I have personally owned over 50 different Schon cues and have always had one to play with.
I have a older one now that I play with from time to time Schon SP-33 when it is not for sale.
Great cues and a very good value for the money.

I have a couple very collectable 1 of 1 Schons that are amazing. sorry I dont have pics, one is alot of ivory and weighs 22oz.
I have bought and sold a pile of them years ago, personaly I never played very good with them, I just couldnt get adjusted to them, but thats just me(and i'm a weak player) and most people I have known over the years love them so thats a great testment to them.
Archer beat the world using them for years and player of the decade using Schon cues.

i love the look but the ss joint is something i don't think i could ever get used to

My main playing cue is an old R-12/15 that I've had over 20 years and it plays as well as any big name custom I've ever hit with. I've had several of them over the years and they all played very well.

A couple years ago, someone on here had a SL-9 (my favorite model), with great veneers that I regret not buying.
I see them selling at 1/2 retail or a tad less.
As far as what you like, they seem like a decent cue to pick up and play with for a while and turn it when you want something new.
Definately not a collectable or money maker, but few cues are nowadays.

I have 2, very user friendly in my opinion, I have tried the predator shaft but still go my to schon shafts, very easy to pick up and play with.
I've probably had 10 or more different schons , most were upper line models...I have a preference for the ebony nose schons ...they seem to play the best for me, I do find the the hit to be pretty consistant from all the ones I've tried. Here is my current playing Schon Unique 27 (one of one) .. I have not played with it since the Deano cue...but its my favorite and I'll still keep it. I am going to send it to Evan to have a Black leather lizzard wrap put on it.

Not to detract from the work Evan Clarke does (and he does awesome work) but the older R series cues from the 80's play better in my opinion and I think that may because of Bob Runde. But that's just my opinion.

Cues, like women and underwear choices, are very personal. I too have had many Schons over the years. I do find that they play similar with a few exceptions. I have an old Schon shaft from the Runde era that I will never part with. It is a full 12.5mm if you know what I mean and weighs an incredible 4.7oz. It plays really well and hits as solidly as any shaft I have ever owned over the last 35 years. Currently I do not have a Schon butt but I'm using a plainjane butt from another cuemaker that the shaft fits just fine. My problem is finding the perfect butt that offsets the weight of the shaft just perfectly.
Sorry for going off in a different direction, but I think Schons are a fine cue, but I would have it in my hand and hit with it before buying. They do not all hit the same.

Thanks for all the info!!! I've only hit with 3 Schons so far. A brand new one, one from the 90's and one from the late 80's (I think). The only difference I felt was the weight. I liked the newer one because it was 20 ounces. I was REALLY impressed with the shafts. What a true hit. I barely had to adjust for deflection or at least as much as I do with other cues.

I've owned more than a dozen Schon cues since i've been playing pool and other than one that was too heavy for me they all played great. I got into custom cues and I sold the Schon cues I owned and I wished i'd hung on to a couple of them. I like predator shafts and I can screw a predator on a Schon and i'm ready to play......atthecat said:

..mass produced cue.......Pechauer has a higher yearly production rate than Schon. I think Dale Perry might be getting close as well.
Don't label them as "production" because they make more cues than Tim Scruggs or Pete Tascarella. Evan makes a cue of the same quality as any of the custom makers on here. He's just able to get more cues to market because he's learned a few tricks, with 20+ years experience in CNC programming and building cues.
I'd label a Schon as every bit as custom as the "custom cue" you buy off the rack.
