Rhea the new Chapter, without Gene

sorry I blew up..........

if rhea knew how to take care of rhea gene wouldn't be on here asking for donations so she can have a laptop to document this train wreck, i mean god forbid we miss 1 moment of it

it's bad enough i have to read posts on facebook w ppl i know that are more concerned w some lost dog from 2 counties away than their own family members well being especially during this time of year but i have to come on here and see some1 w a disease that is bein enabled by donations of members here

if u are in a charitable mood most on here wouldn't have to look too far to find people that could better use the $, if not in their own families i'm sure in their local communities, find some local charity that buys gifts for kids @ least u know the $ will go for a good cause and not end up in some pawn shop for pennies on the dollar a week or 2 later

I just thought there might be a few that would want to keep hearing the stories and might want to kick in.

She is a one of a kind and this is a very special situation.

Ain't like i asked for the world for her.

Bah, Humbug..........Merry Christmas ;):D Who knows. we might be looking at a future world champion here? You never can tell.

Uh, if you're looking at someone whom is 37, been playing pool for 18 years, and couldn't cash in two B player tourneys in Wisconsin, you aren't looking at a future world champion.

Great post by Johnson about giving locally than to this trash heap

As stated before, the library is open during the day and it's free. If anyone wants to donate that's their business though.

Speaking of smoke... the last 2 years I went to the DCC (at the Horseshoe in 2010' and 2011' ) the smoke just outside the 'tournament room' at the only entrance/registration/concession area almost put me in the hospital -both times. (Same for the Music city Classic at JOB's in Nashville- it used to be rediculous as well). It was so bad because the weather "forced" everyone to stay in close quarters... The 'streaming' or gamble rooms upstairs at DCC were even worse.

I (as well as many others I know) can easily afford the 2-4k it takes to support the the DCC for the week as just an 'average pool lover' and even a couple of thousand more for the entertainment but I can't afford the 2-3 weeks (or more) of feeling like a lung disease 'guinea pig' that reduces my quality of life to bed rest and 3 weeks of meds (loss wages) to recover. When will 'tournament pool' stop cutting it own throat? How will pool grow to ever attract a 'major sponsor' of a health- youth driven social conscientious 'public at large' with this deadly albatross (specifically SMOKE) hanging around its neck?? They- the 'interested public' -by necessity-(like myself) MUST look elsewhere for 'Pool Entertainment'.

The cost/risk of traveling to and from the tournaments- hotels etc, paying large entry fees for multiple events, even the gambling entertainment at the casinos and in pool is NOTHING (ie penny's) compared to the real damage to ones health (ie loss of wages, Medical costs and quality of a long healthy life) -not to mention the long term cost to the "business of pool" (attracting the public/sponsors etc) that SMOKING around these events is taking away from our great sport.

As they say... 'Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is......" If we're going to 'Dress the Part' we've got to 'clean it up' ourselves... so we can all participate whenever we want...

just sayin

Randy

Randy they changed the smoking policy at Derby to where you can no longer smoke in the area outside of the tournament room and you are no longer supposed to be smoking up in the action room.... The bar areas and casino itself are the only indoor smoking areas anymore.... At least that is what I am recalling... I know I had to step outside to smoke last year as there were no more ashtrays upstairs near the control room as there were in prior years and I got fussed at for having a lit cigarette outside of the bar area as I was hurrying back from grabbing a coke during a break... I apologized and the guard said not to worry about it people were just getting used to not being able to smoke everywhere...

JOBs keeps the lower area non-smoking now but the upper area is like a train station... For the most part you can stay in the lower level but you have to fade going thru the main smoking areas so for people who are acutely sensitive it's rough action......

Last time I was there I used my timeout against Max Eberle to walk up to the upper level to order a beer and smoke a cigarette... I just stood up there and waived at him... I came back and explained how my nerves were shot from not playing in tournaments for many years.... He laughed and proceeded to beat me 11-6 while I mentally and performance wise threw up all over the table LOL....

I know what you mean. Some are willing to kick in. If I see you around, I'll fill you in.

I am doing great

Hello everyone JB is here at Jamaica Joes and allowed me to borrow his phone to make an update.

my bankroll is slightly larger than what I left Wisconsin with.

when I. Got off the grayhound my friend kevin Tomlin from Oh met me at the bus stop. We split the cost of a motel for 3 nights in Tulsa and cabbed to the poolrooms.

I aged in a mini tournament that night but did not cash. afterwards I played a guy and got my entry fee back at least.

the next night I went to Magoo's and got in action with a better player. it was a close match but I ended up $50 winner for that night.

the day of the tournament I won my first match. then my 2nd match I drew Liz lovely the winner of the tournament. I got to the hill first at 4-3 but she made a comeback and beat me 5-4.

I won my next match and eventually ended up finishing 7th place.

I got to meet James Walden and he even staked his girlfriend Debbie against me 50$ sets. I won all 4 sets that we played.

The next day after the tournament was over I got a ride from Joey Gray to Okc.

