So basically I got into a discussion last night that nobody has ever made seven or more balls on the break in 9-ball and no more than 8 on the break in 8-ball.

I have personally seen seven balls in 9-ball (nick varner a long time ago) and ten balls on the break in 8-ball (a no-name player).

I believe the nick varner break was caught on tape. Does anyone know of any footage or videos of anyone making an insane amount of balls on the break?

In a match between Mark Jarvis and Doug Smith there were 7 balls on the break made and he didn't get out.

At the 7-Ball Challenge at ESPN in Baltimore, MD, promoted by Allen Hopkins, et al., Danny Harriman broke the balls and made 6 balls out of 7 on the break.

In the 1960 episode of the Twilight Zone called "A Nice Place to Visit", all 15 balls are pocketed by Larry Blyden when a full rack of balls is struck. Most impressive!

Do you remember if one of them was the seven?

You know, I don't. However, subject to check, I think if you made the 7-rock on the break, it was spotted.

Also, I remember each shot had to be called. If you didn't call the pocket, even if it was obvious, it was a foul. :p

Most Balls on the Break

I made 6 balls on the break playing 9 Ball on a 9' table at Bob's Billiards in Anaheim, CA. Three balls went in the same corner pocket like a train with two cabooses's and I was hooked!

I think you're right. In the early days of seven ball before the seven had to be called I made it about six times in a row on the break. It counted at that time. With a good break the seven ball was the fastest moving ball on the table. Normally it headed for the side pocket after the back ball came back to it from the end rail. Say hi to Keith for me. He's sitting right here. He said hi. He asked if you were still in "the valley" in California. He said he talked to "Jeff Moe" a short time ago.

Keith said you and Jeff were his two idols when he was growing up. :)

When I was younger and stronger I won a game of rotation on the break. I don't know if I ever knew how many balls I made. It takes 61 points to win in rotation so it must have been a good number. The table might have been an eight footer.

I'm still in the same place. And then he became my idol. Thanks to him for the kind words.

It would take a minimum of 5 balls (11, 12, 13, 14 & 15 = 65). You had to of made at least 7-8 balls because of the odds making all higher numbered balls is very unlikely. Remarkable feat!
