Rest In peace My Friend....James Barnett...

James Barnett did more for Texas pool than Tx pool did for it self.Adding numerous contributions to pool tournaments all over the state as well as putting people in action as if it was a way of life. This man should also be noted for his generosity outside of pool for making sure his friends lived well and have no worries..Multiple donations to charity and things of that nature.Money always seemed to be second to seeing his friends happy.I have witnessed this on multiple occasions and if you needed help this man might drive 300 miles just to loan you 20 dollars...This man truly was a great person to have on your side and it has been a pleasure to know him over the years...I would like to take this time to say I hope that you will find it in your heart to say a prayer for his family and wife because she has weathered the storm throughout every up and down and I cant imagine how she could feel at this moment..

Again it was a pleasure to know you my friend and the world will be without another great..Rest in peace....

DP,

This is a VERY sad day for sure. James was well liked by everyone that knew him. He did support pool in Texas in a big way.

James loved pool and loved action. I remember one show that I did in Thibideaux,La where James called in and talked to Gerald Huber, Author of The Green Felt Jungle, during the show. Those two could keep us on the edge of our seat for days with pool stories.

I am in shock!

Thanks for posting this David.

James was a generous man and a true gentleman. I will never forget him, or what he did for pool in Texas. The pool world has lost another great one.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this tough time.

I can picture James right now, as he was having a great time at the Tulsa One Pocket tournament and we bought each other some shots and shared great laughs. But it was what he did for pool in Texas and his generous heart that I hope to always follow.

You will be missed, James!!

It was really cool that he got to make that event! He also recently made a tournament in Mobile.

James loved sweating the action and being a part of it was really important to him. When pool streaming started happening, James was really excited.

I miss him on the streams already. His handle was ironman3844.

Hope you are doing well Trig.

Ha ha yeah he gave us the royalty treatment in Mobile. Not many players get to ride to a pool tournament in a 600k rv(tour bus)..Walked straight to the bar and said open me a tab and anything these 2 (Me and James Davis Jr) want for the weekend is on me..Offered to put us in the 1000 a man ring game and had the green light to play any game we saw fit..To top it off offered up 2 hundred to go to the mall if we needed new clothes..It would be unjust to call this man a stake horse..Its only fits to call him a man of honor and care...

I dunno what you people are doin saturday but there is a lot of people who wouldnt even have lights on in their homes if it was not for this man extending his hand..With that being said I hope I will be seeing all those that are capable of making it to lufkin...Good day David Parker

I just got a phone call about this just hours ago and I'm still in chock.
James Barnett is one of the greatest people I ever met. his generosity is just beyond belief. he honestly enjoyed helping people and rarely, rarely asked for anything in return.
My heart goes out to his wife Sandra and his family. A James Barnett can never be replaced or replicated.
i feel just awful about this!
A special word to Joe Mcnamara too. They were great friends and had a special bond!!

did the mac and cheese pass also? if so i am sad to here that....what a chesse player....and a great finger pool player...

While I never had the honor to meet Mr. Barnett, it's obvious from the posts here that he was not only a fixture in the pool world (at least in his part of the country), but also a man of uncommon generosity! RIP Mr. James Barnett. Best wishes and condolences to his family and friends!

Mr.James Barnett

I have known Mr.Barnett for about 20 years. I meet him when I was a youngster in the pool halls here in College Station Texas. He would always give me advise on how to make money in the pool halls and know who to put my money on. As the years went by he continued to visit us here in College Station and was well liked in this area. He will be missed in this area and he will always have my respect as a person as long as I live.

Anyone have a picture of James to add to this post? I am sure I have seen him around, although I am not a tournament player. Sorry to hear of his passing. I was in Houston this past week when I learned about this. My prayers are with his family and friends.
