Sarah Rousey comments on the Women's Worlds

Thank you all for reading my blog. I will clear things up here. I didn't post it to get a huge reaction or sympathy. I felt it was right to do that because I was sponsored by people all over the world rather than one single sponsor. I feel that everyone has a right to know. I was wrong in not sending Charlie a message before posting, I admit that. I have since done so but I have not seen him around to talk to him. Concerns by myself and other players were said to many, many people. I do not regret speaking my mind.

As for Jay and his comments, thanks Jay for explaining what you see. Tomorrow I will take pictures that show what the sunlight does to the players seated facing the window half of the dome. I never said that there were not lights over the table. I said that the lights in the early rounds the first day were not turned on and we were using the daylight. As for the table quality compared to last week, I disagree and so do many others. We brought those concerns to those in charge, including you at the players meeting. We were assured they would be fixed. I did say that it was leaking on the table, that was true and you did handle it. It was also leaking all around the tables...that is something that is not a promoter problem. It is a brand new venue. I also understand the little dig that you had there...I played horribly so I will pass on my TV time this year since I didn't make it to the elimination rounds. Thank you for pointing out that I could have had my turn.

Keep in mind, I understand the business side of things as well. I understand that you have to get sponsors and you have to make money back and the way to do that is to promote the pretty girls. I have no problem with that at all at any tournament other than one deemed a world championship. But hey, whatever works. The stands are filled each day so that is a good thing.

As for who said their friends are having a great time, I agree, I'm having a great time in the Philippines since the day I got here. It is cool to meet people from other countries and learn about what it is like for them there.

I am not mad at the girls that were mentioned. I met Zarah and she is a very nice, humble, smart person. She is taking advantage of an opportunity and I don't blame her. I don't expect them to say no to such an opportunity because they feel they don't deserve it.

As for the person that said perhaps or that I am fat and ugly and jealous. Very funny sir. We each have our own opinion and I have never claimed to be beautiful, thin, or anything else. The only thing I have ever claimed is to be a pool player that wishes to be treated as an equal to the men and only seen as a pool player. Unfortunately, it is questionable if that will happen.

I am happy that someone decided to put on this type of tournament. I just wish that more effort was put into things besides setting television records and firsts. I have to say the TV area is very nice with a lot of seating for spectators including many levels of the mall looking down. The only complaint I have heard is of the floor being a bit slippery and it is a little bit humid. So not all things are bad.

As I warned on my blog, that was a rant and as I said, the forums have been my sponsor to this event and I am sorry that I have played awful and not represented well. I am disgusted by that as well, don't worry.

Thank you again for the support and sorry if I offended anyone. If you feel this is unprofessional, sorry, but I would rather tell the truth. If it ruins my 'career' as a pool player, then I guess it wasn't meant to be. Like I said, we should be treated as pool players, not men or women.

Sarah

Excellent blog and an excellent post, thank you for sharing what happened to you.
Best of luck in the future, and remember karma,
you have the good kind, others that are shady have the bad kind.

lots of hugs

Some of us are still in dark ages...since the mid 60's women in swimsuits have been on the cover of sports illustrated....hmmmmm I wonder why??

Only since the 60's, it's been since the 20's. But this has nothing to do with the tread so I will
leave it here.

How does she hurt herself? This is the very first event that Dragon Promotions has done for women that is WPA sanctioned and is NOT a small field handpicked exhibition. And in those events the women who were invited were all "pretty".

Or perhaps she won't receive invites to events like the Predator 10 Ball and the 14.1 events that DP does. Which is a big "so what" because Sarah stands little chance to cash in those events anyway and she knows it. If she were invited then she is going for the experience and competitive spirit that she has knowing that she is probably donating.

She should speak out if she feels ill-treated or feels that things aren't being addressed properly.

I would LOVE to see DP try to keep her out of future WPA sanctioned events that she has a right to participate in based on her ranking. Nothing like stirring up the ire of her sponsors who happen to be "the general die hard pool fans" of this forum.

John, as I think we all know, and as I think Sarah's own blog shows, you don't have to be barred from a tournament(s) to see discrepancies in how players are treated at certain events.

Sure, she should continue to speak out. Let's all see how that works out for her.

Do you really think Sarah would post that and then when the next DP invitational comes along be dumbfounded when she got no invite? This was her way of saying exactly what she thought of the DP events and I am sure she is fully aware that she has separated herself from that organization. Pretty much the whole point of the post IMO.

Surprised? hmmm, no. Of course not.

But nonetheless, perhaps what she's accomplished is not the bestest situation to have created for yourself, if you're a professional pool player ;-)

Lou Figueroa

I know Sarah, not well but well enough, and she is a very intelligent woman and definitely HAS thought this out beforehand. She is fully aware of the consequences.

