I was browsing fleabay and stumbled upon this listing. I normally right click then hit "back" to navigate faster. There is some kind of java applet that does not allow right clicks, making picture theft impossible (at least for the normal user).
It makes it a bit harder to navigate the site, but maybe it will cut down on virtual cue theft.

That would at least be a start. This copy cat stuff is getting ridiculous. The image hosting company has disabled the ability to easily copy the photo. I wish E-Bay would do the same.

I just found another today, a short auction on a Barry Szamboti from the U.K. - by a 1 feedback seller - I am pretty sure I've seen these photos before.

I actually sold an expensive one of a kind art cue once and some copycat guy ran the photos a few weeks later in an ad - the guy who bought my cue was furious, thinking there was another one!

It's still really easy to copy the photo. The easiest way is to click "left click" and drag the photo onto your desktop. This works in Internet Explorer and Firefox. Also, instead of right clicking, now you can just go to edit then view page source and get the source info for the pic.

The only way I can think is to imbed the photos into a shockwave slideshow. Then the individual images cannot be seperated easily.

can just turn off java script in your browser and copy away

its not as easy as one may think. For one, every keyboard has a print screen button which will create a screenshot of whatever you currently have on your screen. Though it is possible to disable keys from being used within a window, there are ways around that.

Copying from a browser can't be stopped

As an Internet professional, I can tell you that copying from a browser can not be stopped, only made more difficult.

By definition, HTML is displayed by your computer - not from the server.

Shockwave, Flash or similar, would make it much more difficult, but not everyone has Shockwave installed.

Someone who spends a few hours playing with easily obtainable free tools can learn to slice the images out of anything in minutes.

End result - If the user can see it, the user can grab it.

My favorite secutiry concept:
Door locks aren't designed to keep out the dishonest, just to make those on the edge stay honest.

The gentlemen with the screenname "IUSEDTOBERICH" puts his name across every photo in text.

Yes I do.... And I STILL had someone copy my pictures a few weeks back to start their own auction. My user name across the middle of every picture didn't phase them one bit. lol.

I agree,,,I was able to copy and save the photo another way,,,,but the rest of the world will just have to find out on their own,,,one man makes it harder to copy,,,thieves just get smarter/more sophisticated.......JMHO

How do these scams work? If I am the winning bidder and pay by Pay Pal and do not get my cue what happens?

Do I get my money back?

Does the seller get paid?

Does the seller claim that it was lost in shipment?

The scammer first discovers, by deceit, an ebay user's password.

They almost always request payment by cashiers check or money order.

99.99% of the time, no.

Yep

Since they are not actually the owner of the ebay account, they just move on to the next assumed identity.

There are all kinds of ways. Very few would take paypal. You would pay by cashier's check or bank transfer and never hear from them again. Usually they make deals outside of e-Bay once you've made contact.

Many times you are just being scammed in other ways. For example, they send you an invoice by paypal or some other way with a button "pay now" which takes you to a fraudulent site payment site (that looks exactly like the real deal). You sign in and now they have your credit card info or paypal info and and password. They sign into your account, change the password and start buying things on the internet though your account , transferring funds, etc.

Some scammers actually stole our mail, ordered expensive stuff from Neiman-Markus overnight UPS charged to my wife's credit card, then waited outside outside our house for the UPS truck and signed for the goods!

A lot of good a class action will do.you know she has nothing and people like that will never have anything. You will have a lien on nothing but hopefully she will go to jail.

the Domino's franchisee hired her and did not get her bonded,,,I've tried, but can't convince the guy to contact all former employees and alert them,,,my child didn't know this was done to her for two years after the fact,,,then a collection agency started calling and threatening her she,,, had never applied for a charge card before, nor had a phone in her name,,,this idiot stole several other ID's prior to this,,,the guy's hiring practices are too lax, especially with people in a "trust' type position,,,JMHO

Easier to copy yet.

Left click ( hold it down ) and drag.

Once it is highlighted, ctrl + C , this will copy whatever you highlight.

Open word or photoshop or whatever program and hit ctrl + V and it will paste the image ( or whatever. )

Disabling the right click is not going to fool anyone who wants that picture. Just annoys the people who like to navigate that way :)
