Sales / Wanted rules Update

Kevin,

Just curious... how does the number of Watchers on the Southwest cue (without posting the link here), compare to the numbers of watchers you get when you have posted a link to a similar cue here?

I'm not so well versed on mid-week numbers. eBay funnels me more search results than most sellers, so my numbers run a little high, but a "normal" cue like the Satin will end up with about 125 watchers (to answer your question I have 59 right now which I think is maybe the norm for me mid-week). A Gina or a nice TAD or a Szam or a Balabushka, the link thread on AZ will generate about 1000 views (in a week) almost all of them which translate into a page view on eBay.

I do know that (I think anyway) I find very little actual price differential between auctions I just let run without an AZ link and those that are linked. Cue auctions get more early bidding, more page views, more watchers, and far more non-paying bidders than most anything else I sell on eBay. Now if I could just buy a cue for $300 and sell it for $2100 (like the Watson Surrealistic painting last week) I'd be all set.

Hope that answers.

Kevin

I would like to clearify

My comments were not directed directly at Kevin. I have always felt this forum a giant step above any transaction that ebay could provide. In that respect ebay listings just are to be avoided when this forum is the alternative.
Nick :)

Is that what they are saying? I don't know what they are saying besides "no linking of eBay auctions in the For Sale section". I don't see how preventing their members form knowing about my eBay offerings benefits AZ Billiards at all.

You know, we are all discussing this like we are a community, sharing ideas and opinions as if we have any say in anything. Fact is, apparently, we don't.
This discussion is taking place after the changes, what discussion (among the "Community") took place before?

Thanks again

Kevin

Yup, I believe that's what they are saying, and yes you are correct......we don't have much of a say. They (the owners and mods) make the rules. We can choose to live with them or just not participate. If I was in a situation I didn't like, I'd make my decision to abide by the rules and participate or hang it up and live with it. This is their house....and they make the rules. Maybe the general public thinks my 8 year old should be allowed to stay up until 9pm at night but I don't care what they think. My house=my rules.

I don't see what you don't understand about this.......YOUR EBAY ITEMS ARE NOT FOR SALE WHEN LISTED AND LINKED IN THE FOR SALE FORUM, SO THEY DON'T BELONG THERE. If you chose to end auctions early for AZ'ers then I would be behind you with a lot of what your saying, but other than using it an advertisement tool to benefit you, your not doing any favors to the members here by showing links to an auction site. If you offer every item you sell for a week or two here before it goes to eBay that would be a nice courtesy to members. You can even use your daily bumps to say "3 days till eBay" or something along those lines.

Some of us believe that rather than AZ being the mod's house and their rules, that instead they have built a community and as members of a community, we all have some say and participation in how the community functions and operates. I think that's just a difference in points of views and I really don't feel compelled to change yours, or to limit you expressing it, or to type in caps at you about it. I think we can do more than either obey or not participate. I think we can discuss (and possibly effect change).

If everyone agreed with you and saw no benefit to what I was doing I certainly wouldn't be here making my case, but if you've read the thread, many do see a benefit and enjoy my auctions. Again, just a difference of opinions. That's what makes the world go round (and really one of the main functions of theses forums is free expression of those differences).

As far as you seeing in my mind and knowing my intent, well, no you don't.

Thanks again

We have different opinions and that's fine. I'm by no means trying to start a pissing contest with you. Just stating a fact that when you turn an item into a live auction it's no longer for sale here. By benefitting the community you can only mean, free advertising that's bringing more watchers, and potential bidders to your sale. Hey, why not? I would've done it too. I honestly like your posts, as much as your items for sale (although we've never done business) you bring great items to the table on a weekly basis. Your a great contributor to the forum (far better than I am or ever will be) and I respect that. As a whole community I think the rule change is beneficial. It might cause your auctions to not go as high but considering it's how you put food on the table I hope it doesn't. Im just saying nobody is preventing you from selling on AZ or being the stand up contributor you are. It's just certain peoples selling tactics might have to be altered. I hope in the end it works out for you.

E-Bay Can Be Another Tool

I've beeen reading some of the postings on this topic and there's been points made by various AZ members but it all comes down to this.
E-Bay is an aucyion site which happens to include some buy it now listings from time to time but it's an auction site open to the universe.E-bay sells everything imaginable which by coincidence happens to include poolo merchandise.

