Restoring an old pool photo

I just finished restoring a photo on an old billiard/pool collectible card. It occurred to me that someone out there might want something like this done for an old pool picture in their collection. [size=+1]I would be willing to try restoring ONE image for the first AZ member who PMs me and then sends along the image.[/size] BTW, doesn't this guy look cool as a cucumber as he attempts what must be a very difficult shot!

No, I was just using Photoshop Elements 4.0. Nearly all of the work was done with the Clone tool, sometimes set for a width of just a couple of pixels.

For the Poor people that need to manage their Pool or other photos, Google just came out with a new version (2.5) of Picasa with additional
features added. It edits, manages, creates albums, creates CD's, creates collages, creates posters, creates web albums, emails,prints, exports, drags and drops, and other options. It has a geophoto option that can assign a photo or group of photos to a geographical location of the world. It has nice screensaver options also. IT IS FREE.

For an example, I just created a 'WSU Shockers' folder for pictures of the Shockers for their 06-07 Basketball season. They are already trailblazing this year by beating George Mason, LSU, and Syracuse on their own courts so far, and will play Wyoming this coming Saturday in Casper.

That is all that is needed. You just have to be patient enough and willing to set the pixels low enough.

Don't overlook the smear tool. There are certain time it is just what you need.

Smudge or Smear

That is all that is needed. You just have to be patient enough and willing to set the pixels low enough.

Don't overlook the smear tool. There are certain time it is just what you need.

Yep, that can come in real handy as well. But as you say, patience is the main thing.

I couldn't decide about that. One the one hand, I wanted it to look good, but on the other hand, I wanted it to look old. Guess I could do it both ways!

Harold, as I said in my reply to your email, I can't do anything to improve the image as it is just too small (about 80k) and has little detail. When I made my offer, I was thinking of someone who had a print that had been damaged, creased, faded with age, etc. that I might be able to restore.

So my offer is still open to an AZ person with an image that needs restoration. Bear in mind, I am NOT a professional and that's why I am offering to give your print a try free of charge. Just as a friendly gesture to our AZ family.

Wow, Rick, what a great job you did on that image. I took one look at it and decided there wasn't much I could do with it, but you really improved it. Of course, there just isn't a lot of detail to begin with, but your edited version looks very nice. As I told Harold, he would need to get the negative in order to produce a large print that would look really sharp.
