Scott Frost and Tommy Kennedy WPBL

Been watching the dynamic between Scott and Tommy in today's Bonus Ball match, and it seems like Scott is incredibly mean, and sometimes a jerk, to Tommy. He barks instructions at him, is very condescending, and is just flat out rude.

In his defense, they are doing a great job as a team, but why the rudeness? Am I the only one picking up on this? He doesn't talk to Manny Chau like that.
 
Anyone who watched the match picked up on that, let Tommy do his thing unless he looks for the added help. Can't say "But you missed it anyway" where we can all here.

For the record I have no idea what Tom Brady or Lebron say in the huddle, it's prob worse than what Scott said to Tommy if I had to guess.

I see the same thing. Scott is being overbearing and does not help Tommy's game, He is a detriment to his own team. Won't have a team if this keeps up. He doesn't act the same with Manny because Manny would not take it. He is taking advantage of Tommy not being confrontational. Scott is the weak link in this team.
 
It's funny because Tommy is the best runout player on the team. Scott's the best one hole player, and Manny is best 3 cushion/kicker on the team.
And it's more of a runout game then it is strategy. Strategy comes when you flub the runout.

But yes, Scott a little out of line.
 
No one can say for sure whether Scott's management style is a detriment or not.

It's possible his style will make Tommy study the strategy and practice more.
 
I thought maybe I was the only one that thinks the same. Yesterday when he was broadcasting Scott said he is a great leader. He said that he doesn't tell Manny too much because of the language barrier and Manny has a different game. He said Kennedy asks for advice that is why he gives it; a little too much in my opinion. oh and btw; anyone that has to call himself a great leader probably doesn't have a clue what it takes to be one. Just my opinion after 30 + years of working for the army...
 
For the record, TK has asked to be coached. He learns a lot from Scott, even if Scott is overbearing sometimes.
 
Scott is a funny one, look a him :) he is a mean looking dude. He is passionate and wants to win. I believe that his one pocket skills are really going to help his team with this game.

He does have a softer side and I have seen it but he just comes across and mean. Maybe TK and Scott have an agreement that we don't know about. He is the cap of the team and if Le bron missed 2 shots back to back the coach will let him know that he expects more. Same thing here.

Coaching

I have known these guys and played them all, I think Scott is helping Tommy a little with showing him some of the moves he see's. Scott is the best mover and banker on this team.

Scott comes across a little overbearing , but that is the way he is. He is qualified to be the coach on any team. Tommy is a quieter type person and I don't think he is bothered by Scott, as a matter of fact, if this team is going to win they will follow Scott's advice.

I am sure if Tommy is more comfortable with a different shot, He will tell Scott. Tommy shoots extremely straight and he is a seasoned veteran. He has been playing longer than Scott or Manny. I think Scott and Manny commute back and forth from Phoenix and I am sure they have time to talk strategy, Where as Tommy lives in Florida.

This is a powerhouse team with a coach that knows how to win. Good luck and I am enjoying this new game.

Scott is actually a very nice guy in person. Met him twice and both times, away from crowds/cameras he was a great guy.

Its funny how some people who are, in person,fairly giant dickheads *cough certain mosconi cup member* have defenders rushing to excuse their well known typical behavior but scott has nobody. I guess watching a stream counts more than the real world.
 
I do know this much TK has played in oneof the golden times in pool. He was paying alongside and againts the likes of Rempe, Hall, Varner, Sigel to name a few. I believe he knows what he is doing. JMO

Because Manny would physically kick Scott's ass if he ever got on him like he does Kennedy.
 
I know a few facts about this subject that I'd like to share.

I know all three players on the Phoenix Fire team. I've known Tommy the longest (23 years). I've known Scott for about 12 years. I've only known Manny for about 8 months now, but we have had more than one occasion to sit and get to know each other personally.

Tommy is living with me in Phoenix and commuting to and from Vegas during this Bonus Ball season, so we have many opportunities to talk about Bonus Ball.

Tommy was extremely excited to be picked by Scott to play on his team because of Scott's one-pocket knowledge. Tommy is a very sharp pool player and he recognized early on how much good one-pocket strategy would help in Bonus Ball. And Scott can just glance at a table layout and instantly know the best shot to take. Therefore, Tommy asked Scott to coach him; so it's not something Scott has forced on him. (I don't believe Manny welcomes that same level of coaching.)

Scott and I had a discussion the other day on this subject and I can assure you that he is not trying to be mean or condescending toward Tommy, he is merely trying to keep him focused. And as for Tommy, he realizes that Scott's coaching is a real blessing because it frees him from having to make tough decisions, and then maybe doubting his own choices. All Tommy has to do is shoot the ball. And with that in mind, it's no wonder Scott gets upset when Tommy misses, after he (Scott) has taken so much pressure off of him.

So maybe we could all cut Scott Frost a little slack here? I mean, Tommy is like a son to me, but Scott is a good friend, and I, for one, really appreciate the job he is doing with the Fire.

No, Scott is treating Tommy with insufficient respect and it reflects poorly on their team and the WPBL. Scott can offer his input respectfully if he sets his mind to it.

Tommy looks lost. He looks like he doesn't know what to do and shoots the wrong shot. As a captain I can see why Scott is doing what he is doing. Look at JJ, he coaches his young team very well. Scott just has a much different approach.
 
Scott discussed this in the match he commented this weekend. I think it was NY vs PIT. Like others have said, TK wants Scott's input. Maybe his delivery doesn't come off as friendly, but it could just be the competitiveness of the match making him intense. Scott's a pretty cool guy though off the table.
 
I can tell you why Scott is a great coach. It's one pocket. In this game we spend every shot thinking about what we are leaving when we miss. Because of this, Scott's mind picks up what a shot will leave his opponent faster than someone who has not spent as much of his life playing this way. Don't forget the shot clock.

I agree that at times Scott comes across as a little harsh, almost like an instructor. If you listen to what he is saying about the shot selection, though, you almost always can see the great value of his choices.
 
I got a chance to watch this match, and after watching a previous match with TK and SF, I can see why Scott is giving extra help to TK. Yes, TK is a great 9-ball player, but this isn't 9-ball and TK was making some poor choices previously.

And I don't hear Scott being harsh towards Tommy; he used phrases like "shoot this, like we practiced." and encouraging phrasings "just like that." or when it didn't go quite as planned, "that's okay, that's alright" ... like any decent coach on any other team would say.

Now, I came to the match late, so maybe I missed something earlier, but I took the extra coaching from SF to be a) a sign of his competitive nature and b) an excellent example of how well he has learned this game.

His voice always sounds confrontational though, and that's just the way he talks.
