RIP Cyclop?????

The first gen. of Cyclops had some issues but this was corrected and they were fine after that. Look at rexus' specs if you doubt it. D'sphere's are as well made as any ball out there. As stated earlier the reason Diamond switched balls is because Cyclop went away when the parent company hooked up with GDM to make Dyna's. Had nothing to do with quality issues. I'm not a big 'China guy' either but Dyna makes a great product.

I recently purchased some NOS sets of the Cyclops Hyperian and Zeus balls, i think they look great.

the old standard colors for me. no need to change them. has done nothing but confuse people playing and even to announcers have to keep correcting themselves, and look like fools to new comers watching them trying to guess what ball is what.

Unless one of the balls rolls off.
the problems were on the real early stuff. they quickly got that sorted. the last few yrs Cyclops were out they had no issues afaik. a friend got a set with his new diamond table and they seemed to roll perfect to me.

The problem was with a small percentage of balls, so far as I know. In that case, a single set doesn't say much. And if you are testing for roll-off, you need to roll each ball at least three times in the test unless you have special equipment.

I have a three ball from DCC that does amazing things.

I have a set of Cyclop I bought at DCC from Diamond when they were in a partnership. I'm guessing I bought them in 2015 or 16. They play 100% perfect. I also got the normal colors, they were offered in both styles.

What I recall about the sponsorship partnership was it was for 5 years. After that, Diamond was free to look at other opportunities. I believe Diamond went elsewhere "before" the Cyclop brand ceased, and the manufacturer teamed up with Dynasphere.

Frost has a hard on for Aramith. I talked to him in person last year in a WNT satellite event in Philly. He hated the Dynasphere sets in use at that event. He had the Aramith CEO on speed dial. He hates every ball except them. I'd take what he says with a grain of salt with respect to the other brands.

it is so easy to prove a set or a ball rolls badly. it is non sense to make a blanket statement without some evidence.

besides in every aramath ball there is more space inside it than material. that is a fact.

I do remember some video out there of a cyclops ball making a funny roll at a pro tournament. I played with them plenty at the expo and at home and never saw anything funny. Just got some dynosphere tungsten’s for christmas and I love them. I haven’t seen anything strange.
I remember the first time we all saw them Lol the super billiards expo that year was in jersey. We walked up to the tables the first day and were all like wtf lol was very odd at first.

A weird thing I can't remember happening ever in my life except this time. I was playing with the tungstens and in the middle of a session swapped to the traditionally colored bronzes. As soon as I hit the bronzes and they spred over the table I felt the front half of my brain relax slightly. I wasn't aware I was fighting with the tungsten colors in my head. I had played with them a few months by then before buying the bronze set.

It was an odd feeling but I decided my brain was too familiar with traditional colors after over fifty years to change. Of course I remember playing with a brown seven ball way back when.

I had a set of Cyclops and they played great.

However, though my memory is a bit foggy on this, as the company ramped up production they moved to a bigger facility and some of their machinery got out of calibration and some sets were released into the wild that were out of tolerance. So, some balls rolled off and the number on the one balls cracked in some cases.

But if you got a good set they played great.

I have and still play with Cyclop Hyperion, bought in 2020 (right before the brand ceased). I also have and play with Dynasphere Bronze, bought some time in '21 or '22.

Both play great, better than anything at any pool hall I go to. The Hyperions are on my home table and the Bronzes are in a case that I take with me when I go somewhere, like a super-grimy pool hall.

I would recommend either brand to anyone.

You know the only ball that screwed my was the two ball lol I don’t know why. It’s still blue just a different shade but for the first week I’d catch me looking past it.

Personally I like the elephant balls. Who remember those? If I'm not mistaken it was introduced in the early 90's.

It has the marble.
