Raffles

That's What I'm Known For....My THINKING

So, who are the decision makers? Why haven't they responded to queries about raffle?

Apparently, the decision makers (Moderators) made a decision. They appear to have simply Deleted your post and all replies from the Main Forum. They didn't 'move it', they deleted it. That should be an indication that raffle notices don't belong in the Main Forum... imo
I think that raffles should have their own Forum/Section.

*Btw, I have two 15" tires, balanced and on the rims from my '78 Mercury Marquis and a 19" color TV with rabbit ears, that I'd like to raffle off in order to get some money to buy cue raffle numbers. I guess that this is the appropriate Forum for me to run my raffles and Ads and bumps. I may raffle off my 50,000 sportscards one at a time here in order to get some cue raffle money too. OK ? I'll spend all my proceeds on cue raffle numbers. OK ?

Hi Doug,

I agreed that raffle should have it own place on the forum or the forum be re-designed to accommodate the ease to access new posts and make it easier for everyone to search or tag ones that would be interest to us. I hate shifting through all the posts to find the one that I was interested in as much as anyone...(search sometime don't work).

My bad on posting on the main forum but hopefully that will kick off some ground rules from the Moderators. The forum php script doesn't really account for all scenario...but I'm sure guys are working on a more complex modules as we speak.

Regards,
Duc.

Why not have open bidding on these cues instead of a raffle.

Because no one will bid more than the combined dollar
amount of the raffle tickets. The purpose of a raffle
is to pull more money out of a cue than the market
will permit.

With a raffle, there are 2 winners, the one raffling the
cue, and the one who has the winning number.

Everyone else who participates is a LOSER.

I realize that some of you guys aren't excited about these links.....but, for $12 (which is less than you'll spend at your favorite bar the next time your out) you get a chance to win this beautiful (somewhat rare) cue!?!?

Yeah, but for $12 I'll at least get to drink a few beers and lake a leak on one of those big white mints !!!!! :)

Bidding on cues

I would like to think that already happens in a sense. Somebody asks a price for a cue, and the bargaining begins. That is unless somebody is FIRM on their price. But once again, in bidding, one person pays the whole chunk on the cue - not 42 people buying one raffle ticket worth 5% of the cue's original price. So it is a gamble to buy a raffle ticket, but it also does not hit the wallet all at once, unless you enter a bunch of raffles. In the end, the market sucks and everybody is just trying something new to sell cues. Yes, there are many losers and only 2 winners, but the fact that you could win a cue for very little investment is the thing helping these raffles succeed. If bidding went to the highest bidder (no matter how low the bid), and people do not mind losing some $$$ on some of their cues, then it might work. But I say best keep that auction format on ebay. Raffling is not auctioning. It is just another way to sell a cue.
Cues at really good prices will be the only thing to STOMP the raffles, or let them run their course, and die on their own. I do not think the government is going to shutdown people here on AZB raffling cues - many more pressing issues on their mind. But you never know.

I say prove to us just how okay it is and start that cueraffle.com site
Well, he probably would, but somebody already bought most of the good domain names and similar abreviations for cueraffle.com - Wonder who did that??

Can't wait to see the site.

M,

5% of the rafflers "number" is more accurate. Which is FINE.:)

I guess that a little arguing, red Rep, posting in the wrong Forum and a few PMs to the Moderators got things sorted out. Good luck to all in future raffles...

Doug
(and please keep them out of the other Forums, now that they have their own Forum/section) imo

Just a little clarification here for those who may not know....

JimBo did in fact come up with the raffle concept many many moons ago. here's the difference...he wasn't trying to move a product for his benefit. Because he is somewhat 'connected' within the industry, he has been able to get cuemakers/casemakers to donate items for either a charitable cause, or just for the fun of it, for these raffles.

Also, when he has thrown a raffle, it is more like an 'event'...it is not something that happens on a continuous basis....far from it! Also, the items that are raffled are often offered for under the actual amount that would be available for otherwise...this is to keep the ticket prices at a very reasonable and do-able level, so that all have an opportunity to participate. He does not make one thin dime off of his extremely rare raffles.

This recent raffle 'craze' has actually bummed him out....because it has taken his original 'for a good cause' or 'just for fun' concept, and bastardized it into a 'for profit' proposition. I can't really say that I blame him.
