Sandcastle's INCREDIBLE rebuilt tables by Advanced Billiard Solutions (ABS)-LOVE 'EM!

Since the take over of the pool room, I have been wanting to refresh the equipment throughout the room. The esthetics and ambiance has been brought up to my standards, two tables were sold off so that spacing between all tables was made to be 5 feet plus, the lighting has been brought up to par, the temperature has been well controlled for playing conditions, and the level of play and class of players is high, a separate room for alternative entertainment activities is being built to control noise levels, a pro shop with full cue repair services has been brought in, tournaments and leagues have been established and lots of money is given out each week. The one thing missing from the vision WAS the level of quality of the tables. I knew I was inheriting older equipment that had not been well maintained over the years before they were in my possession but they were once the best available. Previously owned by Steve Mizerak and used in The Four Seasons pool room, these tables once played great!

A few months back I almost went with getting all brand new Diamond Pro-Am tables to be the only pool room in the area to have all Diamonds. Unfortunately, that was not feasable for me to do financially so I had to look for other alternatives. I searched for the best table mechanics in the area in hopes that they would have a more feasible solution for me. I was scheduled with one of the best guys out of NY but he did not meet his promised date nor called to reschedule or anything. At this point, my tables were 4 months past due for being recovered at the least. I was waiting on everyone else but they didn't come through for me. I was very frustrated after all this but then found out that fate had it all planned out for me and the once beautiful tables in Sandcastle Billiards.

After one of my posts on here, I was reached out to and referred to ABS, Advanced Billiard Solutions that were based out of my own back yard. We got in touch with one another and set up a date to assess the room and what the tables needed. This time, a confirmation call was made before coming out for the job and everything was reiterated to one another as well. FINALLY I found some responsible businessmen! Steve Gephart was the first on the premises to re-level and recover 4 Gold Crown I's and assess their future needs along with assessing the needs of my Medalist tables. When those four tables were done, all my regular players filled them up every day all day and at times I even had a waiting list for players that wanted to play on them. They were playing better than they had in the past 10 years at least!

Phase 2 brought in Pat O'Donnell, Bob the Turk, and their helper in training, Oscar along with Steve Gephart once again. In just a three day period, they set up shop in Sandcastle Billiards and completely REBUILT all the rails on 4 of my Medalist tables. Many of my regular players and several during my weekly tournaments were seriously intrigued by the men while they were hard at work on the table rails. They completely rebuilt the sub rails, added brand new cushions, adjusted and standardized the pitch of the rails, the angle of the cut on the pockets, refaced the pockets, and recovered the now CUSTOM built tables with ABS rail systems. One of the four tables that have been rebuilt and actually REBORN is my premier one-pocket table. I have several great one-pocket players that frequent the establishment and battle it out for hours and hours on end - sometimes even days! The ALL NEW table 1, now has CUSTOM BUILT EXTENDED rails with pockets measuring a mere 3 & 7/8 inch, brand new Brunswick SUPER SPEED cushions and fresh Simonis HR cloth pulled so tight to the table that I can get 5 rails straight up and down the length of the table! EACH AND EVERY one of the tables that have been rebuilt, have been player tested and approved of with ENDLESS compliments on their playability! The consistency of the rails, the rolls, the speed of the bed, the cushions playing TRUE to diamond systems, you name it! There hasn't been a single thing found that hasn't been a positive feature of the table. Now on table 1, our super tight box one-pocket table, the extra measure of BLOCKING the table was done to ensure a perfectly flat and truly straight rolling table bed. My top one pocket players, A players and so forth slow rolled balls on it all day trying to find an imperfection and failed to do so. All that WAS found were a lot of wide open eyes in amazement in how true, how fast and how perfectly straight the table was playing all around.

Advanced Billiard Solutions has truly proven to me and my high level players that they are a few notches above the rest in knowing how to revitalize a table and make it play the best it possibly can or even better!

All things happen for a reason. I almost went with another company when I already had some of the best tables ever made. All I had to do was find the right people to bring them back to life and for some even beyond with an upgrade!

There are two more tables "slated" to be rebuilt and recovered in phase 3 as soon as our schedules allow. This will give me a great playing front half of the pool room which I use for regulars, action, tournaments and league play.

Phase 4 will be focused on blocking some other tables to match up to table #1's perfection as well as addressing a few other things on tables that haven't been touched yet.

I sincerely have to thank all the guys of ABS. Pat, Bob, Steve and Oscar - THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BRINGING MY TABLES BACK TO LIFE IN SUCH INCREDIBLE PLAYING CONDITIONS AND ALL! I'm inspired to play more myself now even.

I asked some of the players in my tournament last Tuesday what they thought of the tables and a couple of them said, "They are the BEST tables I've played on in a looong time!" I say, just wait till phase 4 comes into play!

