Replacing handle on a cue

Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to replace the handle of a cue (which is Irish linen wrapped) with a new wrapless handle. If so, does anyone have recommendations of who might do this? I think I would want to replace the handle with ebony, so perhaps just rewrapping with black linen and finishing over it would be a better option and achieve a similar look.

Looking for someone more knowledgable to chime in on this!

Thanks

I'm not a cue maker, but it brings a question to my mind.

What kind of cue are you talking about and what is it worth?

It will be cost prohibitive and will change the hit and make-up of your cue .
Just get the black linen epoxy coated and sprayed .

Another option is strip off the linen, and put black veneer in the groove and then refinish the butt....... you will be in it for $$$ and that is cheaper than ebony. Another option is buy a cue that matches what you want, sell this one as is and go on down the road.

I have replaced the handle on a couple wrapped cues with solid wood and it wasn't really all that much work. Did it because the thinner maple wrapped section was warped Took me a lot longer to refinish the cue than replace the wood.

Mostly because I suck at finish work.

I can foresee issues depending on how the particular cue is constructed though.

Also a solid piece of ebony for a handle would make it sink to the bottom of the sea.

Replacing a handle because it`s warped on a cue with a wrap groove is totally doable.
Replacing the handle in order to make a wrapped cue wrapless is alot more work, for one it requires that the rest of the cue is dead straight, and the cue will need a total refinish in order to look good. When you add the cost of materials and work, it`s about the same as a new mid priced cue (basic Mezz or Predator) It`s much more practical to sell the cue you have now and buy a wrapless cue you like the look of.
If you want a compromise solution, I would recommend stacked leather, done right and buffed to a high gloss it allmost looks and feels like a wraples cue.

Note to Kory:
Replacing the handle in a cue should be the last option.
Who ever you get to do the job, make sure they provide examples of cues they've done this to.
Please don't ask me. I'm not here for work.
