Rambow cue???

Interesting cue
I don't follow the cues on Ebay these days except when someone from AZ puts up a link, but somebody got a good deal on this cue for $3800
Presented by Willie Mosconi, made by Rambow, I think it's an amazing cue, and quite a find, especially for Ebay.

Is it a Rambow?? I can't tell, could be a palmer, Adam, bushka or whatever. Would be nice to be able to determine that, one awesome cue regardless.

Can't really be any of the cues you mention with that joint or butt cap. Plus it looks like Rambow's calligraphy guy to me. But I'm no Rambow guy. Nice Brunswick case too.

Yeah I always take that Willie thing with a grain of salt, not that this one dopsn't look real or anything, but Willie sure had a lot of cues personalized and gave loads of cues as gifts. I'm not sure how much any player's name adds to the collectibility of cues (the Glenn family could serve up a pretty good argument against me here) , however if any does, its Willie. Plus the fact that its a Rambow helps as Willie had a relationship with Herman and Brunswick.

As far as the price goes, I was through before it got to the end, but I had a feeling I would be bidding against the guy I would be offering it to (a little hard to ask beforehand) and it looks like I was right.

I'm about to put up a Rambow for sell. I joined this forum because I remember seeing a company that offers certificate of authenticity for rare cues. While looking for the name of the guy that did that, I ran across your post. Do you know much about Rambows? It has two shafts and is in really good condition but the ferrels have been replaced, but that's it. I can send some pics too. If not, that's okay too, I'll keep looking for the guy that does the COA. Thanks

Post some pictures. That would help.

Looks good, and the calligrapher was Charles Kimmel. Rambow's own signature was banal. All the fancy signatures were done by Kimmel.

Freddy,

I know nothing about Charles Kimmel except he did calligraphy work for Rambow. Does the writing on the cue below look like his work? If not, do you have any idea on who may have done it? This cue was Bert Schrager's fathers playing cue. Joseph L. Schrager.

Thanks so much,

Russ...

Charlie had some of the best handwriting in the country. He was the official hand-written scorekeeper of the PGA tour. I never heard of anyone else writing on Rambow's cues besides Rambow himself. It aint easy to write in wood like that.

George Fels might have a better memory of Charlies work.

It may or may not be Kimmels writing, but, it doesn't seem to resemble the typical type of writing seen on Rambows cues. It's too wide and bold. If it was in fact done by Kimmel, it would be somewhat of a rarity.

The question of Kimmels writing has been a source of curiosity, confusion and controversy, so I've decided to investigate it a little more.

In his obituary, it is mentioned that even after the advent of electronic scoreboards, the pros would still pose for a photo next to Kimmels handwritten leaderboards in the clubhouse, so, I have to believe that there are plenty of examples of his writing out there to be seen for comparison. We may even employ the services of a handwriting expert to help determine what he wrote, as compared to Rambow's own handwriting and that of his apprentice Steve Bihun..

If anyone can help us find some old golf photos (pre-1990) with a Kimmel scoreboard in the picture, or any of his other work, (handwritten cards or invitations) I will in fact offer a reward. You know where to find me :)

Charlie endorsed plenty of Rambow cues. There has to be many people out there who have a Rambow with his inscriptions on it. They are much more valuable by the way. Charlie played short stop speed, pool and 3 cushion and was tough to beat.
