I think the joke is that they are actually playing with a 1-piece massive ebony cue

Hmm... let me guess...
The only way to get a cue that is quite that hard nowadays, is to order a Komarov. So maybe the maker was an ancestor of you  ?

Certainly it is a joke. I have put smile in the title. :)

I like to watch an vintage pictures. This picture is very old. This picture from the old report of mission on the activity on attraction of wild tribes to a civilization. Wild people became civilized gentlemen and ladies.:) Even have organized clubs. Fine solid club with pictures on walls, the good billiard table, two gentlemen talk behind billiards game, a cigar, white collarets, tuxedos... Oh, sorry, except for white collarets almost nothing is dressed on . :) But it is not important. The main thing for the reporter - wild people aspire to a civilization. :)

And what cue should be in Africa? Certainly ebony. And balls ivory naturally.:)

And the biggest irony is that this pictures are made completely seriously, without attempt to sneer. Therefore is very ridiculous in my opinion. :D

Here still it is a lot of photo from this report. They not less amusing. :)

The shooter is a hustler.
That thumb over the cue is a dead giveaway.
That's their bait.

Nice table

The shooter is thinking, if I miss this shot I'm going to call a sharking foul.
The other player is thinking, if I lean on the table, it will make him miss for the cash.

Nice table, and I like the lighting fixtures too.

The photograph was most likely taken on New Guinea, the Photographer was most likely British, and the cues could be by any European Cue maker.

Take Care
