I just recently changed my prices,im still cheaper than my competition,i dont advertise,im 58 and i work full time,im as busy as i want to be,1 charge $35.. for moori, sniper, everest, and some other lamanated tips,$40.00 for break or $50.00 for break ferrule tip combo, change ferrule and any tip $60.00,do you guys feel im being fair or overcharging.Ive been doing this for 15 yrs so i kinda have a rep for doing half decent work.I was just thinking about it after a guy phoned me,wants me to do 3 tips for him,2 for his wife,1 for his son, gonna be $200.00,anyway what do you guys think

looks fair to me.the break tip price looks high, but i guess it all depends on what you're putting on.i usually use a thermoset material bought in rods so it's cheap.i recently saw the ice-breaker tips are $20,wow.i can see $40 if you are using those.

New ferrule and any tip ? even lepro, $60 thats high imo thats a $30 job here and even if its a Moori I only charge $50.Canadian funds as well.

I don't know where you are located, but your prices sound kinda high to me. I charge $25 for any of the layered tips you have mentioned, and $25 for a Jump Break ferrule or tip. I charge $10 for standard tips, Le-Pro, Triangle or Elk Master, and I carry a number imported layered tips from Asia, that I charge $15 dollars for.

I charge the following for other repairs:

Refinish with-wrap $120

New Shaft, Black or other standard collar including a metal ring $120

Ferrule replacement - Includes standard tip - $25 Other tips listed $15 + the price of the tip.

Re wrap $40

Weight Change for cue not purchased from me $10

Bumper replacement $10 - $15 depending upon bumper - Antique Bumpers or Original Balabushka Bumpers ( Brown Brunswick Bumpers) new $40. Other Antique Brunswick Bumpers - Price on request.

Reface a shaft / Butt - $15

Replace joint collar / Shaft collar standard $40 Price varies depending upon the ring work, and the tenon.

These are the prices I charge locally, and like you I have all the work I can handle, so this was not posted as an advertisement for work.
I do understand that prices can vary greatly from location to location, however, I think these prices reflect and fair considering the cost of materials and tips, along with man hour's invested.

This is my honest opinion, no disrespect intended.

i dont do repairs for other but i do change my own tip. i dont think your prices are that out of line from the prices i've seen other cuemakers charge. the break tip and break ferrule tip combo seem a bit high tho. the ferrule change and any tip for 60 is also high, u almost force the customer to choose a moori or expensive tip even if they dont want it.

and i dunno, maybe u should give that guy a bit of a discount since he's bringing in 6 repair jobs, 200 dollars for 6 tip changes is hard for anyone to pay for all at once.

i am thinking when he said any tip he meant choice of premium tip.

i like to give volume discounts and homeboy discounts and etc,but i know a few who don't.

Charge it.......your prices seem pretty fair to me if your a qualified tech and the work coming out of your shop is top self why let anyone else determine your pricing. You said it yourself .........your still cheaper than the local comp. People want quality work and are willing to pay for if they don't feel like they're getting ripped.
Cheapest is not always the best.......The best is not always the cheapest.

Man, my prices are way too low.... virtually unchanged for too many years.
Moori/Sniper $20
Talisman/Everest/etc. $15
LePro/Triangle/Elkmaster $10
Ferrule is $20 plus actual cost of tip.
People are pretty cheap here though, the area you're in will have a big effect, IMO.

I agree with this. If you can get the work at your prices, you deserve it. I think many times the repair prices are too cheap. Everything in the world has gone up huge in price the last few years but many guys are still charging $10 for a tip install. My opinion of course.

I'm about 5 or 10 above This depending on the job & the amount of other work needed on any given shaft, and I still feel It's working too cheap at times, because I get some pretty beat up shafts sometimes and end up spending way more time then the job pays after material cost. It's just part of making sure I do the work correctly, and to the best of My abilities though. People are really feeling the pinch here too though. Here lately, Alot of people that usually bring them in way ahead of time are waiting til the tip is down to nothing to have It changed. I'll probably end up getting even more ferrule jobs as a result of that.

I aggree with what some have mentioned, materials add up quickly, and some keep going up in price. I use alot of different products on a daily basis, and trying to keep a steady supply of product in stock eats up alot if not most of the profit.

Dave I don't think it is a question of not charging enough or of charging to much. I charge in my opinion what is fair, and that is all that I am concerned with. I have no problem making money at the prices I charge, and the state I live in is high rent. My goal from the beginning was to offer repairs for a price anyone could afford, and I have no problem finding work to do. Since we all basically buy materials from the same suppliers, unless we buy in very large quantities the price of these materials are basically the same.

My repair work in my opinion is very good, and I have a very large customer base that spans the entire state of Washington. Now, I do the best possible job that I can do on all repairs that I except, however, I have found people that just can't be satisfied no matter what like everyone else. However, these cases are very few, and I have built a business and a reputation that I am proud of and that makes my customers, customers for life. This not only includes repairs, but also retail sales of production cues and cases, along with other Pool and Billiards merchandise.

Now, I am not hating anyone for making as much as they feel they deserve for their work. Each of us have the right to charge whatever we feel is right, and this will be based upon experience and location I would assume.

However, I have no problem making money doing repair work for what I charge, in fact I am certain that there is more money in repairs than cue building for most of us any way. At the end of the day for me it all comes down to how I sleep at night, and I sleep very well.

Take Care

Well you asked. Your prices are ridiculous, bordering on thievery. Like I said, you asked.

I agree with you Sheldon. Your prices are about what I was paying for cue repairs 20 years ago. Personally I think your quality of work is worth quite a bit more than posted above.

As for people being cheap there, I used to think the same thing until I realized they had plenty of money for pool time, beer, drugs, going out to dinner, the movies and or golf.

Hey, prices are going up for everything! Repairs will have to go up as well. I have not raised my repair prices in several years but am working on new ones right now due to my increased cost of shop operation.
As for some people saying someone charges too much, There are alot of factors that determine cost. Plus supply @ demand controll price. When I have to pay someone to do work of anykind for me I am far more concerned with quality than price. I am a firm believer in you generally get what you pay for.
Just curious what everyone charges for the list below

linnen wrap $40
leather $100
stack leather $150
refinish cue W2 shafts $150+ Depending on cue and wrap
replace warped handle $150+
bent joint pin $40
butt cap $40+
joint collar $40+
extra shaft $150+ depending on ring work

Time is money. If it is a straight forward tip replacement, some prices look good to me. But like alot of things, people around West Pa, only get repairs when they really need to. Often much to the detriment of the cue. What looks to be just a tip can be a ferrule as well as a tennon repair.
That's why repair work is a pig and a poke. You never know what you will find. The customer will definatley tell you if you are too expensive, or you won't get many return customers.
But if they got 3k cues, whats $50 to $70 to have it done correctly and not have the shaft chewed on or scratched up by some one cheaper that ruins your investment.
But $40 on a $25 cue would not make much sense either unless you like the cue.
