Replace the felt on a new table?

I just purchased a new Olhausen table and they mistakenly installed it with the standard cloth felt. The company is willing to re-install with their Accu-Guard felt but wondering;
Does it really make that much of a difference?
Does it weaken the table (unscrewing and re-inserting the screws) at all to take it apart, re-felt and put it back together again?
Does it make that much of a difference on the playability?
Should I just take the $300 credit and purchase more accessories that I'll need?

Does't hurt the table any..but if you have kidds that are uncontrollable
it would be wise to change it..if not..i would take the credit and when
its time to recover you can choose a color in the Somonis 860 cloth..
at a cost currently of 375 bucks installed..SA
 
You should get what you want. It doesn't hurt the table to change the cloth and you would regret not having the best. If i might suggest though that if you are recovering anyway you might check out Simonis.
 
Take the $300 credit. Play on the table until it is time to replace the stuff that is on it. By then you should know more about different cloths and what you want instead of what others feel you need. I didn't see what size table it is but $300 for a "upgrade" is too much.

As others stated you can get the best cloth made (Simonis) on a recover for not much more.

Is it a credit or refund? Tell them that you want a refund and use the money to spend on bargains that you find and not their inflated prices.

As others have suggested, take the money and run. $300 for a cloth upgrade is highway robbery. I'm surprised that a company like Olhausen is stooping so low. Go with Simonis 860 when you do re-cover. That $300 will cover most of the bill. Stapling and restapling will weaken the wood somewhat but not significantly. In the meanwhile, enjoy your table.
 
I agree with the group. I have an Olhausen table, and while it has been a great table, I wish I had bought a Diamond.

As far as cloth, I specified Simonis, and got it. But if they made the mistake I would take the money and when I recovered it I would make my decision then.

The Simonis on my table is now 12 years old...

Just FYI - The AccuGuard cloth (made in the UK and branded for Olhausen) is actually Hainsworth Elite Pro which is their top worsted cloth and treated for spill resistance. It is in the same top class as Simonis - either of which will play much better then a standard napped cloth so there is a difference in playability. Recovering a table properly does nothing to weaken or affect the table so that shouldn't be a concern. That said, whether you take the credit and buy more stuff or opt to improve how the table plays now rather then a few years down the road is your choice. My opinion - have them reinstall the better cloth.

Wow, I just got quoted $325 for a 8' recover with Mali cloth. Now you have me wondering if the quote that I got is out of line.
 
I agree with Dartman. You spent good money on a table so why compromise on how well it plays for several years? Plus, you paid for it so why let them sit on your money? I'd go with the good stuff now and not look back. BTW, good for them in owning up to their mistake and offering to make it right. It's amazing how often these things turn into a pissing contest.

I Completely agree. The only way I wouldn't take the cloth upgrade now that they owe you is if the $300 they are offering you is a refund, not a credit, and if the money would really help you out around the holidays.

If money isn't tight, get the cloth you originally ordered now. You may also want to look into Simonis 860 and 860 HR which shold be around the same price as the original cloth you ordered.
 
I may be wrong but I believe Olhausen uses only Hainsworth cloth so it's unlikely they will redo the table with Simonis. I've been in the cloth business for 15 years and most folks are not familiar with the Elite Pro (AccuGuard) cloth which is every bit as top shelf as Simonis in my opinion.
