Looks pretty beat up to me. Are you into restoration projects? If not, I'd stay clear.

If you really like the cue then yes it's worth fixing. Even if you end up spending more than it's worth. It doesn't matter if it's what you want.

To me, it looks fairly easily repairable, unless it has hidden issues. It is a Runde era Schon with sharp points and inlays. The shafts appear to have micarta ferrules, but both may have to be replaced, unless the one with the warp is the one with the broken ferrule. Scott Sherbine would be able to work wonders with this cue at a reasonable cost. Evan Clark at Schon could make you think it was a brand new cue, but it would cost more. Depending on what it finally sells for determines whether or not I would personally buy it, but I would take it in a heartbeat for the present price. That is just my opinion. It and $5 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Not unless my eyes are fooling me. To me, it looks like the crack extends from the lowest silver ring down to the butt cap, which would be an easy fix. I can't tell for sure about the scratch to the left of it, but if it just a scratch, then no, it would not bother me. If it extends above the ring into the butt sleeve where the inlays are located, then I would be bothered, but from here, it doesn't look like it. What I would truly want to do would be see more photos, if the seller would provide them.

???????????

Why not put a few bucks with that an buy one that needs nothing. Restoration is aways an unknown until its done an the end results
are expensive. What your looking at is one shaft that maybe straight an a butt that was abused by some moron. This deal is iffy at best!!!!!!!!!

I'll bow to your better judgment. If not for the split, I think the rest would be easily and relatively cheap with Scott S., but the split would stop me, if for no other reason, I don't know what the cost would be.

Kevin

Unique cue for sure. Worth at least $1000.00 all fixed up.

Whether it could be all fixed up or not is not for me to say. It does not look that bad. New ferrule, a refinish, even a new buttcap. How much would all that cost??

Heck, man...as a pool player, you have to gamble from time to time. That split ring SHOULD be about a 1/2" of ebony that was put onto a tenon above the butt cap. You figure in the refinish that the repairer removes the butt cap and takes the wood down to the tenon up to the ring and replaces it. Another hidden issue might be if the split continues into the tenon, but I think it is probably only the ring.

This cue has the features of an R cue with an R-12 forearm and a custom butt. Maybe as an R custom it would be worth $1000 or more. The points are the original milled style from an older forearm, and the inlays look like panto. The joint collars are the old phenolic linen and the ferrules look like micarta to me. It's probably a late 1980's cue.

I would say there is at least $250 going into this cue to get it in nice shape. The seller probably can't even tell you if the handle of the cue is straight. At $500 - $600 it might be a good pick up but it's still a crap shoot. I've seen far worse than this come out looking like new.

Chris

At the currecnt price of $425 your looking at another $125 to fix the crack in the butt and have it refinished. Probably a safe bet to say your going to need a shaft made for the cue which depending on who you have make it will run from $100 to $150 for matching ring work. Most pawn shops that say well the cue looks straight really have no idea. They don't know much about cues and how to inspect them. So I would expect both shafts to not be straight with the chance the butt is not either. I have a buddy who owns a pawn shop and I would bet they gave $100 max for this cue on a loan. If they had any idea what they were doing they would of had the cue repaired with their low cost in it already and put it up for sale. It's a nice looking cue but after all said and done your gonna have about $700 at the minimum in it. Unless you have a buddy who is a cue maker.

Looking at the case it's probably not but could be an old Palmer case. I had one almost identical to this one that I sold years ago for $100. It will say Palmer on the top of the case if it is and would be worth $100 no problem.

I think that is it in a nutshell. No way would I go over $600, and I would much prefer to be nearer the $500 price. You WILL have $700-850 minimum in the cue at those sales prices...it could be more if there are unseen issues with the cue.

Josh,

The case was made by O'Neil. They sometimes put other names on the cases like Mcdermott. They've made cases for a long time and they are very good cases.

if I'm not mistaken, that looks like an SP-22 with optional stitched rings. Definitely a big restoration project.
