Schon Cue Lovers

I am just curious...I have 4 friends who love their Schon cues. Two of them love their Schon with the stock shaft. Two love their Schon with a Predator 314 shaft....I am just wondering. How many of you Schon cue users use the stock shaft and how many use the 314???
I just won a Schon STL-4 at almost half price. It will arrive at the end of this week. My friends are telling me 2 different stories...Two say to use only the stock shaft and two say order a 314 for it....
I know it is a matter of own personal taste, but I would just like to know what long time Schon users like the best...
How about letting me know which you prefer....

Split decision on Shafts/Schon Cues

I have 2 Limited Edition Schon Cues, and i have been using a Tiger Shaft on them lately. Although i am comfortable with the Tiger Shafts on there, the feel is different than with the stock shafts.

My primary cue is about 10 years old now, and i occasionally use the original shafts.

I have been using the Tiger Shaft when playing with Centennial Balls on any sized table, and the stock shaft when shooting with anything lighter on bar box tables.

Don't ask me why i go to such extremes, but at the moment it is working for me without many faults, and less hesitation.

I've played with a Schon with stock shafts for 15 years.

The only thing I advise is if you use the stock shafts, change the tip immediately.

Great shafts, but OMG, those factory tips!

No need to replace the shaft on a schon, unless you are a beginner and need to get easy cb action without a good stroke. The schon shaft is probably one of the best you can buy. Perfect control and ideal flex. This is the kind of shaft that the greats played with. Why replace?

well ive got my stock schon shafts, a 31 inch schon shaft, an 0b1 and a z2. The ob1 spins the ball better, but i have to say if i was playing for money or a tourney id use the stock shafts, they are very consistant, little deflection and just feel right

I have been using a 314 on my Schon for about 8 yrs. When I heard they were changing to 314-2 I picked up a few more. I now have 8 an believe for me that is the best combo. I get the smaller taper with the playability of a shaft over 13 mm.

I have a Schon with 2 shafts, and they play very similar to each other, both play very well in the grand totum pole scheme of things.

I bought a RUNDE shaft from a fellow AZ'er awhile back, and let me tell you there is NO COMPARISON. I've shot with predators, etc.. and this shaft blows them all out of the water. It's far more rigid then the schon shafts, and still provides GREAT action. Part of the reason why as soon as I get over this little financial hurdle I'll be on a quest to buy a Runde cue.

I have a Schon with 2 stock shafts. One I love the way it hits and feels. One I will not touch unless I have no other choice, it's too stiff for me.

I just recently switched to an OB-1 shaft on it in November and love the way it hits as well on the Schon. For a while I went back & forth between the OB & "good" Schon shaft, but found that I liked the extra inch on the OB shaft.

I tried both. I bought a 314 when I got the cue. I traded the 314 with another person to get another schon shaft. Although the schon has more deflection, the shaft is a better match in my opinion. Schon shaft all the way.

I use a 314 shaft on mine. Just my preference. But why on earth do you give two cents on what anybody else has? For all you know, 90 percent could be using shaft "X" and missing everything. The other 10 percent might never miss with shaft "Z". Don't worry so much about following the crowd, go with what works best for you.

Do you really think there are nine times as many Tiger X shafts sold as Predator Z shafts?

:D :D :D

Well, I suck at pool, but...

I have 2 schon shafts that seem to play the same- at least I can't tell them apart. And I just got a 314-2 for the hell of it recently. It does play/feel a bit different than the schons but the difference is not huge in my opinion. Basically, the 314-2 feels a little lighter and I have more confidence shooting long shots with english. Bank shots feel a bit different. The schon shafts feel a bit more "solid" (for lack of a better word). Both are of good quality and I can use either one. I some how was expecting it would take me a long time to adjust to a predator, but it didn't. Put it on and played the same (same level of horrible).

Incidently, I had to send back the 314-2 after I got it because of a scratch in the ferrule and they fixed it, no problem.

You may as well try both, because whatever aftermarket shaft you buy, you can resell here in a snap.

A lot of pros use Schon, some with 314 and some with original shafts. I had a 314 with mine but eventually sold it and now play with the original shaft, although I did send it to Evan Clarke to have is shaved down to 12.75.

IMO you should try a 314 and see which you like the best. It's a matter of personal preference.