AZ is not an auction vehicle but does alternatively compete wioth e-Bay on cue sale listings. If aseller wnats to mention that he has an item listed on e-bay and the seller offers the item at a reduced rate for forum members, then there's a tangible benefit that results for forum members. But an item should not be allowed to be broadcast, advertised or annouced on the forum as being listed on e-Bay only. The forum should not be a method for expanding the cue seller's opportunity to sell a cue etc. that's listed on e-Bay as free advertising. A seller pays e-Bay for a listing whether it sells or not....e-Bay gets ultimately compensated. It's a completely one-sided arrangement that doesn't benefit forum members but only the seller advertising the item for sale.

The forum needs to concentarte on matters exclusive to the forum and stop the infiltration of postings and listings that have turned this place into a giant flea market. People shouldn't be allowed to come onto the forum and post that they have something to trade for a cue and please contact them. This isn't a garage sale....I've seen everyhting from guns to furniture ...what's next, time share swapping? Let's get back to the basics....I'm a visitor and have to play by the rules....I'm a paid member and I ahve to play by the rules .....doesn't amtter....you must abide by the forum rules or get out....that simple. When you don't like the rules, become a paid memebr and see what opportunities might exist to propose changes or improvements but you shouldn't be allowed to do that without being a paid member. Advice is free and there's too many free loaders (non-paid) members on AZ who can sit on the sidelines and gripe but they don't have any equity or vested interest in how the forum operates or the overall role it plays. Paid members help support the continuewd availability of AZ to the general public and as such, shjould have more say and influence on the forum's services and general rules of operation but make no mistake...don't confuse things...as users or paid members the forum is not our property....we don't own or operate it and anyhtime we don'tlike the chnages or restrictions, it's our option to either abide and comply or quit by stoping to use AZ entirely.

That's my take....let's get some filters on these crazy postinbgs, control the excessive bumps, restrict this to pool merchandise only...not swappping a tractor for 2 dozen cues, and keep e-Bay out of the forum other than if the seller also lists the cue for outright sale on the forum and not just be allowed to mention his cue is for sale on e-bay or advertsie here on AZ but you can only buy it thru e-Bay...that's bunk. The forum is not intended to help e-bayers that just happen to have some pool related merchandise for sale to post their item on AZto increase their chance od selling it on e-Bay. The item has to be offerred for sale on both sites (e-Bay & AZ) but only if the item is a buy it now with a price or make offer but never lsit an e-bay item on the forum if it's just an open auction listing
on e-bay....that would be using the forum to promote e-Bay rather than actuyally try to sell the item thru the forum.

That's my take and by the way, I became a paid member the other day just so I could comment on this topic and not just be a freeloader with a jaundiced view from the sidelines.

Whoops I don't have more vCash than you now that I made my massive Shane/Earl bet. I felt like FatBoy(2) lugging that 3500 vCash to the betting window.

AZ makes you post up! Who'd a thunk it?

Just as a quick overview I'd say its running about 75/25% in favor of allowing eBay links . Maybe we should install the world's most boring (and meaningless because we, as members, have no actual power) poll?

I was very interested to see a member got insulted when he went to a For Sale thread and saw it was an eBay link. I mean, if you take that personally, can you imagine all the things you find in everyday life to put you on tilt? I mean if that insults you what does a parking lot door ding do to ya? I was just revealed to know it couldn't have been me insulting him like that (because he blocked me a long time ago).

What's the link?;)
I guess I could do a search, save you as a seller, you could pm it to me, or I could pay more attention.

You asking me to post an eBay link?

LOL

Is this a set up? You entrapping me?

If you put "Excellent SOUTHWEST SATIN PACIFIER Player Pool Cue" in your eBay search it ought to come up for you (Hope THAT doesn't insult anyone). Let me know if you can't find it and we will figure something out.

Thanks

Kevin

Is that Huebler in your avi?

Kevin, just having fun!

I found the cue, but I was trying to make the point that I never have know about it if I hadn't mucked through this thread.

The cue is one of Mr. Huebler's Custom Shop cues.

Was that yin/yang Huebler yours too?

There are a lot of things bothering me right now, but your Ebay links aren't one of them.
In fact, about the only time I check Ebay is when there is a link from AZ.
The problem is not the links to other sites, the problem is the increased activity overall.
AZ is too big for the old school way of doing business, and no matter how many new rules
we invoke, people will find ways to get around them or ignore them altogether.
Some people are posting for sale items like it's Craigslist, so in my opinion the Ebay links are the least of our problem.
With everyone fighting for real estate there should be a sub-section for links, but since there
are people who think it is their right to abuse the WFS, I don't think that band-aid fixes are going to work.
