Rodney- what happened?

While waiting for the 6pm match today I could hear Danny D and Jim Wyche chatting on the web feed and it sounded as though something happened that involved "Rodney" and had Danny D quite concerned. I assume they are referring to Rodney Morris but I could be wrong. Does anyone have info about the apparent drama earlier today?

Children under the age of 6 are unpredictable and irritable at times, I don't blame Barry for enforcing this...

Looks like a child under six wrote that sign.

Real relevant. Way to point out the important part.:frown:

Doesn't matter...message is the same. Keep the rugrats out of the tournament.

What if Earl was about to shoot when Rodney's kid threw a tantrum? Is that considered sharking?

Rodney's wife and kids was in the stands while Rodney and Danny Harriman was playing. They was well behaved and did not cause any kind of disturbance. If I was Rodney I would have reacted the same way. These players have to do a lot of traveling, and when their families can travel with them, I feel that it is a good thing. I stand behind Rodney 100%

What? Half the BABIES in the the room are over the drinking age. If someone has a child and it is disturbing the peace then the parent SHOULD take them out. However, to make an arbitrary ban is a little over the top in my mind.

Is six years old the magical number where kids can be quiet on demand?

Yeah, the message is the same, get your kids away from pool tournaments and pool players so that they can learn to write and spell correctly. Give me a break - this is the most prestigious tournament on US soil and they can't even go in the office and PRINT a sign and maybe use a spellchecker????

Rep to you John, I have seen several instances where Earl has acted like he was under six and was permitted to stay and play his match. I think anytime someone, regardless of age, is causing a disturbance they should be removed from the immediate playing area.

There is nothing ARBITRARY about that sign. It clearly states that anyone under 6 is not welcome in the audience for the tournament.

I still can't tell what your problem is.

1. The way the sign was printed?
2. The message it delivered?
3. Who it was meant for?

Are you telling us the the US OPEN should now be a day care center? Or do you just have a problem with authority?

Another BIG BLACK MARK Aganist the game!

Let's lock all the children in the cellars! I think Rodney's wife has been around tournaments long enough too understand the importance of being quite. I feel that if their children were acting up she would have removed them from the room. Also, this would have placed more stress on Rodney and he could not keep his concentration on the match, knowing this was distracting the other opponents.

Solution: BAN all children from football, baseball, basketball, bowling, golf, or any sporting event. RIGHT!

This sport lags behind the other sporting event now, let try too keep the public interest up and entice the younger people too get involved.

Just my opinion!

Like John pointed out and you fail to recognize, it looks like it was penned by a 5 yr. old without the benefit of a spell-checker. Total lack of class in all respects.

Half the posts on this site have mistakes in them, and the message still gets through. If you want to get into semantics, go somewhere else.

The message was clear. It was just mis-spelled.

It did appear to be directed at Rodney and his family, since the sign appeared after the fact. Rodney's wife does a great job contolling their children and they are always well behaved from what I've seen. If there were other children there who are not so well behaved, then that is a problem that would need dealing with. I do think a crying child should be removed by the parent from the arena immediately.

Rodney appears to be comforted by having his family with him, and that's a good thing IMO. They were all present at the Mosconi Cup with no problems. That being said, it is Barry's event and he has the right to maintain order as he sees fit. My point being there are exceptions to every rule and this may be one.

Well I didn't really HAVE a problem until you jumped on me. I was just half joking when I mentioned that the sign looks like it was written by a child.

However since you want to create a problem then yes - AS I MENTIONED I have a problem with the way the sign is printed. It's a professional event and if you want to communicate to people that they cannot bring their children in, then at show them the courtesy of printing a nice sign with proper grammar. What does it take, all of FIVE minutes in the office to do this.

I am sure that such a sign makes a WONDERFUL impression on journalists coming to review the event, not for it's content but for the irony displayed.

And yes, I have a problem with the message. I have been to the Open many times and have never seen a problem with children there. Since this is an event that many people travel a great distance to I think that the attendees deserve some prior warning that their young children would not be welcome. I am not a big fan of last minute ad-hoc rule changes.

Do I have a problem with authority? What kind of silly question is that? Yes I am just rebellious for rebellion's sake. Do you have a problem with courtesy?

Since you were "half joking" in your original post, I will consider this post a total joke. Maybe I just don't get your humor.

The interrelationship of the sign and posts here is non-existent, but you can't say the same about the lack of class.
