I found a beautiful Schon cue in a local pawn shop. It has 6 long points that lookto be boxed. the butt lookes to have about 36 peices of ivory with some type of barrs, butt cap looks like ivory (not sure) it comes with 2 shafts. Thay tell it is a Schon ltd, the problum is looking on the web i cant find it anywhere, knot even in the arcives on Schons web site The cue is $425 with tax, is this a fair price? any imfo would a great help. Wallace

would be a fair price without a doubt.

If it was me I'd get a photo of it and send it to Evan Clarke at schon and have him verify that it was one of their cues.

My guess from your description is its a 1000-1200 new cue, probably sell used for 700-900

Wallace, IMHO, it is a great price. Easily $1000 retail cue (probably a little more)...the second Schon shaft would be around $140-175 retail. As long as it is straight and not in need of a refinish or some sort of repair, I don't see how you could lose.

Also, check out the Schon cues at www.palmercollector.com. They are older ones, but you never know...it may be there.

Make sure the cue is straight and make sure it doesn't have any traces of cracks or repairs. But I don't think you can go wrong for that price! Heck, if you barter you might even get them to knock it down a litte. Or throw in a case or something. Please post pics when you get the cue. Sounds really nice!

No, it's not a fair price. You are stealing it for that price. Good find.

Sounds like a nice cue If it is a Ltd. it will have Schon Ltd. on the butt!
Good luck on the great deal! Ron

It's a steal !!!!!!Grab it A.S.A.P., then do all the investigating you want. Send to Ryan at Rat Cues or Scottt at Proficiant, and for under 200 dollars , you'll have a nice shooter. Jim

Terrible deal. Just give me the name and number of the pawn shop and I will straighten them out.:bash:
It is harder and harder to find good deals at pawn shops these days, but it looks like you found one.

Depending on how old the cue is, there may be no way to identify what model it is. I have a 1993 Schon LTD, and while Evan was able to verify the year it was made, he said that they didn't bother using name or number schemes back then. They only started using numbers when the internet made authenticating cues of more importance. As far as the price goes, ANY Schon LTD.. especially one with 2 shafts.. is worth $425 if it's in decent shape.

I've actually gotten lucky lately at pawn shops when it comes to pool cues. I picked up a McDermott Navigator II for $100 at one shop, then two weeks later i picked up a 1996 Predator 314-2 (i think) for $60 with a Joe porper 2x4 case. I talked them into the case for free since it was damaged, the foam insert in the cap was shredded. Though I guess they didnt know you could fix it for cost of shipping.

That got me from 2 to 4 cues in my collection now! At that price, it would be a good buy IMO. Though it isnt always the easiest to see how straight a cue is at a pawn shop. Can't always get a good roll off of a glass jewelry case and I just hate to think of using the floor.

any one else?
Yes, I know where you live and I will be up there is weekend...so I will be hitting the pawn shops :)....the lowest retail I have ever seen on a LTD is $950.00, this one sounds like a $1250 +. If it's all there it is a great deal.
Hope it's still there when you go back.........if not, you may see it posted here next week.
Good Luck,
Dom

The Schon that was stolen from me a couple weks ago, I bought in a Pawn shop in Tacoma, with another cue, and case for $200. .I sold the Schon for $600. and 5 yrs. later I get it back in a trade and it gets stolen . What a Deal. Jim

Some of my pawn shop purchases over the last 15 years include:
Hunter Classic 6 pointer - $130
Plain jane Schick with 2 shafts (melamine ferrules) and a 1X2 George case with "Schick" embossed on it - $98
Titlist Professional with 2 shafts - $15
Joss 6 pointer with inlays - $50
McDermott D-3 and older Adams 4 point Cicero Murphy - both for $75
Schon 6 pointer with plenty of ivory inlay work = $225
Jensen plain jane - $20
Toeboy 4 point with veneers and 2X4 George case - $115
Roger Allen sneaky (virtually brand new) $40

I rarely get a cue without a case, and normally, when you see an instroke, George case, etc.; get ready because they will normally have a decent cue in them. I travel quite a bit in my job and probably pick up 3-4 decent deals a year. They generally make great trading stock.

ltd is not on the butt, doe's that matter?

It makes a difference in that the cue is NOT a LTD version. With the price you mentioned and two shafts, I think it would still be a good buy. But, without being able to see the cue or know how straight and clean it is, you'll have to judge for yourself. Most Schon cues with that much ivory in them are well up in whatever line (SP, STL, CX, etc.) they're in.
