Sad news about Grady Matthews.

Grady, an American legend

When I first started attending the Pro events, back in the early 80's, I watched you play many times. Those are memories I will always look back at, as part of an important turning point. You helped inspire me to pursue this game you love so much. It was at the Derby, in the AZ room that I got have some conversations with you, and now like to think of you as a friend. You have been an inspiration to many players, all over the Country. Lived life on your own terms, and stood up for what you believed in. The pool world has been blessed by your presence thru the years. I too, don't think you realized, how many fans you have all over the world. You will always be a true American legend. Thank you for all you have done, and the many great memories you have given us all.

I just got the following message from Grady Matthews daughter and thought it should be passed on to all AZer's.

"Hello all. Happy Easter. It is Marie, Grady's daughter. If anyone has anything they want to say to my dad, I would do it soon. He fought really hard through chemo and radiation, but unfortunately there is nothing else that can be done. The doctor has given him about 4 weeks. His family is deeply saddened by the news. I will follow up with an address to send letters to on Monday."

I hope all of you that know and love "The Professor" as I do will send along a note on here to show Grady how much we love him and appreciate all he has ment to us and the pool community over the past years. I just wish we had all of his knowledge and great stories written down somewhere.

We love you Grady !

My prayers and thoughts go out to Grady and his family. Grady keep up the faith! This is very sad news. I am sorry to hear about this!
Many Regards,
Lock N load.

Very sad news, indeed.

Best wishes, Grady.

You are one of the best commentaters on accu-stats.

I'm so very sorry

Dear Marie,
I never had the pleasure of meeting you, which is odd because your dad was close with both my brothers, Jack and Bobby and myself. We all traveled with him from time to time and we all took off scores with Grady. We even invited him to a Taylor family reunion. About thirty Taylors and one Mathews that we considered a Taylor too.

While so very many personal friends and fans are heart broken at this sad, sad news, please know, Marie and Grady there are some Taylors around the country, especially myself who feel we are losing a brother but will never lose his memory. Grady, my brother. I hope you can hear this: I've been where you're going (if only for ten minutes) and I hope you get this message that there is so much more to come.
God bless you both.

You're no doubt one of a kind Mr. Matthews and will always be known as a great teacher & ambassador to our sport. My best wishes to you, your family & closest friends in these toughest times.
God Bless!

Dear Professor,

Thank you for your exhibitions at Brown's Billiards in Hadley, MA, back in the 80's when I first met you, and for all your great Accu-Stats commentary, and for all your entertaining stories from the world of pool and otherwise, and for your tireless promotion and love of the game of pocket billiards.

Peace my friend.

Glad that our paths have crossed

I am glad that our paths have crossed. And so are many others. You have
given so much to the game, to ordinary players and to champions.

I met you at Hi Q Billiards in Toledo. You were there with Allison Fisher.

It was a great evening. I learned much.

I have several of your videos. All great values.

Marie, give your dad a hug for all of us.

Respectfully
Al