I have already seen Sarah snubbed, first hand, at previous events because of her views about DP or their view about her. I don't know the details really but I've seen it. In that instance the event organizers worked it out and still included her in the event. There are enough people in the industry who support her that I can guarantee you she won't be snubbed from ALL DP events. Maybe the small invitational ones but not all of them.

To my knowledge, for all events like this where the top WPBA players are invited all of those invitations are required to go thru the WPBA. Tournament promoters have to contact the WPBA directly and THEY go down their list inviting their top ranked players. I am confident that Sarah will remain one of those top players and will thus be invited to many of these types of events in the future.

That's all well and good, and I hope you're right.

Let me put my point another way: it's never good policy to insult the crocodiles, when you gotta swim in their river :-)

Well then that's just plain sad. If it's always primarily about a$$ kissing, pool will never get anywhere.

Sarah, you're the sh!t and I admire you even more than I did before for speaking your mind.

I am confused Lou,
Isn't Sarah already a Professional Pool player? Kissing ass with DP to ensure a professional career shouldn't be a requirement.

And shouldn't the promoters show a certain amount of respect for the product they are promoting?

47 players in a world championship with x number of qualifier winners and x number of promoter invites is very questionable for a World Championship.

5 tables? and a race to five? Come on Lou, who isn't being the professional here?

No one said anything about "kissing ass." To me, it's more a question of choosing your words, venue, and battles a bit more wisely, given the state of professional pool and the limited opportunities that currently exist along that career path. You can effectively make your point and not get near anyone's butt cheeks :-)

And, promoters *should* do a lot of things. But unfortunately, when it comes to pool, generally speaking they have a ways to go. I hope that's not news to anyone here.

Or you can learn how to build a bridge or move to a different river.

A man (or woman in this case) has to know their limitations. Sarah is IMO hitting the wall that most pro pool players hit, male or female. Pro pool sucks and it sucks because of small time hustlers trying to make a buck off the backs of the players. DP is just the latest incarnation of Don Mackey. Pro pool sucks so bad that the players can't financially afford to protest in mass to get favorable action from the promoters. Instead every squirrel is just out there trying to get their nut..... Mens or womens pool, nothing will change until there is a unified voice.

Sarah, oh shortest of short ones, I liked the blog entry but take a look at JCIN's new blog when you get a chance. IMO, if you would have used a few carefully placed mf'ers like Justin it would have been much better! LOL How is the rat doing? Any action for the jap?

oh yeah, it was great. We all admired, respected, appreciated, and enjoyed it. I'm sure CW will take it all to heart and pool will now really go somewhere :-)

But you know, it doesn't have to be black and white: between ranting (I think that was her word) and ass-kissing (your words), there is a huge gigantic middle ground filled with varying shades of grey in between.

didn't anyone else
ever have the big box

You have absolutely no clue what your talking about...The first issue of sports illustrated was published in 1950's not in the 1920's, and the first swimsuit issue was in the 1960's not the 1920's, and yes my comment was a reply to your rediculous (sp) remark because it's so old school it makes me laugh..sex sells

I am surprized that charlie has not got a swimsuit
ring game happening, I am sure that is next.

1st impressions

Well let me say that I have only met Sarah once at the Carolina open
last year .I was doing the live stream of the event and had the pleasure
meeting her and alot of others over those few days .I have been a small
business owner for the last 12-14 yrs and have had to develop very keen
people skills and can tell you alot about most people when I 1st meet them.
Sarah sat and talked to me for a while when Jason was playing his matches
and I can tell you she is not the type to gripe and complain . So if she was
motivated to write what she did I feel its valid . I even (joking) called her
a cougar for being older than Jason ....she laughed and thought it was great
and could of took it wrong being I just met her .Pool needs more like Sarah
you go girl !!! I only wish you would of defeated all the fru fru princeses
at the table .

IMO this post would do much better if it were all by it self rather than embedded in a DP/CW thread.

BigTruck, please give your post the respect it deserves and post it in the main forum away from DP and CW.

thanks

The only way anyone gets anywhere with CW is if you're willing to put on the proverbial knee pads. He's got his players and he sets them up to look as good as possible. I'm not even going to get into the crap he tried to pull at the SBE with the woman's invitational (not to mention the fiasco last year that led to fisticuffs between him and Corey).

All I can say is that people need to stop participating in his events. If he can't draw any names, he won't have a tournament to put on.

Not participating in future events as a way to make a point is a whole different kettle of fish.

actions do speak louder
than words :-)

Man, I think we're going to have to make sure that Corey is brought to any of CW and DP's events from now on in case of stupid stuff happenings.

SMACK!
