Just for kicks, i thought i'd open up a discussion about old school vs new school players. There many similarities and also differences. I think that one of the greatest matches anyone could imagine would be yesterdays best vs todays best. Scott Frost, still in his prime, is considered the best player in the world. If he took a trip in the pool time capsule, back to '75, and play the great Ronnie Allen a little 1hole

Scott's game resembles Ronnie more than any other player of today. With his imagination, fearlessness and shot making ability.

Who would win?

ronnie would get the cash, back then and today i think ronnie would give him a good run at a race to 10 or 12 but an ahead set youth wins. When ronnie gets ahead he is just too tough to overcome. can you create a poll for this also so we can see what the concensus thinks?

Actually modern day.......Ronnie needs a farily decent spot to have any chance at the game.

Back in the day.........I think it is a coin flip.

Whichever one wasn't getting staked.

Modern day? Well of course that is no contest.

In their "prime" however....come on now. Its Ronnie Allen you are talking about.

Now that I think about it.....the person that would really have the best answer would be B.I.

He is probably more familiar with both of their games past and present than anyone.

Ronnie Allen in his prime would win. But I think this discussion should be about Reyes and Allen, not Frost. I still would bet on Reyes over Frost in a race to 11 for big money.

Now Reyes vs Allen both in their primes would be awesome! It's really almost too close to call...I can't imagine either losing an even up match of one pocket. Neither man really played many even matches, they were both giving up weight to top players.

They would not mach up even - why?.

No one wanted to played either player even, they all needed a spot. When Ronnie was at his best he was giving Ed Kelly 9/8 and sometimes 8/7, and everyone else got at least 8/7 and often 9/7.

Reyes usually gave (and probably still does) Cliff Joyner 8/7.

That's why I said I can't imagine either player losing in an even match, but of course if they played then someone would have to lose. Both in their prime, I guess if I had to pick I'd bet on Allen but I think it would be really close.

I will let some of the guys who have seen both in their prime or actually played both of these guys stop in and speak the truth. Around 5 years or so ago I heard about Ronnie playing Scott, Scott was giving him something like 10-5 or whatever and Ronnie lost and then quit his backers mid set. In their prime it would be something to watch, Ronnie ran 8 and out, Scott runs 18 and out, I seen it with my own 2 eyes!

I've seen 18 n out also at pool sharks with my own 2 eyes. Scott don't F around.

Ronnie Allen could have played 1 handed to Scotts 2 and still won.

I don't recall stories surrounding Ronnie( and all kinds of hustles or dumps like ya hear about ( Wiseman,Frost and Cliff) In the old days they would have played only 1 time ,tried to gaf Ronnie or not pay, and Wiseman,Frost and Cliff would have ended up in the jersey River. Please post as ( Mr. Ronnie Allen vs Scott Frost) mark

Here's a story surrounding Ronnie:

He's bust, broke and desolate so a good friend of his helps him with some random expenses, etc. One day, Ronnie goes to this friend and is nearly in tears because he has a tooth ache that's so bad, it's making his head explode. So, Ronnie begs this friend for some cash so he can go to the dentist (which he gets). Something didn't feel right about the situation, so this friend drives out to the local track to find Ronnie spending the cash he received betting on races.

I'm not sure if this story was told to me in confidence or not, which is the ONLY reason I'm not saying who the friend was-- but rest assured... Ronnie has stories surrounding him.

P.S.

Just so I'm not like Lou and drop anonymous references, here's a clue of where that story came from:

Don't get me wrong, Ronnie is a beast in his own right and the greatest of his time, but even in his prime I don't think he beats Scott even. Tournament Scott, and action Scott are two different animals. When Scott is in the "18 and out" mindset while gambling you may as well quit, because I don't think anyone can beat him....even in their prime. I would like to see Efren and Scott play again when they are both playing well, but Scott has proven he wins.

In all fairness tho...18 & out on todays equipment with 860 simonis is more doable than the older stuff with the indoor/outdoor carpet like cloth....Scott is still one of the baddest men on the planet in one pocket but it's kinda like apples & oranges.

Ronnie probally had all intention on taking care of his mouth but on the way to the dentist he thought...this is only enough money to get my touth pulled so let me turn this into enuf to get it pulled & a bridge:grin:..I know how good Ronnie can turn it on....He's one of the only ones that bit me for money & I let em..with a teary eyed..."don't make me beg...I'm a ex world champion" deal..Knowing full well I'd probally never see the money again...Ronnie might be able to give Cliff the 7 in the biting department...lol:grin:
