SBE updates

The only reason most of the pro's still show up is because all of their sponsors have booths & want them there. The amateur singles event takes in between 80 -100k each year & pays out half of that.

Just wanted to take a moment to post a pic of Rodney playing on the Diamond tables with Simonis cloth and Aramith Tournament Balls (box under table) with dotted Cue Ball, as we advertised.

I addressed a few of his concerns on his facebook post, which appears in this thread, if anyone wants to read it.

Hope the rest of you enjoy the show!

That makes sense. Darren and Mika were also going off about the added money and table conditions.

Mika posted about it being a silly event because they have morning matches on the winners side and called it "pro" ten ball.

Darren missed his second match in the 10 ball and so he forfeited his loser side match and is out.

I usually refrain from these pros griping threads but truthfully this does get kinda old. Everyone complains not enough money to be made - well here's a chance to make some money???? Then there are the people mad because the promoter actually makes some money??? He should make money, it's his business. Would it be better if no one made any money and all those fans didn't get to experience a great event like SBE? I can pretty much garuntee if one of these players complaining about the added money were to own an event such as this it would be a totally different story. They would put in all the time and effort and give every last cent back right? Come on.

I think we ALL are lucky to have an event like SBE. It's great for the fans, it's great as a consumer / spectator. It's an experience everyone should absolutely do at least once. Then the morning match thing - that really takes the cake. This is supposed to be a job for these pros and GOD FORBID if your job requires you to come in at 9:00 am instead of 9:00pm. Most of the world needs to be at their job at 9:00am and I don't see that as unreasonable. Now they may say we'll he had a match last night. Ok, but without knowing the specifics I'd bet that if he was to go back to hotel after said match instead of hanging out or getting in action there would have been time for AT LEAST 6 hours sleep? Someone in the know can correct me if I'm wrong please.

I remember years ago I played in my first big regional type tournament . First day was eliminations and everyone who made it to the second day was in the money. This was the first time I had ever made it into the money in a tournament with the number and caliber of players in it. I was so jubilant that I had made it into the money I partied hard after the first day. I too overslept and forfeited. Oh well, my fault not the tournaments.

I think one thing is lost on a lot of folks - it's that pool players are there for one reason and one reason only, for us the fans and for the amateurs that make up the bulk of the pool playing community. It's just like the NFL, NBA, or any other pro sport. The compensation may not be the same but these events are put on for the fans to come and watch , plain and simple.

I don't see any dots on the cue ball.

I saw one dot, for sure...might be the cue ball used at the DCC...
....Cyclop.....but I thought it was a good ball....

...so did Alex....

I guess the players gripe is they are using an odd cue ball when it was advertised as having a dotted cue ball (measle ball). If they aren't using the measle ball then the players should be upset because it was advertised as such and players do practice the game on equipment and practice with the ball set they will be using at a tournament.

Umm, you just said we advertised a "dotted Cue Ball".

We didn't advertise the Measle Ball. They are different things, and we were careful not to say the "Measle Ball" since that is what it is clearly identified as.

Yes dotted cue ball usually equates to pool players as the measle ball. What cue ball did they use?
For the masses wondering what a dotted cue ball looks like and Allen Jr. just click this link. http://images.lmgtfy.com/?q=dotted+cue+ball

Does not belie the poster....although a bit misleading.

Well if they are using this new Cyclop DOT cue ball then that makes no sense since it isn't a match for Aramith balls. Why not just use all Cyclop balls or Aramith set with an Aramith cue ball? Always keep the players on their toes I guess. haha

I'm sure that pleases his sponsor and his fans who showed up to watch him play

The most likely explanation is that Diamond wanted to use SBE to promote its new 'dotted cue ball', and Aramith being a big part of SBE and the pool world also wanted their balls used.

Thus the mismatched sets.

The sponsors are happy, the players are pissed.

The flyer said aramith tournament with dotted cue ball. It didn't specify which one but I would have assumed measles

Sylvain didn't seem to mind the cue ball.

I might've had a little trouble playing with the original Cyclop cue ball....
...I don't like being stared at....

Pretty soon the players will need a microscope to read the fine print on tournament posters and promoters web sites and a lawyer to help sort out what it says and doesn't say.

I was always blaming the players for just about everything bad that happened in pool, but lately I find some promoters need to get out of the tournament business. Most people say the players and fans NEED the promoters. I say, get rid of them all and watch the players get off their asses and run and stream their own tournaments. Johnnyt
