Ronnie Allen Has Passed

R.i.p.

I did not know Mr. Allen personally, but I had seen him in action, and I know he was one of the the great characters in the pool world. I am sorry to hear of his passing. He was one of the legendary gamblers. I think someone provided a link of a video where he was telling some hilarious stories of his past recently.
This was somebody whose autobiography I would've bought. R.I.P. "Fast Eddie".

I had a few things to do today....can't think of one of them right now.

Ronnie Allen was the most talented all-round player I saw when I was young.
...and the most macho.
As a pool player, I was blessed to have seen him in his prime.

Rest in peace, Ronnie.

RIP Ronnie. I never had the pleasure of watching him play in his heyday, before my time. But, I was fortunate to watch him play some in his later years. You could tell that he was a great player. The quick pace and one pocket moves were a joy to watch.

A true legendary road warrior has played his last rack with us mere mortals. Godspeed Ronnie. I sure hope Grady, Ginky, Fats, and Mosconi let you in on their game. Thoughts and prayers to your loved ones sir.

RIP :(

Another legend has passed. R.I.P.

Those links above are good stuff. I'd recommend everyone give them a listen. Not all are about pool, but gambling on just about anything.

Ronnie was by far the most entertaining charcter i have ever known. I have said it before and will continue, he was the best one pocket player I ever saw.

Danny Medina and I walked into Hardtimes in LA years ago about 3 am as Ronnie was walking out.
He saw us and just stopped in his tracks.
"what are you two doing" he asked>
"Just looking around" I said.
"Go home boys, only three types out this time of night, Gypsies, Whores, and thieves" he said.
"where do you fit in" Danny asked?
"Son, I have em all covered" He said walking away.
i first saw and met him in 69, I think, in Johnston City. he was the best player there and by far the crowd favorite. When he and Minnesota Fats went at it, well it was just priceless.
If you knew Ronnie he covered all emotions. He was both feared and loved. he could make one laugh, cry, and even run away.
R i P!!

Got to see him at a tournament in OR once about 12 years ago. Great to watch him move the cueball.

RIP Ronnie. My condolences to the family.

Great post. RIP to a legend.

My condolences to allen family, always enjoyed talking to him at derby while signing my collectables!! What a legend he was! Will be missed!

RA will be missed by many people.

I hope most realize that RA was the player that changed one pocket from a passive to an active game.

He was the best at moving the most balls toward his pocket in a single shot.

He also ran balls in one pocket better than anyone of his generation.

I wish him the best wherever he is.

He was a friend,

One cool cat...

Several years ago I was in Vegas for BCAPL tournament and was walking out of the tournament room close to the challenge tables at the Riviera. As I walked buy I heard a voice that sounded familiar to me. I casually backtracked to see who it was. I had read about the GREAT Ronnie Allen and seen him on video and but there he was just chillin sweating the matches.

It just so happened that I had taken my Winning One Pocket book with me with the express purpose of seeking out Eddy Kelly over at the Hilton and get him to sign my book. anyway, I walked up to Ronnie pausing for a moment till he finished something he was saying when he looked at me kinda cock eyed like "and just what do you want". I said "you're Ronnie Allen aren't you" and it was almost like he was surprised that I knew who he was but his questioning look quickly turned to big smiles and laughs.

Of course I was a little fan boy, and giddy with excitement just to have a few words with him when I remembered the book in my room. I asked him if he could give me a minute to run to my room and get the book because I sure didn't want to miss the chance to get his autograph. He said he would wait and I proceeded to haul ass. Of course the room was a pretty good ways away but still in the Riv. elevators were slow and I was really getting anxious. So after all that I ran back to the room half expecting him to be gone. But there he was waiting for me. After he signed my book ( cost me 1 beer :D ) we chatted for quit a while about lots of stuff and it was greatness. I'll never forget it.

It just so happened that I ran into him a couple of more times over the next few years and he always remembered me ( if not my name).

He was one cool cat! RIP Ronnie Allen
