Scoring devices

OK...does anyone know where I could purchase the scoring balls that are attached to the light boxes at most pool rooms? I'm not looking for beads on a string....but more the wiffle ball/metal rod contraptions...or something similar? Needs to be sturdy.

I have google'd and searched and been to a gazillion websites....and all I can find are the scoring beads usually used in billiards, or the wall-mounted straight-pool counters. I'm beginning to feel internet-challenged.

Help!

Melissa

sounds like something meullers would have. you might be able to do it yourself.

hay when are we going to see you in the tv rounds again

Not on Mueller's website. They have the beads on a string...but not what I am talking about. And I definitely know a few who could make them for me....but I'd rather purchase and support the industry :)

And hopefully sometime this year I'll make it back to the TV rounds. I'll do my best :)

Most of the time I have seen them made rather than bought.

A couple shelf brackets and a taunt wire with painted stryofoam balls, golf balls or any ball will work.

I will see if I can find something on the net already put together.

Info

I have made some for my club for a race to 9 scenerio with each of the balls colored to the coordinating object ball number.

I will post pictures later tonight for reference.

The Diamond guys made the ones that they use in Reno and other events. They used the plastic golf balls and a small metal rod I believe. You could PM Ric Jones here his handle is 2l82bgr8 (something like that) and he could give you the scoop on what they used.

I believe you put a steel ball in each plastic ball for weight to keep the numbers in the middle. Johnnyt

oops thought I was still in NPR and clicked on this thread thinking it was about cologne, nice clothes, alcohol, money, nice cars, chick magnets, handcuffs, etc...

I made mine from the golf wiffle balls purchased at "The Sports Authority" sporting goods store. I strung them together with wire but that was a bad idea. I should have used string as not to scare my shaft when I move my mark. They have different colors so you can designate every 5 game. God luck.

I went to a welding supply and picked up some brass rod. Those rods are about 3 feet long. I glued a wood ball in the center with 10 balls on each side. The brass looks good and the ends can easily be bent to fit/slide into the light chains which holds the brass rod in place.

Melissa, I'm working on a new type of score keeper. You might like it. I'll talk to you about it when I see you or PM me. Something different.

Solution

2 rods are preferable.

Go to any Craft Store, like Michaels, etc. Wooden balls are available there.

Go to Lowe's, Home Depot, or a lumberyard, and buy the wire. They will cut it to length for you. You can also get the 'stoppers' there to hold the wire in place once they are mounted.

(If they don't have red balls to indicate every fifth ball and score, just spray some red with spray paint.)

Usually in Pool rooms, 2 rods with 10 beads each is mounted on the light chains.
