I don't understand.. You have the guys phone number, His name, Where he lives... People on here have said they live close by to him and would drop by and see him? How is nothing being done about this? Someone should get this guy and make him pay up..... How can we just let this guy steal money and do nothing about it? Kinda makes me mad...

You need a bounty hunter . . . some guy like the DOG to stop in on 'em and learn about respect . . . I've recently been ripped off on Flea-Bay . . . $450 . . . I managed to find out where the little bastard lived and a phone number . . . I have a friend who lives in his area, and he managed to raise him on the phone . . . the thief is now contemplating whether he'd like to have my friend pay him a visit, or mail me back my money . . . I still haven't got it, but the guy is now walking to his car very carefully and probably screening his calls . . .

As you probably already know, Flea-Bay and PayPal are USELESS. I hate to sound like the wild west here, but this happens to people way too often. Hire someone to have a little talk with him and go from there.

It seems the number of rotten apples is on the rise,
but I guess put against the total number of transactions
on AZ it's probably not that bad.

It does seem like a good idea to start a seperate section of the forum for threads like this one.

As for the idea of a topic made for these shameless bastards: I would like to tell my suggestions.

If we make a topic for that and keep bumping it up forever - that is a good idea. But if anyone wants to write the s***bag's name into it, people won't read all the the 20-50-100 bumped pages so I reckon that there should be someone who could be pm-ed with the names - and that person could write those names into the very first post - in this way keeping all the names piled up, making it easy to see who are the bastards here and on Flea-bay.

In case you think that I am proper to do that, than, if you want me to, I can make a topic for that and I can receive all the pm-s and keep the topic updated with all the names.

What is more is that I don't think that each particular problem should not be solved/negotiated in that topic, it would contain only the names and the bumps - if anyone has got something to say about someone, I believe that it would be better to start another topic (just like this one or the one TATE has started, etc).

What do you think about all this?

Take care,
David

My thoughts on this...long

Ok, So you have a name, number and address!?!?! I hope all the emails you sent with the documentation for the money you sent?!?!

CALL THE POLICE IN HIS AREA!!! THEY WILL QUESTION HIM! CALL THE D.A. IN HIS COUNTY! THEY WILL FILE CHARGES! IF THEY DON'T CALL THE F.B.I.

He has broken laws by using a computer. That is a Felony in California. I'm sure its also a Felony in Ohio!

Good Luck!

Those are good ideas, unfortunately in this case they won't work because the victim is in the Netherlands. Anyone would have a hard enough time getting them to pay attention to a $225 crime. If the victim is overseas, law enforcement knows it won't make it to a court so the police, FBI, DA, etc. won't waste their valuable time.

Another avenue it the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). They will at least log the info and get his name into the system. They are at http://www.ic3.gov/. BUT, unless he is a multiple offender, they are unlikely to pursue a one-time theft of $225.

I'm sure the scumbag in question realized that because his victim is out of the country, there is little chance he will be prosecuted.

My story. My greed got me into a bad situation a few years ago. I came across an ebay auction in the last few minutes for about $2500 worth of golf equipment which I snapped up for $1200. I usually am VERY dilligent in checking feed back, asking questions, etc., but like I said my greed got me in trouble. After I sent the cashier's check I started to quickly realize this was a scam. Excuse after excuse, then outright lies.

The one flaw in his plan however was that he had to give his name and address for checks. I googled his name, Chris Donmoyer from Schuykill Haven, PA, and found a police news item where he had been arrested as a teen for knocking over street signs. I got a private detective friend to find me his phone number and I called the PA state police who, it turns out were looking for him for another matter. I also posted a message on ebay for other victims to contact me and lo and behold he had pulled this on about 10-15 other people. I got most of their names and info and when he was eventually dragged into court he was forced to pay back all of the American citizens. The two from overseas were out of luck.

In this case the most we can do as a community is to give him a call and ask him to explain himself publicly. As, Dave Sutton pointed out, it's dangerous AND illegal to threaten/confront him in person. Just keeping their names in the spotlight might eventually get results. I'm guessing that since Bret was in such financial trouble, the money is long gone and he can't even raise $225.

Good luck DD.

MM

Thank you MM, appreciate it.

The local police have been quite helpful, but as you write with me living in another continent they can't go down to his house and arrest him. They are aware of the situation though.

I haven't contacted the FBI or the Secret Service, because even though I'm a very straight up kinda guy, I wouldn't feel to comfortable giving all of my personal info to either of them. Besides, they probably couldn't do much either.

I am going to look into that IC3 link and report them both there.

I have been in contact with several members of this forum who are keeping an eye out for Dan or Brett, but this avenue is also filled with trouble as you have allready stated. What would happen if they got into a fight and one of them got seriously hurt. I'd probably be in more trouble then Dan ever was, as would the guy trying to help me out.

Best advice I can give anyone is avoid dealing with the both of them like the have the plague, and if you do happen to run into them tell them I feel very bad for them. Selling their soul for $225.

sry to hear you loss dave. i didnt realize it was you that got screwed. i wish u stepped in and said a good word for me when my deal went south but its cool. i refunded. our deal went smooth, right. how do u like the jerry???

Hi Dave,

The Jerry is a fine cue, only reason I'm putting it up for trade is that I've wanted a Scruggs from the moment I first saw one, besides I normally play with big-pin cues (I'm working on trading it for a big-pin Scruggs). About me not putting in a good word, sorry but that deal and what should be done about it seemed pretty clear-cut to me, but indeed our deal was smooth.

yea i know but there were reasons why i couldnt do it immediatly. jose might want the cue back instead of giving a partial refund. i also had alot of cash tied up in limbo with paypal. u know?

anyway he got the cue thursday night and he got a refund sat afternoon. thats pretty fast. i wouldbe happy with 1 day how about u. lol

All I can do from Denver is do a bumpity bump, I wish I could do more. This is too bad since most of the current AZB members left standing are basically honest. Maybe it's time to start the "hall of shame", or a system to track, and fairly evaluate deals gone bad, without the back & forth mudslinging. We could elect a panel or committee to compile and update the list from a fair and unbiased opinion.

Add Hawleys Billiards out of Dallas Texas to this list. This thread reminds me of the time I went to Walters house, met his wife and kids bought boxes of cues and cases to bring back with me to Okinawa to sell and he asks me if I can get him Moori tips. I sent him a full tin of Moori's first because he told me he would only pay me after he checked the tips. He claims he never got them but I called his staff and he remembered the box comming in. This is 8 years ago but I will never let go of this. I tell all my customers. The international crap kept me from my money even if I am an American!
Maybe he smoked too much and forgot?? :p

Well, I'm a man of my word and even though it took me almost a month, I finally erased Ironhead_79 's two green boxes and got him into the RED.
