During last night's WPBA match between Jennifer Chen and Sarah Ellerby, Jennifer Chen called a foul on Sarah Ellerby and Sarah denied any wrongdoing. (They were two tables deep from the spectators and with all the other matches going on, it didn't catch my attention until the argument started) The tournament director intervened and after ruling in Jennifer's favor, decided to let play continue.
About ten minutes later, during a break in the same match, as the players were walking past each other in the hallway, Sarah allegedly gave Jennifer a hard elbow. Apparently there was a witness who gave his cell number and agreed to vouch for Jennifer if needed.
Sarah went on to win the match against Jennifer and then won against Monica Webb to make it to today's finals. At the end of the matches last night, many of the players were sympathizing with Jennifer and believed that if Sarah commited either alleged infraction, Sarah should be disqualified and the matches she won after the alleged infractions should be replayed.
My personal view is that as bad as this alleged behavior was, as far as replaying any matches, once you get back on the table and start playing again, it's over. The ruling on the field stands.
But especially if anything Jennifer is saying is backed up on tape, what do you do now?
Go Kelly!
