No i believe mark was told he was captain and could pick all the members. He chose the 8 and 5 system himself.
^^THIS^^
correct.
and, there were a few who were disallowed.

"............. in order to have the best team, we need to have some sort of system where players who want to be included in the selection process have to opportunity to play their way on to the team. The 8 people picked are all great players, granted, but when we automatically exclude the rest of the playing professionals, we're hurting our chances at victory.
At the start of this year Mark analysed many players whose records would have given them a chance to be picked. He was also lobbied by a lot of 'new best friends' seeking a spot.. At the end of this process many did not meet the character criteria that he had set. He then had a fairly big short list of players who he interviewed face to face. From this he selected 12 contenders which then went down to the current eight.
So everyone of the names being touted on various thread would have been considered.
Many worthy candidates may have been dismissed because of Mark's vision to create a team culture and this is no slur on their ability. It simply needed careful consideration on how chosen players would interact.
Probably one of the players who would not be an automatic choice might be John Schmidt. But he ticked a lot of boxes on Mark's assessment and he has delivered the goods as Mark expected he would and is a valued member of the squad. think he will be one of the main beneficiaries of the San Diego experience.
Another one of the team who will be a much better player after this weekend is Brandon Shuff. He will take over the mantle that Johnny Archer has carried so well for so many years.
When Mark has established his Captain's credentials you may find in future years he may be able to assemble a wider range of players who become all year round members of the MC squad. True professionals. Very few people realise the amount of work Mark has put ino this project. It's enormous!

That's quite the prediction.
Was that a prediction or a directive, as you're always so subtle.

i thought Matchroom was running this shin-dig? you think it's possible, that they might have put their foot down on the non-returning players & new scope? do you have any idea how much money they had to refund on Day 4 tickets, cause most of our "pros" didn't make a crucial shot? how much did that cost them in sponsorships? or could? the USA is lucky that Barry didn't jerk it from us & change to North America or Asia.
i mean, it is their $$$$$$$ and reputation....
Mark Wilson is building a reliable team, that should restore faith in pool.
I think we are North America:welcome:
Well find a sponsor and a TV Network willing to show it and play them. USA v Canada.
There are still plenty of good Canadian players to add to those three.
You could even pick your own Captain.
No I'm not being sarcastic
THE BORDER BATTLE see hereI vaguely recall a CW event USA Vs Canada -North South or something it was called? I can't find a blessed thing on it so i may be having false memories again.
