This is from the 2008 Derby City Classic Straight Pool Challenge.

Ralf misses on his first two attempts, and then comes back to fire in 92 balls.

I am currently (currently being 1:15 AM) in the process of uploading all 6 parts of this video to youtube. Here are the first 3 parts (of 6) - I'll add the other links to this thread when I have time.

thanks, hope more is coming...

The complete video is uploaded - lots to learn in this video. Ralf fights his way through the beginning of this run, and rebounds like a champion and settles into a smooth rhythm. Great run by a great champion and a really nice person.

The entire video is 56 minutes.

Thanks for uploading these, Ralf is one of my favorite players to watch. I strive to have his mental focus.

Wow, that was amazing stuff...I just watched ALL 92 balls made and it was GREAT!
Way to go Ralf and thank you Blackjack for sharing this with us mere mortals.
Made me feel like trying again.

Accu-Stats

I have a great Accu-Stats tape of a 14-1 match between Ralf Souquet & Dick Lane (2000 US Open). Ralf & Dick are great. You can really learn by watching both of them. It is worth while picking a copy up.

thanks for posting those vids. i'm going to download them tonight.

straightman: can you digitize that tape and up it to youtube?

I'll look into it.

I do not know how to do it. I"m lucky that I know how to get to my e-mails & to this site. I'll ask the wife.

straightman: you need a usb gizmo that accepts VGA signals and accompaning software like eyetv 3.0. you can then watch the video on your pc and record it to your hard drive. my eyetv gizmo fritzed long ago but they make a slew of "usb TV sticks" now with VGA inputs.

Nicely done, Blackjack. I finished watching it today. I downloaded the files and then used Nero to combine them into one dvd and watched them on my laptop on the way in to work today.

Once again you have spent a lot of time making a nice video that will help a lot of 14.1 tyros.

Souquet sure does hit those break shots hard. Every one of them, I think. He always looks to see where he is going to contact the rack and then he always walks back and lines up the contact point of his object ball and probably keeps looking at it until he pulls the trigger.

He didn't seem to have too many problem areas after the initial or when necessary, secondary break shot. And he did a good job of bumping balls up to be break balls quickly.

Thanks again, for all you do.

Thanks, Blackjack for the the really good commentary.
And Ralf if you are on this thread that was a great run.
I got alot out of watching this one.

david:

i had connection probs and finally downed the entire 6 vids. a few things struck me.

#1. that diamond table is tough
#2. ralph's sequences were effective but sometimes baffling
#3. it's nice to know that even pros get those run-ending racks from hell.
#4. the commentator although at times insightful, rambled a tad.
#5. with all of the technology we have, why must we be saddled with fuzzy video? heck, they show a vid of a murder on tee vee and we can't see a darned thing. the pool vids are somewhat better however but a high-definition camera might make a big difference.

overall, however the video is excellent.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video -

I'll respond to your questions in BLUE

#1. that diamond table is tough

Yes it was - Diamond tables won't take junk.

#2. ralph's sequences were effective but sometimes baffling

Ralf had a difficult time getting command of the table - but then he got into a nice groove. It happens to everybody.

#3. it's nice to know that even pros get those run-ending racks from hell.

I have some video of some future hall of fame players that had trouble getting above 40. Some days are tougher than others.

#4. the commentator although at times insightful, rambled a tad.

I was normal until I was forced to work in that paint thinner factory.

The video quality is excellent IMO - although there is no audio. If you would like, I can send you a disc copy of the run - some quality is lost when uploading and downloading - will probably upload some of these videos to AZBTV if I get a chance.

Just for the record because of all the talk of how tough the Diamonds play, on 4" pockets Ralf's second and third balls in that run would have only hit rail and had no chance whatsoever of falling in. Not that he's not a great player and that's not a good run, but I'm just sayin...

all tables do that and in-the-know players use it to their advantage. when i'm shooting a long, shallow angle corner pocket shot, i often err on the rail side of the shot for just this reason.

david: i finally downloaded that entire vid but i'll take any other 14.1 vids that you might have. i'm on dialup and it's frustrating trying to download big files. ..... in exchange i can send you some of my vids. do you have rempe's "how to run 100 balls" and " how to run a rack in straight pool" ? these are the best instructional 14.1 vids i've ever seen.

thanks!

I think that it must be your dial-up connection then. IMO, the HQ full screen version on youtube is extremely clear. I am lucky enough to have high speed internet -

Thanks for the offer on the trades - but that isn't necessary - just PM me your address and I'll burn you a copy and send it to you.
