Sbe pro arena = joke

CJ did do something about it TWICE...

He started up a nice tour and put a ton of money in pool.

Just one time I would like to see players do something to improve their own situation instead of come up with lists of shit for other people to do for them.

As long as the majority of players just want to show up, get the added money and leave then they are going to be playing under whatever conditions the promoter decides he can afford. Go get some money, make your events the way you think they should be. Constantly talking about how things should be sounds like a teenager complaining to his parents that they bought him a used car instead of a new one.

And I respect him for that. Instead of always saying how bad everyone else is at doing things why doesnt he do something ? He has done it in the past so why not do something now?

Organize a player group that will only play events with refs, X amount of guaranteed added money and whatever other things are deemed to be "whats wrong with pool". Whats that you say? Its not his job? Why should he ? Good questions and valid arguments. But if someone doesn't offer solutions when they ***** then they are just *****ing. Which is cool. Just don't expect to be taken seriously.

Perfect example of someone putting their time and money where their mouth are is going on right now at the SBE. The 14.1 contest that a couple guys started on a shoe string that has grown into something lots of players and fans enjoy. Its possible. Its hard ass work but its possible. Another example is forum member Bob Jewett and what he did for years at the Derby with 14.1.

Pat Fleming has been doing it forever with his 8 Ball events and now the Make It Happen events. He had an idea on how something should be done and he did it. Not everyone thinks everything is perfect in any event but when someone actually puts forth the time, money and effort to create something instead of talk about it then things move forward.

People outside the industry cant be expected to change things. The ones inside the industry should be expected to. So instead of sharpshooting from the sidelines I think it makes more sense to put in the work and effort to do things how you think they should be done and see if you are right.

There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism. Honest evaluations of of the good and bad are how things improve. However when its always pointing out what everyone else is doing wrong it tilts the shit out of me.

Anybody name the song this is mocking? I bet MIKEY FROST can. Too bad you can't "tag" people like FB. Maybe in the future :)

Easily, I don't even have to think about this one. It's just Ludacris if they don't get it

They were doing player introductions today. Maybe some pictures when I unwind a little.

The damage is so severe that it's not that easy of a venture right now.

Third time's a charm isn't it, T? ;)

I come from an era that supplied the things you needed as a Pro for a match. This included towels, powder, water, chalk, a table, a referee, and 10 pool balls. They had adequate lighting and ran the Pro tournaments in the Penthouse of the Riviera, and it was a fantastic show with Efren, Sigel, Rempe, Archer, Strickland, Reid, Hopkins, Hall, Lebron, Crane/Johnson, Davenport, Pierce, Hatch, Mizerak, West, Morris, Kennedy, etc. and 25 -50k added money. 8 Events a year were on ESPN and they showed on a real TV screen .

Now it's different, and like I said if there's money issues I understand dropping the prize fund down to 50%. What I don't understand is not announcing the players of today, just out of respect.

They had to do a lot to get where they're at and sometimes it's just nice to hear your name announced, and that you were on the Mosconi Cup, or won a major tournament or that you are just a fun guy to watch because you break really well, or can draw your ball 4 rails.....there's something nice and respectful that can be said about any player.

I did start my own tour in 96 and the very first tournament Earl Strickland won the Million Dollar Challenge which paid him, to this day the largest prize in the history of the sport. I wrote him a personal check for $50,000 at the end of the tournament, after I won the tournament. By the way, three of those matches were televised and I'm going to release two of them in the next couple of months. They are very well done TV presentations with Jimmy "Pretty Boy Floyd" Mataya doing the commentary. These shows played three times for a total of 9 airings.

In the next 4 years our new Tour (the PCA working with the WPBA) did over 70 shows for ESPN and put an additional $1,200,000 in the pockets of the players. I won $88,000 for winning the ESPN World Championships the first year (along with the Doubles World Championships with Lori Jon and the Battle of the Sexes against Vivian Villareal with 3.8 Million People watching). Each of our ESPN shows averaged over ONE MILLION VIEWERS.

Complaining about the state of pool today? I guess you could say stating the facts about tournaments is complaining, I'm not sure how to "sugar coat" not having powder, towels, water, decent environment, ESPN, and the players matches not being announced, it just "is what it is".

I had the choice to not play again under these circumstances and chose that option, so in that respect it was the correct decision, and if all the players chose not to play things might actually be better now, who knows, they certainly couldn't be any worse. Every tournament is a losing proposition for the players, only 20% of them make their expenses back. And with no potential Television coverage there's little chance for sponsorship above and beyond just getting expenses paid.

I will use every resource to help professional pool that I have, this is something I've done before and I will do again. The damage is so severe that it's not that easy of a venture right now. I have trouble believing how it plummeted so far, so fast and is continuing to be treated like a third rate business with only a few people profiting and the rest starving.

If something does happen that's positive for the professional players it's going to make certain people very uneasy, whether I'm involved or not. Even this messed up model of a professional sport has those that are heavily invested in it remaining the same ......I have no opinion about these people, I doubt if I even know them, the only thing I want to see before I die is RESPECT RESTORED towards the Game and the players that have dedicated themselves to playing the Game at the highest level possible.

When the business people involved with their departments (if there even are any) are at the same level as the players we will not be in this situation. The Game is determined to shine again, it's just a matter of time.

Not surprised

I have been to the SBE the last couple of years and i couldnt make it this year. I tuned in to watch the pro 10 ball event. I watched Efrens match with Thorston. I wasnt surprised to see that there were fold up chairs, no skirting on the tables.
They are also playing on the concrete floors. These Professional Players deserve more than this. I understand Mr. Hopkins has a lot going on with putting all of this together. All of the planning of this event started many months ago. Being a pro player himself, it wouldnt be a lot more to make the venue itself look more professional.
Wooden fold up tables look a lot better with fabric skirting taped on. Nice comfortable player chairs , maybe the one Diamond builds, They would get exposure also. Come on Allen, Get it right next year. It is a great event . Hope im there next year. Great matches going on. Thanks for the stream.

What happened to the tour you started CJ why isnt it still running? Maybe the tournament directers are having a hard time getting funding and they dont want to spend money on the little things like supplying towels and powder because most people do supply their own. I think everyone would love to see pool be on top of the world but it will take alot of work and maybe Justin is right its time the "PROS" take it by the hand and lead the game out of the ashes and setup a new tour with maybe a big tournament every month or two. I would support a tour run by players and buy ppv feeds.

There's not playing on concrete floors...they do have carpet.

It was much better today. Better crowd I guess. Tournament director was more in controll of the situation.. The match of the day was hatch playing the teenage kid Sergio reva (I think that's right). He took hatch three sets and the match went almost 5 hours!!! Hatch finally beat him in the end. These races to 8 best out of three are BRUTAL!

it's the servers job at a restaurant to buy the silverware, glassware, and napkins.

Do you really think it's the tournament directors decision and/or obligation to supply water and towels? That's like saying it's the servers job at a restaurant to buy the silverware, glassware, and napkins.

I will explain why I got out of professional pool when the time is appropriate, it may be a sensitive issue and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

We're not wanting to chase "water under the bridge," it serves no purpose. The research and development part of our work is nearing completion, it's clear to me what needs to be done, and where the resistance is coming from. 'The Game is the Teacher'

I am interesting in why you made the decision. When the time is right, I'll be reading!

In the future, I must finish my first cup of Pleasant Morning Buzz before I post. :o

lol, it was just too good to pass up.

Now then, back to the argument:

"Pros should be treated like pros." Pros say, "yes, always."

"Pros should act like pros." Pros say, "hey everybody has a bad day and I have a right to be a poopy pants whenever I wanna! Neener Neener!".

Solved. Next topic.

Awesome

Wasn't box seats at the Knicks, but it was adequate seating, great view of best players in world and its as noisy as a pool hall would be during any tournament, anywhere. We don't play tennis or golf. Not sure what that matters. It is what it is, for a no-cost, no assigned seat venue with people coming and going I would say it was on the quieter side.

I think Allen & co. do an awesome job, running a tournament for almost two decades, something should be said about that.

Most likely it will require an outside body to come in and run the pro side independently; charge for seats, added money, sponsors, streaming, etc.
