Sbe pro arena = joke

They need a reality TV show involving pool. The Ultimate Fighter put the UFC and MMA on the map and brought them back for a mostly assured bankruptcy. That one reality TV show salvaged the entire sport for the US market. We need an Ultimate Fighter for pool. Take 16 aspiring professionals and throw them in a house to live together for a month while training on teams under expert coaches, and have them match up weekly in races to stay in the house and win the show. Just an idea. I'll volunteer for the cast.:thumbup:

AFAIK, 3 cushions has always been in a separate and more quieter room. The game seems more upscale compared to pool.

I appreciate Mr Allen Hopkins making this year's Pro Event free, instead of paying a ticket for either afternoon or morning session as in past years. More money leftover so I can spend on both vendors and food. Since some of us are used to paying for this event, I wonder for next year if Allen would consider accommodating both type of customers; free and those who are willing to pay?

Installing TV/Projector screen by the food vendor could help keep the pro arena from being labelled a food court. Premium or reserve seating for those who are willing to pay for their spot. Since seating was free, I thought it was it was very inconsiderate some people acted as if it was reserve seating, and preventing others from sitting.

Nothing i hate more than someone having his seat saved for hours. If im leaving for more than 5 -10 min at most- i just give it up and hope for the best.

It isnt all about you buddy. Not you hunter the jerk saving his seat all day.

For example, if Tiger Woods suddenly had a revelation that pool was his calling and destiny and he had to be involved every day with professional pool it would make a huge difference. Because if Tiger was involved, then Michael Jordan would get involved, then hundreds of other celebrities.

I have to disagree with this statement. It seems that with "Pool' nothing works as expected as with other sports. Tiger Woods or any other top sports celebrity would have to be "highly proficient" at their new sport/venture to attract new spectators, fans, or investors into our sport. If they do not "exceed' whom will want to watch them missing balls that many people deem "easy"?

For some reason, in the past years, we have not been able to decifer what is the best formula to make a "significant change' with our sport.

I may be a pessimist, but I just don't see any future in "sparking interest" to elevate our sport to another level.

3 weekends ago me and 2 top pro's and 2 other pool "guys" spent 2 days shooting a promo video for a reality show, we did some in a private setting and some at Hardtimes in Bellflower. I cant say anything else about it, well i will say this I was a steak horse one of the $$ guys, I wasnt a player :( , I'm not sure how its going yet as they have to edit the 17 hours down to 3 minutes.

We juiced it up with woofing and tossing around $$, some of it was real some staged. I hope it gets picked up, not for my sake but for pool. I got called by one of the players at 12:30 AM "What are you doing?" "going to bed" I replied, next day i was there(couldn't refuse the offer), I got called out of the clear blue sky, Kinda cool.

I didnt say anything about it before, was going to wait to see how it goes, but since it was shot in public, I'll talk a little-cant name names tho. Both players are top guys who are among the elite players, not JA he isnt involved with this thing yet, if it goes I'd recommend him and Mike Sigel as they would be good in the show IMO, honestly i'm not to keen on doing it, if I was asked i'd do a couple episodes and fade out. I dont feel I can offer much to the show, if I actually did then i'd do it for pool, not me. sure i get shit here for showing off, but thats here, being on TV aint my bag at all, i never want to be famous, I'm well known in pool and that I like as I have friends all over the world-thats what i like. But outside of pool i like to lay low.

I was truly honored to be asked by who asked me, someday i;ll say who as it was a very cool thing. And because of who it was I had to say "yes i'll be there" as he was there for me in a BIG WAY when i was sick at the Derby and he drove for 2 hours in bad weather to get my prescriptions filled. Thats a solid friend. There are great people in pool.

Back to the show, yes your right about a show and yes I hope it goes, the guys who shot the video were pro's, the director knew what he wanted and held it together very good. So there is a chance it might fly.

best,

Hollywood Eric  HAHA, just kidding.

I'm not big on "reality shows," but that's a damn good idea.

what we really need is a Poolmania like WWF does throw the top 24 players in the cage and who ever is the last man standing wins. My $$$ is on Denis Hatch as the last man standing and Hilbilly a close 2nd and larry nevel in 3rd, thats my tri-fecta bet on the cage fight. Parika and Hunter Lombardo are the first to go, (sorry Hunter, you know i respet you a ton but cage fighting dont seem to be your bag) now if they let me in as a alternate since i'm no pro player I can promis everyone this, I'd be the first one to lose-same as in pool, Gosh I suck.....:o

i'm just being silly its late and i need to sleep, but Big D is the favorite, he is one tuff guy, wow.

I'd like to see Chip Klein in that line-up

I'm betting on Rodney Morris being one of those guys. He was one of the pros (well...many pros) in that area at the time and he has a ton of personality.

I'm willing to bet Earl Strickland wasn't one of those guys, but he should be. That guy could be the star of his own reality show.

