I had heard that White Diamonds were NOT phenolic. Maybe Picone can
post here and make it official.

What I've done is put a hard Water Bufalo on the end of the phenolic. Then I cut nearly all of it off. Leaving a THIN leather layer, for a tip...JER

thanks,i have seen that before.but another cue maker told me friday that they are indeed paper based phenolic.

i actually don't like them for jumping anyway, decent for breaking i guess,i get requests for them occasionally.but i just wanted to be sure if they are legal or illegal.

i believe that the bca rules say it has to be a leather tip for the break but the jump cue can be phenolic.

As of yet the Western BCA has not gone along with the general BCA rulings against phenolic tips and they are still legal in their tournys.

page 4 of the BCAPL rulebook as of 6/19/2009:

Cues
a. The width of the cue tip must not exceed 14 millimeters. There is no minimum width.
b. The weight of the cue must not exceed 25 ounces. There is no minimum weight.
c. The length of the cue must be at least 40 inches. There is no maximum length.
d. The cue tip must be composed of leather, fibrous, or pliable material. The cue tip on break cues must be made of leather with no non-leather materials added to the contacting surface.

VNEA and ACS are under WPA sanctioning as opposed to the BCAPL, so this rule does not apply for those leugues and obviously not for APA either.

Pressed super pro tips are the only alternative you will ever need, and depending on the radius of it jump really accurate as well..

I have to agree with the Samsara break tips, I just put one on a players J/B for a friend and they break great and jump great even on a cheap made POS. I bought a OB break shaft partial which comes with the Samsara break tip and haven't drilled and tapped it yet but on a good solid 3/8 10 butt it might be fun.--Leonard