I stopped at Chester's and met with Chip. I wished Chip good luck on his fight night match in Chattanooga with Brandon shuff.

that night I stayed in a $50 motel. But before I retired to my room I went to Chester's for some action. I played Driller for $20 sets to warm up and lost 2 sets but then I met Chad.
chad was chips steakhouse and plays really close to my current speed.

I started off playing a $20 set on the diamond bar box getting the 8. I won and he said he didn't think he could give me the 8. I suggested we move to the 9 footer which was triple shimmed. I agreed to play even for $100.

I ended up beating him out of $500 more but he insisted we continue playing and now I was dead tired spotting him the 8.

He won all but $20 back.

The next day Joe R. from Chester's gave me a ride to Jamaica Joes.

I met Herman there and we began to go around finding games. I beat one guy out of. $20 and Herman let me keep it all. then I beat Rick out of $400 and I got to keep half.

Next day we go to Chester's and I play a guy named Eddie getting spotted the 8 and it goes hill hill and we doubled up for $200 and I lost 7-6.

Next day I practice drills that Sean King gave me and then eventually I play a guy and lose $15 of my own money.

Then we go to Chester's and I win every $25-$100 set I get in.

Next day we go to Chester's and I play a $50 set with Long and win hill hill..

Then last night I play Long again and we play $100 sets even. He wins first set. I win next 2. He wins 4th and 5th.

Nothing happened so far today but going to play a mini tournament.

Got to meet Hillbilly Bryant last night.

Anyway I wanted to correct the paypal address it is not gmail it is ymail rheabrooks@ymail.com

You did not give a complete recount of wins, losses and betting amounts, but as far as i can see, you at best broke even.
Factoring in motel costs, food, table rent etc. You`re in the red

How much is minimum wage at McDonnalds these days...

It has been 9 days since I got on the bus. I have $34 more dollars now than I had 9 days ago.

Well if I`m using a standard Norwegian work day as a formula (7.5 hours/day)
You have made about 50 cent/hour the last 9 days.

prob not

She prob made more and spent some. I made 3k in the last 9 days and have about $34 left also.

I`m only making statements based on Rhes own information.
My point is that you can`t sustain yourself on that kind of money.

Well, I met her and she seems like a healthy person who isn't starving. She seems to be doing just what she stated she wants to do, play pool as much as possible.

Not sure what sustain yourself means but being cash positive and not hungry seems like sustaining to me.

Also going 9 days and having more than you started with means whatever you are doing you earned 9 day's worth of expenses whatever they were at the very least.

I don't know, I guess if I were a free spirit roaming the country playing pool and I were able to feed myself and get shelter then I'd consider it to be a fine life if that's what I really wanted to do.

I mean tonight I dragged in five boxes of cases and set them up and carried on about six conversations about them without selling one - when what I really wanted to do was practice one pocket only. That's work and I have an obligation to my family to do my job selling cases. I am tied to those cases and to Jamacia Joe's for the duration of this tournament so that I can answer any and all case questions. That's not free.

Rhea can pick up and go to any pool room in the city as she pleases, gamble at her whim, or choose to stay in the room all day if she wants to. That's way more free than I am. I might make more money selling several cases than she does but I guarantee I will have had to WORK to do it.

Most of us can do the same.... And I don't need anyone's permission or have to depend on others to get me places, or to find a place to sleep. That does not sound so free. And I can play all the pool I want, in my home, in my leagues and in tourneys all around the area......

Nobody is saying she should not do this.... they are just pointing out the flaws of her choices... she is free to ignore them, as you are as well. But free?? hardly

Rhea is free to make decisions. She's not necessarily free to act as she wishes. John, you actually are free to do what you want. You made a choice to set up the cases and try to sell them because that was the responsible thing to do. However, you were free to make a different decision and go play one pocket. The point is, you were free to make that choice.

Rhea may decide she wants to play in a tournament in China next week. However, I doubt that she has the financial means to make that trip. Therefore, is she really totally free?

Here's the point. There is a difference between freedom and care free. Rhea is pretty much totally care free at this point in time. However, her actual freedom to do as she pleases is quite limited.

This is my first post here on AzB, having been introduced to the site last week. Last week also marks the first time in 15 years I've been in a pool room. 15 years ago myself and a few other players went on a 3 month road trip that started with a $14,000 score and ended with a fatal gunshot wound to the head for my friend.

As a veteran of the first Gulf War, I would never tell anyone how to live there life. I'm pretty big on freedom of choice. I will offer this: The road can be unforgiving, and there is more to be lost than your money. Take care of your health: get enough sleep and try to eat right. Sleep and diet greatly effect decision making, which can lead to tragedy on the road. Good luck Rhea.

John, it is impossible to find a thread, that you do not interject your profound wisdom into ! (requested or not)..It is
not hard to discern, that you are either just plain 'nosy', or you don't want to miss a chance to promote your product !
..I'm guessing 50/50 :embarrassed2: :embarrassed2: :embarrassed2:
