Road Player wins tour stop but wants to remain anonymous

Whoever it is Mike, send him down here to Kingman to sneak up on me. Tequila Bob's, on Northern and Bank St. But he has to play with that cap over his face too!;)

I think that's the best response yet to this question! :D

I will ask every road player I come across with a
build like that to pull a stocking cap down over his
face, so I can see if it is him?

LOL good one!

I knew a great player out of Florida that to this day continues to be mostly undercover. Whenever the time came to take photos, they would say one, two three CHEESE and at just the right moment, this guy would always look down so you didnt get a good shot of his face. I asked him about it, and I pointed out that by entering bigger tournaments, he was giving up his right to not be knocked by a pic. His reply was that he only gave up his right to the people who watched the tournament, and that others would have to pay the price of admission to see what was behind door #3. He also said that he didnt like being anonymous, he wanted nothing better than to be known worldwide as a champion. The problem was with the state of the tournament purses, if his picture were spread far and wide, he would be a well known homeless pool champion. 15 years have gone by since we had this conversation, and this guy is a homeowner with less than 30k left on his mortgage, lives lean but well and supports a family.

For this guy who has his picture cut out, I don't know his story, but I am inclined to give him the benefit of doubt that its a matter of survival that he needs to remain anonymous.

Since my friend Stevie is going for the real cheese now and beating the big boys I think I can post this. He used to never pose for a photo when winning smaller tournaments. Dianne Hoppe was after him for 10 years trying to get a photo to post and he wouldnt let her. I've seen Stevie die his hair blonde and even shave his head trying to disguise himself for the road. I guess it paid off though, he's probably one of the best road players of all time.

Stevie came through Gainesville Florida a few times when I was in law school (around 1991). I remember when he first came through he had dark hair, then when he came through again he had blonde hair. Didnt really help him much imo because anyone who saw him play could not miss seeing his long stroke and sledgehammer break. He ran around with Johnny Ferber out of Gainesville for a while, acting like Johnny's son "Junior". Ferber was a great hustler, he was the only guy in Gainesville that I saw that was able to get "can't run three balls with BIH" frat boys to play $50 a game eight ball. He had them lined up to play him.

Yes ,that guy on the left is Mark R. and i also know the guy on the right, very very very underrated player and i beleive these two are going to play on Thursday from what i understand......I feel that he also didnt sign anything saying they couldnt publish his picture either im sure....... This guy in question is "very sneaky" also with his name.................:D :D :D

What's wrong is the guy standing next to him has this for a picture (for his livingroom) of his own great personal accomplishment ruined by the selfish idiot standing next to him. I still think the whole thing is dumb. No picture, then don't paly. Had I been there and saw all this, I would have boo'd the guy out of there for being selfish jerk. People always thinking of themselves...ugg!

That problem, is the net. On boards like this you get every jackoff writing about people most of who they don't even know to just to sound important. Who this guy is is no ones business and no one has the right to post a picture of him in my opinion.

Hey gang, I have one that I really want to get off my chest. I received the usual slew of tourney results from this weekend and received the following picture from one of the tour events.

It seems that the winner is a road player and doesn't want his picture on the internet (presumably because it will kill his action).

The room owner and sponsors of the tour added money and/or product to make the event a success and they do that in exchange for the promotion from the event. I assume this player didn't offer to give the money back that he won since he was not allowing the tour to promote those sponsors properly.

Am I wrong at thinking this sort of thing is very 'dark ages' and is doing nothing at all for the game of pool?

Mike

This is really a big issue with you, how many times has this happened? I am guessing this is the first time ever.

You have no problem paying money to get into a tournament without a shot to win ??? If you publish his pic you might know enough the next time to enter a tournament with him in it and maybe some of youre freinds......Personally i know him and i think its very funny ...:D

It may be genius on his part. If he had not put on the ski mask, the picture would have been glossed over, and no one would have given it a second thought. Now, it is sure to be talked about for weeks, and someone will recognize him and he will get his 15 minutes of fame.

These days, there are a ton of great players. Hiding in the bushes does nothing....Stepping up and saying "I play for money, muscle up!" will get the money players and wanna be money players from all over wanting a piece of you...

Look at Tony Chohan....he has the balls to step and say "muscle up"...I don't think there is any shortage of action for him these days.

It may be ego on this ski mask guys part...he might just be trying to portray this "I am a road player" image just because he thinks that is cool....

or

It could be something like...."Let everyone know that I am a big time road player.....but don't tell anyone"

Remember Famous Unknown Comic

So I am curious if anyone know how much money was won by the unknown Road Player?

So much that he was willing to give away his anonymity, and threaten his hustling career?

I think being photographed, or ask to pose for a photo when a Big Trophy, Prize, (like a Cue or Case), or Money is always a possibility of winning a Pool Tournament.

Maybe the Unknown Road Player is Kin Folk of the Famous Unknown Comic circa 1970’s who use to do his show with a Paperbag covering his face.

Yep, but seriously, how much would having his picture published have ruined his hustle? How many people see that stuff? I think it's kind of silly.

That's the problem with free speech. You going to try to repeal free speech in the US there macguy ? I for one do not give a rats ass who this fellow is.

The subject at hand is the principle of asking for special favours in hiding ones identity after winning a tournament in order to maintain an advantage in future gambling matches. This is a form of deception that hurts the games image, and reduces or eliminates some promotion possibilities for the sponsor/promotor/hall. It's pretty common in any sport for any size/skill-level event to report the winner ... look at the sports section of a paper if you don't believe me. Now here comes the venerable game of pool, and you see pictures with faces blacked out or guys in fake beard and nose-glasses with names like Gimmy Cash or Lemmy Steelmoney. This is the kind of conduct one expects from con-men and organized criminals, not sportsmen or professional athetes.

It's probably that he doesn't want money games with people who know how fast he runs would be my guess. He doesn't want to have to give up the world to get a game with people. He wants to be able to dog it and win by just enough to keep them playing.

That's what hustlers do. They get the nuts and take the money.

Opinions are opinions and everyone is entitled to one, even us JACKOFFS and all others. The problem here is that the picture should never have been taken.
We run a regional tour in Texas and never would even consider taking a picture like this, much less submitt it.
Maybe we, as Jackoffs. look at this weirdly, but we feel we have a responsibility to a lot of people to be as honest and straightforward as wwe can possibly be.
There are players and tour members who are the first we owe to be honest with. Without them, we have nothing. Now, if they decide to matchpu a nd fo off, that is their decision.
We have sponsors who give us good money to protect their good name and the integrity of the tour and the game.
Many of us have calcuttas and have loyal bidders and buyers and I certainly feel I have a responsibility to be as honest as possible with them. If not, they are gone with a bad attitude and feel like they have been cheated.
So, if a big time road player comes through and doesn't want to give uup his name or a little about himself, he can go on down the road.
We have never had that problem though. Jeremy. Hillbilly, Gabe, Corey,Cliff.Danny Medina, Danny Bassavich, Jose, Sylver, Jason,Rodney, and even Ronnie Allen, just to name a few, were very gracious and understood why we did what we did and I think even respected it. Now, they trust us.
Love,
The Jackoff

Plain and simple.....if his primary objective is the hustle, then he should have stayed out of tournament play and/or at least bowed out before winning. I'm sorry, but this guy can't have his cake and eat it, too. Not to mention that he posed for the pic. What did he think the purpose of that was? Even if the pic would have just gotten developed and hung on the wall, it would have the same effect as being here on this board. Except MORE people would no doubt see his face....people that might actually be in a situation to lock horns with this guy. Gimme a break.

This issue......stupid.

The fact that this edited picture was posted here......even more stupid.

Any questions.

Sean

The bottom line is, this was a public tournament open to all who paid their entry fee. The name and photo of the winner should be available to the public.

Why should the people involved in the tournament help this idiot rob unsuspecting players around the country.

If he was as good as he thinks he is, he would realize that a little press would help attract bigger action from the better players, however, I think he doesn't want a fair game, with a better player. He wants to rob players who don't have a chance to win against him.

Next time, I hope they take the picture before they give him the money.
No picture, no money. JMHO.