Thank you guys so much for all you've done thus far and thank you in advance for our future endeavors. I see this will be a beautiful long lasting business relationship!

For those of you wondering, the cost efficiency and value of going with rebuilding your tables through ABS as opposed to buying new, is UNSURPASSED! Their dedication and passion for doing a perfect job is incredible. Their tooling methods and measurements are precise, their blocking and leveling techniques are flawless, their cloth stretching and wrapping is simply incredible, I can go on and on but MOST of all, their CHARACTER and ease of dealing with are something that I thought was lost to generations of past where businessmen were perfect GENTLEMEN and MORE than fair and REASONABLE in their pricing for all their hard work and meticulous craftsmanship. ABS is a true pleasure to deal with.

Thank you all once again guys and a big THANK YOU to the one who turned me to them in the first place! You know who you are!

Thank you for helping Sandcastle Billiards on the way in its quest to rise to be the BEST players' room in the area!

Wow! I'm gonna have to stop in and check em out. If ABS does the Ernesto style treatment on the rails & pockets, then these should be awesome playing, tight but fair, tables.

Great news, Sandman. Sandcastle is definitely one of the premier action/player rooms in the NJ/NYC metro area!

Ed, Thank you for the opportunity to showcase our skills. It is a relief to meet a room owner who cares about the customer.
Being a table mechanic is reward enough, getting some artistic license in a players room is priceless!! See you soon. By the way Sandcastle has a top notch cue repairman named Harry. He builds a good hitting cue and is real nice guy. Stop in and check out this room.

No, these guys don't do Ernesto type work, as they installed K55 cushions, and calibrated the rails to play perfect...as in they don't bank short or play slow off the cushions. Try getting 5 times the length of the table in banking the cue ball on an Ernesto table, you're lucky to get 4 times the lenght. These are east coast mechanics, not west coast;)

Glen;)

Bob, you and Pat, Steve, and Oscar did a very impressive job at the Sandcastle billiards. I talked to Ed today, he was very thankful things worked out the way they did...as I told him they would. I never recommend a mechanic that I don't have 100% confidants in to do the job;) I can't wait to get up in your area so I can spend some more time with you guys.:D

just ordered my table today from ABS and seeing this just makes the wait that much more agonizing (in a good way)!!!

My mouth is salivating. Sounds like the kind of place I would Kill for on Oahu. I would say best of luck with buiseness, however doen't think it could improve based on your comments. Congratulations. These are the kind of threads we need more of.

Very Happy to See These Mechanics Being Recognized...

Bob and Pat worked on my home table about a month ago and did an outstanding job. (I posted about it here).

Glad to see that they are bringing their talents to Sandcastle and that their efforts are being so well received. Kudos to Ed for putting in the money and effort to provide excellent playing conditions for his customers, and to these mechanics for the quality of their work.

Sandman's Commitment to the Player

As a regular at Sandcastle Billiards, I have watched Ed the Sandman persevere through various difficulties all with the aim of building the premier players' room in New Jersey. All of this in an economy in which pool rooms are closing all around, and if not closing, cutting back on refurbishing tables for fear of throwing good money after bad!

It takes a class act, and a real love of the game, to do that.

The redone tables play beautifully, the room is spacious, and it can't be doubted that Sandcastle is now the premium players' room in New Jersey....Amsterdam in NYC may edge out the Sandman's room at the moment (because of who plays there), but at least you can have a place to park your car here at the Sandcastle!

(By the way, if Ed is reading this, it seems as if Charlie Williams is looking for rooms in NJ to host one or another of the qualifiers for the Dragon Promotion 14.1 World Championships...you might want to contact him...it would be a great way to showcase the new setup.)

tupac and biggie all over again.

8 hours of table time for $10, that's awsome. Wish I was closer to you, I don't think I could justify commute from Oregon. Looks nice, thanks for sharing.

Looks like you got a great place. I would love to have this kind of pool hall in my neck of the woods.

Think so?...why would anyone install K66 cushions on tables designed for K55 cushions? That kind of work was never a trend on the east coast where the majority of GC's are located...I wonder why?;)

No Kockin

No east vs. west here. Mechanics like Ernesto have pioneered this trade and paved the way for others. I have been very fortunate to meet mechanics like Glenn Hancock and Mark Gregory. They have been willing to share there knowledge and experience with me. I hope to meet Ernesto along the way.

This is the coolest job ever! I get to wake up and work on pool tables every day. Every once in a while I get to meet a room owner like Ed who turns you loose on his tables.
I work with very good mechanics. We are 3 separate companies that work well together. Each of us has a specialty and collectively produce well tuned table. Mark, Glenn and Ernesto have been producing the kind of work for years.
