cubsmightwin,
Let's see..."hopeless Chicago Cubs fan".... Is there any other kind?

Signed,
Ex-Chicago Cubs fan (when they traded Lou Brock for Ernie Broglio I smartened up and changed allegiance for good).

Not far behind the Lou Brock for Ernie Broglio deal in stupidity is the keeping of Mark Grace and trading of Rafael Palmeiro, said to have been done because they didn't think Palmeiro would ever be a power hitter. True enough, Grace has one more gold glove than Raphi, LOL.

If I was using a pool room nickname.

If I was using a pool room nickname then my name would've been Batman, because I used to wear super hero shirts all the time and everyone started referring to me as batman. That's the only nickname ever given to me at a poolhall that I know of.

As far as my current moniker, I'd rather not say much except that I have used it since my early days of playing serious pool as my internet moniker, nothing to do with pool, I just happened to develop it at the pool hall I was working at while I was in college. Before that my moniker had always been Kevster. Since my early days of BBSing prior to the internet coming out. In fact I used Jaden on a BBS before I had ever been on the internet.

I drove a cab in NYC for both of Reagan's terms and several months into George I's. How twisted is that job? Well, the first time I saw "Taxi Driver," after I'd been hacking a year and a half, I thought Travis Bickle came across as just a LITTLE bit off. nothing too out of the ordinary, considering what you've got to deal with out there. Still a little off myself, I guess.

TX Poolnut (tek'ses pool'nut) ,n. A person, named Todd Riley, whose main domicile is in the southern state of Texas, USA and who simply can't get enough pocket billiards into his waking hours.:D

@guru, No relation, though I do live in the same neighborhood.

I am a member of the Ministry of Silly Pool Strokes.

My guess is it makes you a native of Atlanta, but not of Georgia unless your g-g-granddaddy was in the Confederate Army, taken prisoner, and forced to live in NJ for several generations. :D :D

Captain Hook = My Pool idol is Mike Sigel. Since they started calling him "Mike
the Mouth" on the IPT broadcast, i figured he would not mind if i used his old nickname here on the board. If anyone has a problem with it, i can always change it. Mike was always my idol, i copied his style, his stroke and his ability to put the cue ball in jail. I would always tape any TV matches that he was in and watch them over and over. My real name is Mike, my nickname growing up was "Cap" and the guys around here just call me Mike.:)

Monicker Derivation

Either I play second base for the Cardinals or I'm a priest hoping for that big promotion.

CapnHook - we have one of those on our baseball team, guy with a wicked deuce.

Portion of name

Perkins is the last name. So Perk has always been my nickname. Depending on who is mentioning it, there might have been a 'Plus' after it. This came from sports. I dropped the + and added 76 for birth year. So its either Perk or Perk76 on any forum, site, or any other place that needs a screen name.

Ironically, while in the service I created a license plate Perk76 and drove it around for many years. Just this last year, we got a new vehicle for me to drive, and switched the plate to my wife's car. Now she gets all kinds looks when she drives it around. :)

Pool Related and Double-Meaning...

Pool related part comes from the fact that when I started playing pool I was sure that I could find a unique grip on the cue for my hand size and style of stroke that would be superior to all others (or superior to a "conventional grip") to give me an advantage by keeping my stroke straight, helping me not to twist my wrist, and giving me a consistent grip pressure for all variety of shots.

Double-meaning part--I narrowed it down to this one because of the pool-related reality of my desire to find a "great grip" and from reading these forums...and thinking that many times I would have liked to respond to the authors of some posts with, "get a grip"...LOL.

Island Drive said:
I think most of us have our posting moniker/name, as it relates to us or something important to our lives. Me, Island Drive is the name of the street I will be living on when I retire and do my build out on Exuma in the southern Bahamas, and what does your mean?

I was once asked if I played basketball and I said
" just like Hondo Havlicek". The nickname stuck.

gabber

Gabber or gabba (pronounced gahba or gahbuhr in Dutch) is a type of techno music also known as hardcore. The style was born in Rotterdam, and it is distinguished by the loud and often aggressive sound. The essence of the The term is the Amsterdam word for 'mate' Netherlands, 'Mijn gabbers en ik' and is derived from the Yiddish word chaver, meaning friend. Apocryphally, one of these gabbers wanted to enter the Roxy in Amsterdam, where the bouncer said, "No gabber, you can't come in here." Source of the name "gabberhouse" was DJ "Hardy" Ardy Beesemer

gabber sound is a distorted bass drum, overdriven to the point where it becomes a square wave and makes a recognizably melodic tone. The typical tempo of a gabber track ranges from 160 to 220 BPM.

Your 'gabber' is your best buddy.

Gabber:)