Darren with his ex-pro boxer status might give Hatch a run for his money... Boxers don't fare well against wrestlers, so my money is on whoever has the most wrestling experience. Hell, a decent high school wrestler will neutralize and beat some of the best boxers in the world...

Pro Pool isnt a viable business, nobody is going to post up the millions it would take to get it off the ground ...

Capital influxes rarely fix major business problems, so no, putting millions into pool would be like blowing smoke in the wind. ...

But Bonus Ball is in the process of investing those millions. Did you forget them, or are you already counting them out?

The last I heard the number was much lower than a million dollars, however, they are taking a considerable gamble. I did say "rarely" so I do "real eyes" there are always exceptions and I hope Bonus Ball is successful for the players. "Fat Boy" and I have both expressed our concerns directly to the Bonus Ball leadership that Las Vegas is a tough location to compete with entertainment when you're away the strip.

I will make the same offer to Bonus Ball as I would anyone that may need some consulting guidance from my group in Dallas. We won't charge unless we provide a calculable increase in their revenue or add value in any way.

We would really like to see them win because it makes what we're doing that much more synergistic for the future of pool. We want everyone to succeed preferably all at once. 'Play with Class, the Game is the Teacher'

Have Alex be in a cage & watch him come out on top as he will have privately formed a faction like the NWO & be its leader with the hired muscle to make sure he comes out on top. Shane could be the "face" that tries to fight him off in a prolonged story.

you can't call yourself a "pessimist" unless you take a moment to gather all the info

This is a ridiculous example, but you understand what I"m saying. Games are all boring to watch, some are just branded so well now we forget that we are watching the players, not the games. Baseball is a prime example of an extremely boring game that's extremely popular, it's the national pass time for goodness sake.

Why didn't you copy the part of my post that said "'this is a ridiculous example"? I was making a point, but it was not about "Tiger" at all, it was about "people in general".....and this would be tough to argue.

funny stuff....thanks.

Next time try to read the whole post before singling out something to "disagree with".....you shouldn't call yourself a "pessimist" (you may actually be an optimist and not "real eyes" it;)) unless you take a moment to gather all the information available to you. Apparently you didn't do this here, maybe you do this in your regular life, I would sincerely hope so. It was hilarious though. 'Play with Class, the Game is the Teacher'

The outlay has to be much higher than a million dollars: costs for the arena and equipment + salaries already paid during the delay + salaries for 36 players for 26 weeks for the regular season + salaries for the playoffs + performance bonuses + miscellaneous operating expenses.

I have no idea what the revenues will be during the first season to help defray the expenses. And if BB fails, I imagine the building could be sold to recoup some of that outlay.

But it's a sizeable financial undertaking. Perhaps the backers are wealthy enough that it is a rather insignificant venture to them; I don't know. In any case, it'll certainly be interesting to see how it goes.

I hear people talk about football all the time, but I never hear them talk about the football....they talk about the players and what they did or didn't do.....pool will be the same way. 'The Game will be the Teacher, but the characters will make the show'.

no they are not out(far as I know) and your rite they have thrown big money at a "Cue Sport" not any traditional game. They are in the process of creating a whole new thing. Which is why I was talking around them and their effort. I was speaking of established games in pool and how difficult it would be to resurrect one of them for a pro tour.

Perhaps there in lies the answer a totally new game, and out of the box thinking, BB has done that and perhaps that will work. Sure hope so.

what the "average, everyday" person likes about pool

Your're on the right track I believe. We used a "think tank" of 1000 people to find out what the "average, everyday" person likes about pool and the answers were surprising. 'The Game is the Teacher'

thats a true statement, i hope that think tank is on the $, they should be from what you said,

factors increased the desirability of pocket billiards from 2% all the way up to 80%

thats a true statement, i hope that think tank is on the $, they should be from what you said,

The most important information I got out of it was regarding what people really like about pool. It's not the Game, it's the "underbelly" of the Game. This corrected what I thought about how the Game needed to be "improved", basically the general public wouldn't watch it no matter how much money was involved and that surprised me. There was things they really liked about pool , so that was a relief, it's just not what we would commonly think.

I've heard there's a group doing a reality TV show with a "Kentucky Boy" that may be on to the right formula. There is some unusual things they probably should be aware of though, but at least someone is on the "right track".

The best thing that could happen is if everyone in the pool world of streaming video followed suit. We need competition to push pool into the main stream as soon as possible. I don't care who does it best as long as everybody's doing it. There''s power in numbers pursuing the same outcome, and more competition will create a better final product. imo

One combination of factors (from the Think Tank) increased the desirability of pocket billiards from 2% all the way up to 80% to the viewers. This is what's encouraged me to get back involved, there is a solution, and {of course} in life there always is. 'The Game is the Teacher'
