Well, I am 27 and dreaming of retirement in the Philippines

From what I understand Norway is probably one of the world's wealthiest
countries. Only 5- 6 million pop. . a national pension retirement fund, low unemployment, very safe etc. , why leave something like that seriously??

Some people in the Philippines would say why leave the USA? Plus I understand there are people in the Philippines on line to be allowed to enter the USA.

It one of the fastest growing cities in the world.

On the down side. This place is becoming more and more expensive. Not so compared to western countries though but i think we are trying to be as expensive and that's BADDDDDDD.

Guns are illegal here so never heard of a shooting incident here for as long as i can remember.

There are few cities in the world where it is safe to walk about late at night.

Come here and retire! Open a round the clock pool hall or something. I will shoot there I promise.

Depends on the individual's priorities. If someone's dream is to go to the USA, or anywhere else in the world, why interfere? People always search for whatever they think is right for them.

True but there are ways to deal with this without marrying a local. As a poolplayer,too , you'll most likely travel to other countries for tournaments so why worry about this now.

I love everything Singapore except for the expensive part. Kind of makes it hard to open a poolhall too.

First of all, Norway hasn't got the Filipinos The people in the Philippines, and their friendly smile and laughter makes me feel good.

On the other hand, the national pension retirement fund in Norway means that when someone is old enough to retire, they can live where they want in the world, and still get the monthly cash from Norway. (Same amount as they would have got in Norway). That means that Norwegians who are retired can live good in Philippines, where the costs are perhaps 1/10 of the costs in Norway.

And let us not forget the pool

Hi,
I am from india but have live in thailand for a close to 2 years now.It is a very nice place to retire.Though i am not retired and wokring here

The only places available to play pool are mostly in bangkok,some in pattaya,koh samui and phuket and none in chiangmai where i live.

The cost of playing pool in either of the places is about 8usd an hour.there are weekly handicap tournaments in bangkok and many many expats play.if u decide to settle in any other city than i suggest u put up ur own table.
The primary game here is snooker and u wil find snooker halls all over thailand.
You need to show 3 milion baht to the authorities to get a retirment visa here.

I've been in Thailand for seven years now (not retired, but I will probably still be living here once that time comes- hopefully in about ten years, when I'm 50).

It's a great place to live, and I much prefer it to the Philippines (though I like to go to Manila for a visit once in a while). The pool scene in Bangkok is excellent (Cuaba knows much more about it than I do- he's a player and is friendly with many of the room owners)- there are leagues, tourneys, and nice rooms. The scene exists to a lesser extent in most other places, especially where foreigners tent to settle.

Getting a retirement visa here is pretty easy- you need to show 800,000 baht in a bank account (not 3mil like Monto said- at least not if you're from America- it might be different of you're from some where else)- this is about $25K.

Cost of living varies- it's on the steep side where I live (Koh Samui), but there are many nice spots (mostly near Bangkok and inland points) where it's much less.

why not retire overseas, litterally. may i suggest a sailboat. you'd be able to go to any pool mecca with limited economical effort (load up on spam & raise ye sails (you'll also need barley and yeast (and hachis too))) and put it all on sharking. go with the weather, head south in nov. and north in may. as captain redbeard even people in polynesia will give you spots. and since your practice environment is foul, to say the least, unless you get a cat, you'll run your racks in 4.3 sec. on average.
