i don't know for sure, no one can, but i like reyes for the win at reno. i think even at his age,52,i still think he is the best player alive, and the best "all around" player that ever lived. i believe he will win in reno. ok,let the posts fly! who do we like for the biggest tournament in history, that might not be duplicated next year,or ever again! p.s. i plan on getting out of the first round, which for me would be amazing!

I think with Manolo's amazingly hard break, I think it gives him a slight edge over a handful of others in his class.Needless to say there has to luck involved with whoever wins.

i have a strong feeling for Manalo to win and also think that Orocollo will be right there close. With such a strong solid field of players we have today anyone one of them could pull it off. i'd like to see one of my favorite players win and will be rooting for them. Archer,McCready,Strickland,Davenport. And then of course Our Queen,Linda Carter hope she kicks some butt, like in MS's.

Certainly reasonable to pick Efren, but I'll say it will be either Manalo, Souquet or Archer hoisting the trophy in Reno.

FINAL 6:

3 Europeans and 3 Filipino's

Filipino to win it this time for sure.

I am gonna say ...

Almost, 2 Europeans, 3 Filipinos, and 1 American, and I am saying the
American will be Archer or someone out of the blue.

Another european will win in Reno and I hope it's a UK player. Look out for Darren Appleton and Daryl Peach who both reached the last 18 in Vegas only missing out on the last 6 narrowly on win %. Or even Mick Hill who came within a whisker of dumping Efren out of the tournamnent in Vegas shortly after beating Busta. Quiten also has a great chance now he'll be used to his Z shaft that he acquired at the vegas tournament.

OK so some of this is spoken with the heart not the head and if I had to bet hard earned money I would have to put it on a Philipino - probably Manalo but I really do feel that the UK boys will win one of these events very soon.

I wouldnt be surprised if it was damn close to the 6 that made the final 6 in the NAO. Although I am pulling for some lesser horses, I think the names we saw at the top, are gonna be there once again.

Reyes is always a good choice, and if he doesn't win in Reno you know he will be right up there near the top nonetheless. I would definitely look for 2-3 Filipinos to make the final six, A German or two as well, the last 1-2 spots could be an American, a UK player, maybe even a Russian again;)

Archer is a GREAT 9 ball player, he doesn't seem as comfortable at 8 ball and 14.1, he's playing well of course but his recent wins have been at 9 ball.

I seriously doub't the last 6 will be anywhere close to the NA last 6, maybe a couple but no more than 3 for sure. For me Duel has the best chance of all the Americans and he could make the top 6.

From what I saw, the 3 guys who seemed to stand out were Manalo, Orcollo and Souquet.

But there are maybe 40 or so other players who could make the last 6 and steal a win if their game comes good at the right time and they get their chances.

I'd expect to only see about half of the guys that made the last 18 make the last 18 this time. Manalo, Orcollo and Souquet would each be stronger than even money to get this far.

Colin

[edit - added] I though Efren struggled a bit at the NA Open. Perhaps the long event tired him. I'd be a fool to write him off, so I won't, but I'll be surprised if he wins it...even a bit surprised if he makes the last 6.

Top 6:

Thorsten Hohmann, Germany
Niels Feijen, The Netherlands
Alex Pagulayan, The Phillipines
Efren Reyes, The Phillipines
Ralf Souquet, Germany
Mika Immonen, Finland

In the final:
Mika Immonen vs. Niels Feijen

Niels Feijen will win

Manalo and Orcollo

I am really quite surprised that a lot of people are choosing Manalo and Orcollo over and above the other Filipino players (Reyes, Bustamante, Pagulayan) considering the facts that they are less seasoned and do not have any major titles yet. Do not get me wrong, I think both of these players are great and I think that they have the potential to be pool superstars in the future but I want to know why most of us think that they will be in the top 6 in the upcoming IPT tournament.

I would not count out Reyes and Bustamante yet. Based on their current performance in the WCOP (demolishing a Drago led Malta team 9-0), he and Bustamante they are in top form. I would not be surprised at all if they bring home the title.

Thanks CCN! You're a sweetie.

I am going with Orcullo and Manalo in the Finals. They have all the seasoning they need and over the long haul, more consistent than most. Hohmann, Souquet, Pagulayan and Efren to round it out.

i would say the 4 best players alive today in the IPT are:

reyes
manalo
hoemann
souquet

they are machines. but anyone can win, the french guy suprised me at how great he played! yannick buessef, pardon my spelling, but that cat can play! i wouldn't be suprised to see him come in third or fourth.

also mick hill is an animal, and can come in the top 10.

my not so much of a dark horse is nick van den berg, for the win.

i believe kelly fisher will do the best out of the women.

and i think myself, Bernie Friend will get out of group 1,which would be a big deal in this tournament, not only for me,but most of the 200 players. i shall show no quarter, (british term meaning NO MERCY!)

i like colin colenso to advance out of round 1, but he must pick up his rythme, not his pace, his rythme.

watch out for charles bryant, his break is better than bustamante's !!!!

it was clocked at 34+ miles an hour, how's that!

jasmin oscein, pardon spelling, should be incredible to watch perform on the world stage.

i would have loved to seen fong pang chao qualify, he is one of the greatest players on earth.

allison fisher needs to do something big here, to save face, will she?

alright, through it all, i still think there is one and only one player that has the "touch" "feel" finesse, and carress, that can not be equaled, efren reyes, when you watch him and then watch everyone else, the other pool players seem to be banging the balls, hitting the balls, hurting the balls and ordering the balls around, where as, efren~~~~~~~ just touches caressess, massages, the balls into the holes, never over stroking, nor poking, just a smooth soft, melt in your mouth stroke, like butter. he hits almost all of his shots at that "efren reyes speed" slow soft, and in a dreamlike caressess, i belive he got that stroke from billiards. it's a well known fact in 1979, reyes quit because no one wanted to play him in pool, so he took up billiards, and really discovered a whole new world into stroking and positional skills, and now when you watch close,he has a 3-cushion billiard player stroke. you could see, he always finesses the balls into the pockets, soft strokes with spin, as oppose to various speeds, with less spin such as earl strickland.

anyway, i think reyes is going rise to the occasion, and win it, will see soon, in one week or so.

Best woman: Jasmin Ouschan! No doubt!

If the draw and first group doesn't kill her, and she gets practise time on those tables and cloth she will do really good.

During the Qualifier at ElbowRoom in Norway she won 44 games. 16 were Break and Run, and she also snapped the 8 once... I have never seen a girl play as good as she does. Remember she finished 5th at the WC 14-1 and at the Norwegian 9-ball Challenge this summer (better than players as Raj Hundal, Niels Feijen, Tony Drago) and she has just recently beaten Thomas Engert, Klaus Zobrekis, Vilmos Foldes in two IPT-qualifiers...

Archer sure has been playing well lately.

I like his personal goal. No unforced errors for 6 months.

Jake
I tend to agree, he has that look in his eye.
I also like Orcollo.
I watched this kid all week in Reno and even though it was a bar table event, this young man seems to be something really special.

It is my feeling too that this long and grueling format will wear down many top players. Even Orcollo stated after the NA that he needed to exercise more. I've thought from the start that this would be bigger issue than many thought. How though can we write off an Efren? Oh well he has proved himself so many times that nothing he does surprises me anymore.
Like you, I'm expecting some changes in the final 18.Each month will be more and more intresting which is the beauty of it all. I hope there are no repeat winners.

I am especially keen on seeing how young Jasmin makes out at the World Open, she could certainly surprise a few of the men in Reno;)
