Germany.

This starts to get into personal freedoms and what each individual can expect as far as their rights of freedom of expression and freedom from recieving harm for that expression go.

You people are seriously going to tell a Buddhist in India that they can no longer use their ancient swastika religious symbol because of what Germany did in the 20th century? And if they do so they are in the wrong and deserve what is coming to them from some ignorant American who goes "hurr, a Nazi, lets get em!".

What exactly about Nazi Germany offended you all so much? Their bigotry? Their ignorance? Their religious intolerance? Their violent actions and genocide against people who were deemed as different and lesser? And what are you all on here doing at this very moment about a symbol that has multiple meanings and which is very important to multiple religions and people on this planet beyond the boarders of the USA.

Alot of the thoughts on here, the ignorance of cultural and religious differences, the unwillingness to tolerate the religious symbol of another culture, the threats of violence against anyone who might be seen with the symbol. You are all attacking this symbol and the people who would associate themselvs with it regardless of intent with a ferver and bigotry that would make Nazi Germany proud.

Suppose you walk in to a convenience store with a ski mask on with no intent on robbing the store, but the store employee freaks out and shoots you. Now, which is more important?

But, if same person walked into a porn shop and the mask was made from latex, it would be pretty cool.

If Keanue Reeves bought this case and shaved his head, he would be just plain ole Neo.

My point isn't that one shouldn't use or doesn't have the right to use any symbol he or she chooses. My point is know your audience. Perception is reality.

Is it just a symbol or is it something more? Is the American flag just another piece of cloth?

Was War of the Worlds just another radio program? It was the perception of the broadcast that was important not the intent to provide entertainment. Many people died because it was perceived as reality. This not only happened once, it happened twice. The same reaction occurred in another country. Sad, but true.

This very text that you are reading in only a bunch of symbols. Actually, it is a group of light objects arranged in such a way to form words and sentences which in turn we attempt to perceive their "true" meaning. Fortunately or unfortunately, we all come from a diverse backgrounds, cultures and education.

Symbols have meanings and represent ideas, beliefs, and things.

If I type two words, it will have meaning most people will identify, but most will have different opinions of...

"Golden Arches"

hummm...what did you visualize?

I always wondered about the symbols when we'd go visit this beautiful structure near my hometown. This thread prompted me to look into them...(Below the star of david)

"In another sign of interfaith recognition, exterior pillars of the temple feature symbols representing some of the world’s faiths, including the Star of David (Judaism), a cross (Christianity), the swastika (an ancient religious symbol), and more."

I have been wanting to do a religious case for a while that has the major religions on it and this image looks like just the ticket. Now that would be a conversation case.

The swastika symbol actually dates back thousands of years and has been used in many cultures. The one pictured on this cue is not the same as the one adopted by the Nazis; the Nazis used a counter-clockwise version (in terms of apparent direction of motion), where the one pictured here is clockwise. Nonetheless, it's pretty bold of the case maker to use this at all; high probability of misinterpretation.

Here is the Wikipedia article on the swastika; very likely more than you will ever want to know.

Thanks for your post. Don`t get disappointed. U did what u could do to provide information to the uninformed. But some posters chose not to accept that information you provided and chose to maintain inflexible attitude and force their will/opinions on others. Isn`t it what Adolf Hitler did?

Some of the posters should not be visiting India if they are bothered by that symbol. In India especially the southern part of India, significant number of houses have that Swastikas painted on their front doors.

Some of those posters would not be happy to enter my house here in USA. I have art work with swastika symbol hanging in my living room. That is one of the symbols of my religion. Tough luck, if they don`t like it.

By the way, my money clip is painted with southern confederate flag. Confederate flag is cool looking.

I'll come at this another way.

If you are a company who wants to sell your wares on a world stage, it would probably be a good idea to have someone on board with the capacity to understand that this symbol, inverted or not, can offend and even hurt a lot of people.

Especially ignorant ones like myself.

Best,
Brian kc
